Chapter 46: A Petty Means Of Retribution

Back Country Dirt Road, Unknown City, Unknown State....(2001)

The eerie bright orange glow of a freshly lit cigarette had been all that the rather intense-looking and silent driver had in the way as a means of an active thing to command his attention. His dulled blue eyes had been fixated on the hard water battered faded yellow trailer at the very end of his sights. It was near dusk and the sun had long since disappeared from view as the icy chill filled the air about as cold as the heart of the poised man who had been patiently awaiting the inhabitants of the trailer. Heavy bags could be seen beneath his eyes and his nose being wrinkled in disgust had been part of the reason for the noticeably visible frown lines along his rugged-looking pale face. His long dirty blond locks were draped over his broad shoulders and beneath a dark cap as he slowly ran his fingers along the smooth silver barrel of the gun that rested across his right thigh. He wore blue jeans that evening, dirty blue jeans from when he had to do work in the yard. His shirt was dark brown with the sleeves cut off and his working boots were also dark in color.

He took another long slow drag from his cigarette as he allowed the smoke to escape his tightly pursed lips as he watched and waited for any sign that the people he'd been after had finally been home. The poised driver had been furious, as he waited amid the semi-darkness of his pickup truck. A result of injustice long overdue in being squared as he watched the yellow trailer amid white fumes of cigarette smoke.

A flash of memory filled his weary mind as he sat there still waiting.

A small girl with baby blue eyes and dirty blonde hair not so unlike his own had been before him. Her smile was warm and sweet each time he'd seen it no matter how his day had gone in the working field, the smile had always seemed to bring him back to life whenever he got home.

He recalled all too well the last time he'd seen those beautiful blue eyes open and he would have given anything to make it so again.

The image of a small lifeless body cradled in his arms as he rushed toward the nearest hospital on it had been all he could see as he burst through the doors begging and pleading the for assistance of any kind only to hear that there was nothing they could do.

The sorrowful man believed that his heart had stopped beating the moment the little girl didn't draw breath and as a result, he had buried it the day he buried her. His beautiful baby girl would never again greet him when he came home from work with a warm smile and her baby blue eyes.

The silent driver's fury only intensified as he noticed movement by the trailer indicating that he had almost missed the occupants rushing to get inside. He slid out of the pickup truck and slowly approached the yellow trailer. He caught a glimpse of a woman, blonde with green eyes and wearing less-than-ideal clothing with the notion of being something of a flower child and a man half naked with his feet bare.

The two were dancing about the front room of the trailer and getting up to mischief when the man found his way in through the back door on the other side. The idiots had forgotten to lock it up when they rushed inside. The angry driver had not cared about much at the moment aside from the burning need for vengeance that propelled each of his footsteps forward into the trailer.

It was a filthy place, with articles of clothing and trash all about the floor and furniture. The angry driver resisted the urge to vomit as he moved about with his gun pointed outwards. He had not expected to find a young man thin in appearance and pale as if he'd been on the verge of death lying on the sofa with his eyes rolled into the back of his head and froth coming from his mouth. The angry driver cared nothing for the drug-addled fool as he took a moment to cover the barrel of his gun with one of the sloppily covered pillows and pulled the trigger firing a shot into the comatose young man.

The driver proceeded to move toward the back room where he could hear muffled voices getting louder and louder as he moved through the hall. The angry driver kicked open what appeared to have been a bedroom door and immediately aimed his gun and pulled the trigger this time not bothering to cover it as a haze of bullets filled the chest of an unsuspecting half-naked man while the woman screamed as blood splattered all over her and the bed.

The screams continued as the angry driver saw his way to beating the already dead man's corpse with the end of his gun once he'd run out of bullets. It was a brutal and gruesome sight as the driver hacked the corpse over and over with the base of the gun denting the facial bones and eye socket of the half-naked man still enraged as he turned his attention to the crying blonde woman huddled with a bed sheet pulled up to her chest along the far wall. She opted to make a break for it, only to be slammed onto the bed as the angry driver wrapped his large hands around her throat squeezing it for all he was worth as she screamed and struggled against him in a bid to stay alive.

The angry driver was not to be denied as he continued to strangle the blonde embittered and enraged all the more the longer she struggled and he had been forced to look into her eyes. It was a fitting death for the bitch he'd been formerly married to, especially when it was what she had done to their daughter in her drug-induced stupor to not only silence her crying but to get back at him for wanting her out of their lives due to her constant drug use. Slowly, she suffocated and he delighted in watching the worthless life drain from her green eyes as he had no doubt she enjoyed doing the same to his only child, his little innocent girl.

The dead girl whose eyes had been blue like his own.

The enraged driver pushed the body of his ex-wife along the bloodied bed where she'd come from naked screaming with a sheet over her, he had seen everything she had to offer and then some beforehand and turned his attention to the numerous bottles of booze left over as he lit another cigarette and proceeded to splash it all over the trailer before he took a deep drag from his cigarette, then tossed it along the bottles and spilled liquor.

The place went up in smoke just as he pulled away from where he'd parked his truck and he had not looked back at the blaze once he hit the open highway. He didn't care where he ended up or if this would have been his final ride, all he knew was that his little girl was gone and so was the bitch that had taken her away.
