HOTD: What A Pain

Ever wonder what comes after death? Well, apparently, people with natural, multi colored hair. Jiggle physics are on overload and logic is out of the window. I just hope that there aren't any magical beings that just go on war paths for the fun of it, because, this world looks like straight out of an anime and it slightly disturbs me. ___ I don't own anything.

Chapter Six

"So they are blind?"

Kohta asked as the three of us looked at the horde of zombies that were still trying to locate the one who made that sound, not aware that no one was there at all.

"Yeah, I threw a box cutter in that direction and seemed to get their attention without many problems."

I shrugged.

Really, there was no explanation for this, but that didn't matter much right now, for now, we needed to survive.

"Let's go on the catwalk, I need to reach the second floor."

With one last glance at the horde, I turned around and headed toward the door that would lead to the outside stairs.

"And who made you the leader?"

Takagi asked, though thankfully, she managed to keep her voice down.

"You have a better idea? I have a few more people to look for and then we can leave the school for good."

I retorted as I opened the door and let the two pass through.

Making sure that none of the zombies were following us, I closed the door silently and turned around to walk down the stairs.

"Considering the third floor was that bad, it's safe to assume that the lower floors are even worse, we may have to wait it out here for a little bit to let "them" disperse a little more."

I rose an eyebrow at the pink-haired girl. "Them"? What? Was the word zombie patented?

"I don't have that much time. I need the zombies cleared out of the second floor right now."

I muttered, sending a glance at the stairs leading to the fourth floor.

"Oh, and what?! Are you going to shoot any dead you see on the second floor by you're self?!"

I looked at the angry face of the midget and blinked. Taking a deep breath I resisted the urge to push her off the railing right now.

She was compromising our position and attracting more undead just by being here. A little amount of security and she already doesn't need to feel the need to hold back her temper.

"Kohta, keep a lookout, I'll handle the horde on the lower floors."

I ignored her. It was the best thing I could have done in the situation. I didn't want to put a bullet in her head, not in front of Kohta.

Totally would have though.

"Don't ignore me!"

I ignored her.

"Are you sure, Ren? It's not really safe inside right now."

You don't say.

I just nodded and turned to the stairs as I started walking up, making sure to check every time I turned a corner.

I needed silence right now, and being near that girl didn't help me with that.

Finally reaching the fourth-floor catwalks, I looked around to see three zombies, teachers, walking towards the stairs I came from.

So, her screaming did attract attention.

Clamping down on my annoyance, I pulled the trigger, putting a nail each in three heads.

Walking forward carefully, I flipped the first body over, clicking my tongue at the ripped-off arm.

Looking back at the other two, I ditched the first one that seemed like its thigh was ripped out, and walked to the last one.

Thankfully, this dumbass seemed to have managed to get away, judging by the bite on his bicep.

Grabbing the shoulder of the shirt the dead man was wearing, I tipped it off and observed the bite more closely.

The time it took to turn was still unknown, but the bite mark was greener than the surrounding tissue. The place where whatever this thing was most likely entered.

Looking further down the arm, I rose an eyebrow at the scratches, most likely nails.

They did not have the same darker green tissue as the bite mark had, so the nails are not the way they transferred the disease.

It was either just the death or the saliva.

Keeping a mental note of that, I stood up and jogged toward the doors that would lead me to the lockers.

Slowly opening the door, I peeked inside the school.

The coast was clear. Going inside, I checked my back and ignored the few standing dead people that were groaning and standing there.

They didn't disturb me, for now, so I would not shoot them dead, for now.

Moving toward one of the lockers, I kept surveying my surroundings, checking my six more often than "He" would have but in my defense, this situation garnered more caution than a gunfight.

At least you knew where the shots were coming from most of the time.

Finally reaching the lockers where the students kept their extra books, I made sure that no zombies would try to grab me for the hundredth time and placed a hand on its roof. Using a bit of force to tilt it slightly, I used my left hand to push the whole thing to the ground.

The noise produced was loud.

No, not loud, it was loud as fuck.

I took some distance from it, sticking to the other side of the room and almost hugging the wall as the zombies walked toward the source of the sound.

I glanced at the stairs and noticed some of them walking up, prooving that stairs were just a minor inconvenience to the dead and it didn't take long for me to follow the wall, trying to get to outside again.

The phone in my heart pocket rang.

I took a deep breath, cursing my fate, fate, and the universe like a sailor in my mind, and quickly shove a hand in my jacket, taking out the phone and decline the call.

Without looking back, I run across the distance between me and the doors, avoiding any undead that try to grab me and get outside as soon as I could.

Closing and locking the door behind me, I look at my phone, wanting to know who the hell was trying to kill me.

Rika.

I called her and she answered even before the first ring finished.

"Sorry, almost died, what's up?"

{What?!}
