1 The World Rebooted and the Horror Game Began

"Ugh, my head hurts." Maron opened his eyes and rubbed his throbbing head.

He then got out of bed and poured himself a cup of warm water to drink.

When his mind was completely clear, Maron remembered that he had drunk too much yesterday and had slept until now.

Just as he was about to wash up, a clear, yet unpleasant voice sounded.

[The world reboot is complete; Global Thriller version 1.0 has loaded!]

[The world's Yin and Yang have overlapped; therefore, ghosts will descend on Earth. The horror feast is about to begin!]

[All players only need to do one thing, and that is to survive!]

The voice was accompanied by a chilly wind.

Maron shivered, and his back broke out in cold sweat.

He couldn't believe what he had heard.

The world had rebooted and Yin and Yang had overlapped? And worst of all, ghosts would come to the human world!

"Is this some kind of prank?!" Maron felt relieved all of a sudden. After all, pranks were common and it was very likely that his friends were behind this.

Maron calmed down a little when he thought of this.

How could there be ghosts in the world?

He looked around and found nothing unusual. Everything around him was very calm.

"Forget it, I'll just ask them later."

He put aside the doubts in his heart and walked to the sink and picked up the toothpaste and toothbrush on it.

Just as he was about to squeeze the tube, something terrible took place.

There was a window on the left side of the sink and through it Maron saw a black curtain in the distance that looked like a swarm of locusts. It was coming from afar and was rapidly sweeping toward him.

"F*ck, no way!" Maron said in surprise. He quickly put down the toothpaste and toothbrush in his hand, ran into the room, and took out a telescope.

Then, he returned to the sink and picked up the telescope to look at the approaching darkness.

It was rapidly approaching him.

"That unpleasant voice just now is real!" Maron's hair stood on end. He saw that this was not a plague of locusts.

In the black curtain, other than the darkness, there was nothing else.

That sound was not a prank, but was actually real!

The world was about to be flooded with ghosts!

Before Maron could react, the black curtain arrived as promised. In just a moment, it had covered everything in the place.

The black curtain began to attack Maron with a bone-chilling feeling.

The chill woke Maron up in an instant and at the same time, his eyebrows and hair were covered in a layer of white frost.

Maron hissed as hi vision darkened.

"No, it's too cold!" In the darkness, Maron fumbled as he tried to remember what had happened.

After a few minutes, he finally returned to the bedroom and found a flashlight on the bedside table in the bedroom.

He didn't know whether the flashlight had just not been charged for a long time or had been damaged, because when he switched it on, it only emitted a faint light.

With the help of the flashlight, Maron quickly rummaged through his wardrobe.

He remembered that the last time he went skiing, he had bought a very expensive down jacket.

"I've finally found it!" Maron immediately put it on.

Instantly, the chill felt only half as strong as it was.

Then, he found a pair of hiking shoes and cotton pants to keep him even warmer.

"It's warmer." His body was already warm, but he thought of another horrible problem; that strange voice.

The world had been rebooted. The only thing he could do was to survive.

The fear that this voice brought to him was not physical, but spiritual as well.

He was just a regular person. How could he deal with ghosts?

There was no way to start. This became a horrible problem.

"No, I can't just sit here and wait for death." Maron rummaged through the bedroom again.

Suddenly, his phone rang, but the flashlight went out.

On the table beside the bed, the phone emitted a faint red light.

Maron was stunned, and then he walked toward the light and picked up the phone and saw that a countdown was on.

There were ten seconds left.

Seeing this, Maron tried his best to calm himself down.

This was a thriller game; all he could do was to ensure his survival.

The ten-second countdown had ended.

The words on the phone screen slowly disappeared, and another row of words gradually appeared.

[The initial thriller mission has been released!]

[Mission requirement: Find the source of the knocking in ten minutes, before midnight strikes.]

[Mission reward: One year of lifespan.]

[Mission failure: The source of the knocking will come to you.]

[Players can choose to give up, but giving up means giving up the chance to live.]

A line of scarlet words appeared and disappeared again.

Finally, a time appeared, 15:44.

Other than the time passing by, whatever was on his phone screen did not change anymore.

Maron tightened his clothes.

Knock, knock, knock!

The sudden knocking on the door gave Maron a fright.

He subconsciously took a few steps back until he reached the wall before he stopped.

The knocking continued. Just as Maron was at a loss, he seemed to see a line of words in front of him.

"What is this?"

To be more precise, the words seemed to be printed on his eyes.

[Five minutes later, you died because you didn't carry out the mission.]

Maron's eyelids twitched.

What was this? Was it predicting the future?

'How can my eyes have such a function.? It's really incredible!'

Thinking of this, Maron's courage suddenly increased a little.

[With the help of your eyes, one minute later, you turned on the flashlight on your phone and walked out. There is nothing outside the door.]

The notification in his eyes appeared again.

Maron followed the notification, turned on the flash of his phone, and walked out of the door.

Creak!

He gently pulled the door. The door shaft seemed to have rotted, making a strange sound.

When he walked out of the door, Maron used the light of his phone to shine on both sides of the corridor.

Sure enough, there was nothing.

[There is nothing outside the door. You have entered the room again. The knocking sound is heard again.]

Seeing the notification, Maron walked back and locked the door.

The knocking sounds were coming again.

Maron could not help but be puzzled at the matter.

He had found the source of the knocking sounds.

It was a ghost knocking on the door, but how could he see the ghost?

At this time, a new notification appeared in his eyes.

[You have realized this problem. Three minutes later, you found a kitchen knife and cut your palm. Fresh blood flowed out.]

Maron saw the notification and went to the kitchen to find a kitchen knife. He picked up his phone and looked at the time passing by.

When the time was up, he immediately cut his palm with the kitchen knife.

[Your eyes are tired from predicting the future. You need to rest so that you can use it later.]

Then, the notification disappeared. Maron suddenly blacked out.

His vision returned to normal, but the future vision disappeared.

The wound on his palm was still bleeding.

"What should I do next?"

Without the help of his eyes, Maron did not know what to do next.

The knocking on the door continued and became louder and louder, with a hint of urgency in the sound!

Maron's heart beat faster and faster, so much so that he could feel the frequency of his heartbeat.

Thump, thump, thump!

A minute later, it was beating at the same frequency as the knock on the door.

Then, the knock was gone...
