Chapter 17

The southern wall was as silent as a graveyard and the smell of iron was heavy in the air. It was obvious upon their arrival that the wall had been suffering back to back slaughters of their men. Most of the men were still holding firm to their honor and pride to fight for the protection of the safety zone but that did not stop the southern wall from having a person every so often who would break down from how disastrous their situation was beginning to feel for them. Their eyes all glanced in the direction of Prince Clyde as the sudden look of grasping out at hope was quickly painted onto those once scared faces.

"PRINCE CLYDE!!!" They all shouted out as they thrust their weapons up into the air when they saw him.

Vanishing in the blink of an eye, Prince Clyde's figure reappeared on top of the wall as he glared down at the beasts that were lurking along the wall under the coverage of the plant life and the ruins of what was left of the city outside the safety zone's wall. It felt as though they were returning the glare as they growled and howled out at the sight of him. Sliding his gaze to the side he grabbed a sword out of the hand of a guard standing beside him. Startled the man did not know how to react but kept his mouth shut as Prince Clyde raised the sword up.

Holding firmly to the sword he pulled it back before sending it flying through the air. The speed of the sword was so fast that it sent whistling sounds as it flew. Blood splattered everywhere as the sword pierced straight through the body of a hell hound. The hilt was so wide that it could not go all the way forcing the corpse of the hell hound to become hung up on the tree trunk it had been standing in front of. Fierce howls could be heard from the other hounds as they pulled themselves back further into the ruins of the city so that they could no longer be seen by the prince.

"PRINCE CLYDE!!!" They all shouted out as they thrust their weapons up into the air repeatedly while cheering his name at the display they'd just seen. What morale had been lost had become risen slightly back up as the prince stood with them.

"Show off. Tsk." Gunner scoffed with a slight chuckle as he watched the prince put on his display for the men. For him who had seen the many other sides of the prince he knew it was all for show to bring the men's morale back up for the sake of the wall. If they continued to panic before aid could arrive it would only put the wall at further risk.

"Are you ready to head back to where we're staying while here and rest?" Prince Clyde asked as he walked back up to Gunner and smiled sweetly. The look on his face almost seemed as though he was waiting to be praised for what he'd done and only made Gunner laugh more.

Covering his mouth with his hand in an attempt to keep himself from laughing out loud in front of the prince he forced a smile to his face. The way the prince did things some times made him feel as though he was cute when trying to put on a front for others. It was clear to him that the prince was really just wanting others to think highly of him. If he knew that others knew he really wasn't as strong willed as he tried to make others believe the look on his face would probably become one that was priceless. Placing his hand on Prince Clyde's back he leaned in close to Clyde's ear.

"Is master going to leash me if I don't?" Gunner whispered his question softly as his hot breath escaped his muzzle to tickle against Clyde's ear.

The sudden question that Gunner gave him caused the prince's heart to throb slightly as he was not in the mood for games. Turning to walk away for a moment he left Gunner puzzled til he returned back with a stern look on his face. Reaching his hand out he snapped a leash to the collar on Gunner's neck and pulled on it causing their faces to become inches apart. Gazing into each other's eyes they both tried to understand what one another was thinking. Understanding what Gunner was thinking was one thing that Prince Clyde could never do, but for Gunner the look in the prince's eyes was clear as day to him that the prince was holding himself back from something that was causing his heart to ache. That pain was obvious behind that sharp gaze that wanted to eat him alive, body and soul.

"Uh.. Are you sure you wanna do that right here? Aren't you worried about them?" Gunner motioned for all the guards and people that were watching the Demon Prince Clyde hold Gunner by a leash. They were attracting a lot of attention that he knew the prince usually hated the most. He was never one to willingly display affections in front of others and yet Gunner's question had pushed him to the point of dragging him along with a leash in front of everyone. It was not a first time but usually Gunner had to fight him in order to display such an action for his sake.

Without responding and ignoring all the looks and whispers Prince Clyde began to lead Gunner through the streets of the safety zone. Every where they went eyes fell on them and yet the prince never faltered in his action. He did not care at the time who saw him hauling Gunner around by the lead he'd latched to his collar. Sounds of the man's heavy breathing through the muzzle could be heard as he hauled him around by the lead and it only made him desire to return more quickly to the room they would be staying in with Gunner.
