_______________________________________________

Daphne can't help but wonder what is Harry doing in Slytherin. In this case, it seems that the sorting hat is just wrong. The ambition which is a trait that is shared by all Slytherins to some degree or another is completely missing from Harry.

While ambition is not the only trait that can get someone sorted in Slytherin but it is the most defining one. All the Slytherins Daphne has dealt with including herself have ambitions, something they want, some of them are rather straightforward like power, wealth, influence, etc. Others have more personal ones but it is always there. All of them have it, all except one, Harry Potter.

Even after being with Harry for almost their entire school year, Daphne has not seen him ever doing anything or striving to achieve something. He just seems to easily glide through the classes and lectures, he doesn't even care about showing his magical skills that are way beyond his age.

Harry for the most part seems detached from the rest of the school, he only acts when something happens that opposes his sense of justice and his moral code. But the rest of the time he mostly spends his time with Hagrid or his owl.

Harry just does his own thing, and that is something Daphne can never understand. Being able to completely disregard the world around you to such an extent is hard for her to even think about.

Daphne from a young age is taught to look for advantages, to constantly find ways to increase her power and influence, to make allies with useful people, etc. So Harry's whole doing the right thing just because it the right thing do approach completely messed with her head.

She knows how to deal with people who try to take full advantage of others to achieve their own goals but when faced with Harry she has no clue how to deal with him.

Daphne spends months looking for something she can give to Harry in exchange for his help to cure her sister but then he proceeds to tear her oath to pieces and promises to help her sister anyway without asking for anything.

All the werewolf students in school respect and support Harry for what he has done for them but he reacts to it is like no big deal. All of Slytherin is under his command and he flat out ignores this because he finds it annoying to deal with the Slytherin politics.

Somehow it feels like Harry is living in a completely different world from the rest of them. Sometimes Harry's actions don't make any sense at all but rather than thinking that he is just another eccentric, Daphne believes that it is something far deeper than that.

Harry is working towards something but it is hard to figure it out when she can't see the whole picture. Or Daphne is maybe just overthinking this.

Dumbledore doesn't make any sense most of the time, all of his odd behaviour makes some people think that he has gone senile. Then there is the Dark Lord, someone who makes people refer to him as Lord Voldemort is bound to have some screws loose in his head. Maybe being soo skilful and gifted with magic causes people to develop strange and weird tendencies.

Harry certainly seems to follow along this path. He talks to his owl for Merlin's sake. While magical owls are far more intelligent than regular animals but they are not developed enough to have deep and long conversations that Harry seems to have with Hedwig.

Just thinking about that white-feathered menace causes Daphne to rage. While Harry is humble to a nauseating degree the same can't be said for his bloody owl. Hedwig is always so smug and looks down on everyone that's not Harry, the snowy owl seems to take particular pleasure in looking down on Daphne. The useless bird even tries to make Daphne look bad in front of Harry.

Of course, Harry never notices that because the owl is smart enough to actually act all innocent in front of him. Before realising this Daphne thought Hedwig was just a dumb bird that Harry is just strongly attached to, but she has to admit that this owl is uselessly intelligent for no apparent reason.

Even Harry's owl is unusual and unique, like everything else about him. Why can't anything about Potter ever be simple and normal?

Daphne can't help but sigh seeing Harry just sleeping in front of her. He doesn't even realise how many complications he causes for Daphne just with his mere presence. Just a year into knowing the green-eyed boy, he has challenged almost all of her beliefs and understandings of the world.
