14 Chapter 14: Theresa and Otto

On the other side, at the headquarters of the Schicksal, in the sickroom.

The white-haired Loli lay on the hospital bed, accompanied by a man with golden long hair.

Theresa, with a face full of unwillingness and resentment, lay on the bed, staring lifelessly at the ceiling.

She couldn't understand why she lost and ended up severely injured.

It was just a simple capture mission; how did it turn into the awakening of a Herrscher?

Snowflakes drifted in through the window, landing on Theresa's face, making her feel a chill in her heart.

The wind today is really strong...

"Theresa, how do you feel now?" Otto asked while peeling an apple.

The reflective blade gently touched the surface of the apple, creating a crisp sound. Skillfully rotating the apple, Otto peeled off the skin, revealing the pure white flesh.

Otto carefully cut a piece of the apple and handed it to Theresa's mouth.

"Mmm..." Theresa opened her mouth, biting into the apple Otto offered. "Grandpa, I feel much better."

"After all, you are a Valkyrie; your physical resilience is stronger than an average person," Otto chuckled.

"That's true, but Grandpa, you didn't tell me that the target for the capture was a semi-awakened Herrscher!" Theresa suddenly remembered this and began to complain to Otto.

If she had known that the girl was the prototype of a Herrscher, why would she have gone to provoke her brother? Wasn't that a pure minefield dance?!

It's all Grandpa's fault for not explaining the mission clearly.

She was just playing with Kiana before, and without being informed about the mission, she even had a miserable meal. She almost stumbled there.

If Cecilia knew about this, she would definitely be laughed at.

If it spread to Theresa's loudest snitch, in a few days, all the Valkyries of the Schicksal would know that Theresa lost to a little girl!

She really didn't want this to happen!

"I already let you take Judah with you, Theresa. You should be aware of the potential dangers of this mission, right?" Otto was calm and threw the pot back.

"Alright, alright, I understand what I should understand. Grandpa, you can go now." Otto stood up with a smile. "You know, as the Archbishop of Schicksal, my work is still quite busy."

Theresa rolled her eyes. "Grandpa must be eager to play 'Kallen Fantasy,' right?"

Otto's smile stiffened for a moment, wondering why the white-haired Loli suddenly became so smart. "How could that be? Grandpa is, of course, going to handle work."

"Alright, alright, I won't disturb you, Theresa. Rest well and recover soon."

"Hmph, Grandpa, Cecilia said she's going to play 'Kallen Fantasy' again. She even created a new account just for it."

Otto's steps paused. "Haha, if Cecilia wants to play, let her play."

Although he said that, Otto secretly noted Cecilia's account.

Using the funds of the Schicksal, Otto had developed a game called "Kallen Fantasy." He was also the top-ranked player in this game until that woman appeared—Cecilia. After playing the game, she unexpectedly snatched away Otto's first place.

Could Otto endure this injustice? He had just learned the title technique, and he promptly banned Cecilia's account on the spot.

Since then, no one had taken away his first place.

No, he had to have Amber check and ban Cecilia's new account.

The first place in "Kallen Fantasy" would forever belong to Otto Apocalypse.

"Um, Grandpa." Just as Otto was considering how to ban Cecilia's new account, Theresa's voice brought him back.

"What's wrong, my dear granddaughter?" Otto turned around, smiling.

"Grandpa, that boy named Chase told me something. I'm a bit concerned." Theresa slowly spoke, met by Otto's interested expression.

"He told me that many children are imprisoned in the Babylon Laboratory. These children have excellent resistance to Honkai energy and are used for the study of artificial Stigmata..."

"Grandpa, can you tell me if this is true?"

"And the Valkyries, are the artificial Stigmata they use to protect human civilization against Honkai really built on the sacrifices of countless children?"

"... " Otto remained silent; he did not make any rebuttals. He just listened, with that inexplicable smile still on his face.

Theresa noticed this, and her gaze dimmed slightly. It was the emotion called "disappointment."

"Chase told me that these children live in cold cells, eat bread as hard as stones, face the cold eyes and indifference of the researchers. The researchers use needles to stab their arms, drag their bodies with their hands, and use devices to control their movements..."

"Chase told me that they are nothing more than guinea pigs for the researchers. They are guinea pigs that can be replaced with a new batch if they die. They are not even comparable to the microorganisms in the researchers' petri dishes."

"And those armors, weapons, are they all established through such cruel experiments?"

Otto still refused to answer Theresa's questions because everything she said was true.

"That's right, Theresa, everything you said is true," Otto finally nodded.

"... " Theresa's heart had already plummeted.

So, in order to resist the Honkai, Schicksal, personally forged the shackles of cause and effect, calling down the thunder of judgment upon its own head.

Because of the fight against Honkai, Schicksal actually gave birth to Honkai.

Isn't this a joke?

But this kind of joke is a fact.

Otto naturally saw Theresa's change in mood, and he continued:

"These children, I did let them leave their parents. But the contributions they made to resist the Honkai, Schicksal will remember."

"Grandpa, you go, I need to rest!" Theresa thanked him, and Otto didn't mind. He smiled, turned around, and slowly walked out of the sickroom.

When he reached the door, he looked meaningfully at Theresa and said, "Theresa, maybe you can't understand it now. But Grandpa hopes you will understand."

"This is a necessary sacrifice."

Theresa turned her head away, refusing to look at him, and did not respond.

After Otto left, Theresa looked out of the window and sighed silently.

A necessary sacrifice...?

Nonsense!
