Three days had drifted by like a slow-moving river, each hour heavier than the last as I lay in the bed of the sterile hospital room. The pale light filtering through the curtains painted a somber scene, casting shadows that danced mournfully across the walls. I could feel the weight of worry pressing down on me, a heavy blanket suffocating my senses.
