Chapter 2: Red eyes, a silver sword, and the thrill!

Because of how fast all of it occurred, Bryce thought of the summoning as of a prank.

He didn't see any magic circle, and had the battle between the Demon Lord and the Duchess really happened, the whole process of summoning wouldn't have been that fast, Gengo was also with Bryce; were the two girls mentioned before benevolent enough to care about Bryce's best friend?

For a demon lord to be so nice, Bryce laughed at the thought. But deep inside, a part of him believed in the summoning, and his odd feeling seemed to thrill with the thought of being in another world.

Knowing, however, that his friend was worried about the unusual event, Bryce turned his eyes to him and stroked his head.

He parted his lips to jest a little to ease the situation. "Stuffing a random letter between my name and surname is also-"

The world shook, then Bryce stopped talking as both of them had been slightly pulled up, and they kept bobbing on the ground as the unknown process continued.

It was odd, too odd, and such a consistent phenomenon didn't seem natural, too, so Bryce braced himself for whatever was about to come — the rational part of him thought less of it as of a prank.

And then, it has come out. A humanoid existence, lanky, with a deformed face, as though someone had kneaded its cheeks and nose with brutal strength, its eyes barely peeked owing to bulging cheeks, and its long ears flapped, scratching the brown and gnarly shoulders.

The existence was nearly naked, a thick leather fur covered its pelvis, and its hand tightly clenched a long spear. Surprisingly, these two items were of high quality, not seeming like stuff made by that kind of a monster.

[Cave Troll Lv. 25 HP: 1600/1600 MP: -]

"Human?" it tilted its head, "Demon?" At the thought of demon spawn, the monster flinched and took a cautious step behind. But Bryce smelled more like a human, a quite tasty human, in fact, his handsome face caused the monster to salivate, his saliva mixing with liquid dangling off his nose, and Bryce's aura formed from years of training told that his muscles were tense and tough; the monster's favorite.

That aura was weak, however. Weak, as though Bryce was one of those weak villagers that needed the help of mercenaries to deal with trolls. And those villagers, mainly hunters, were the delicacy that the chef of trolls demanded at least once a month!

"You, no scared? Why?" the troll asked, still not daring to make a move because of the demonic scent, which only faintly exuded off Bryce. And because it was so weak, the troll wouldn't wait too long.

But it also had sensed that Bryce wasn't scared. Yes, the level gap between them was apparent, and people of this world and gamers from Bryce's home world would scream at him to not take a fight with the troll.

Bryce, with his hand still on Gengo's head, licked his lips and replied, "Why? I am not so sure myself."

It was a lie because Bryce knew he wasn't frightened of the monster because of that odd feeling within him thumping with excitement. It was so loud that Bryce had accepted his circumstances: he knew that he was in another world, that the monster before him had eaten humans and other existences, and that he was in a precarious situation.

Still, Bryce and Gengo were far from being safe. They were both level one, and more importantly, Bryce lacked his sword or any other weapon, and he hadn't checked his stats or status window yet. It was mainly his fault because he doubted the new world.

Nonetheless, crying over spilled milk wasn't his style, and he promptly lifted his hand to check his status. The system window appeared with just thought alone, and Bryce clicked on it a few times, maneuvering through with his gaming experience in mind.

He opened the skill list and saw a few listed neatly, but one particular skill quickly caught his attention.

[Call of a Bloodline Weapon.]

It was his innate skill, and he didn't need any mana to activate it: the skill activated even before Bryce clicked it, as though the system read his mind, but Bryce tapped the screen just to ensure he had used it.

Nothing happened, though. A minute later, stilling silence turned things awkward. A human, a dog, and a troll gawked at each other without making any move. Two, three, four, and five minutes passed, yet no weapon appeared in sight.

Bryce grew nervous.

At the same time, the troll's impatience finally reached its limit. It growled and raised its spear, the tip of the weapon glittered, then the monster thrust it forward.

"We are going for a walk, Gengo!"

Seeing the weapon high and in slow motion, Bryce gave a command, then threw himself to the side. He was fast, and so was his friend, both no longer disturbed by the shaking ground, and as Bryce was the main target of the troll, he knew that Gengo was safe for now.

The spear hit the torso of the tree, sinking in as though it was paper, and it splintered it. The troll picked a part of the wounded tree, split it, and chucked it at Bryce.

Jumping to the side with ease, Bryce smirked, no longer worried about himself, either. The troll was a big and slow monster, its physique and strength were its main power. Those might be useful while dealing with villagers or other weaker existences, but Bryce proved to be faster than a normal human and pretty nimble, at that.

Only his level one and lack of a weapon were stopping him from retaliation. So for now, he could only avoid the monster's weapon and dodge all thrusts. Those were enough to sow a little skepticism in Bryce's heart, however.

The troll was heavy, so the ground beneath them shrieked and trembled, and the falling of the trees must have notified some other of its kind or maybe humans. If it was the latter, Bryce would be relieved, but he doubted it'd happen since he was in the middle of nowhere.

'I doubt our stamina will keep up…'

After noticing a significant drop in his speed, Bryce had been forced to accept the imminent. As a swordsman, he knew how important stamina was, but as he had no way of dealing with the troll, he naively believed that dodging would somehow suffice against the enemy.

"Too fast, too annoying, too annoying!" the troll suddenly halted its steps and growled to the skies. It ignored the looming black clouds and turned its eyes to the dog. "A snack, first!"

Bryce's head grew hotter when he heard those words, his heart sank then loomed up with a fury Bryce had never felt before, he kicked the ground — a hole appeared below his feet — flying toward his friend. He used too much strength, however, stumbling a few times to join the side of his friend.

On the ground, Bryce did his best to keep eyes on Gengo, thus, he saw his dog avoiding the spear through sheer luck, then as the second thrust followed and it grazed Gengo's side, Bryce's whole body heated up as he saw blood fountaining up.

Gengo dropped onto his unwounded side, groaned painfully, then strained to stand on his four paws, he wanted to be with his friend until the very end! His feelings brought out a miracle as Gengo jumped forward and dodged the third thrust!

"Come here, you fucking troll!"

Bryce's eyes turned red, and his front teeth elongated as he howled curses at the monster. Soon, he was close to the troll, and without any care for his own well-being, Bryce balled his hand and threw a punch forward. His fist sank into the troll's flesh, which left the monster surprised, its leg ached, and its bone cracked a little.

Maddened, Bryce didn't care about his feat, and he kept punching forward to erase the monster.

He hadn't noticed that the skies turned completely dark as black clouds swarmed above them, the whole forest became swathed in darkness, and only red eyes of Bryce shone brightly.

Then, the silver trail descended from the skies.

It landed before Bryce as though the troll didn't exist.

It was a plain, silver sword.

Bryce grasped the hilt, and the odd feeling that he has been living with forever rushed out of his heart, went through his arm, and lodged itself within the sword. For the first time in his life, Bryce was freed from that bothering feeling, as though he had achieved the purpose of his life.

A knowledge stemming from his demon lord bloodline filled his mind.

"Inferior creature, a mistake of the world!" Bryce howled in a hoarse voice, sounding desperate and furious. Hearing his words, the troll dropped its spear, took heavy steps behind, its body heated up as well as though Bryce turned on some engine within it, and its strength surged.

But Bryce knew and wanted this because such a process meant that the troll's tough hide became softer, so soft that his level one swordsmanship could easily penetrate through.

He widened his eyes, glazed over with hatred, and whispered, "Gengo, we are killing this shit."

Gengo barked and approved his friend's decision!
