Humans spotted!

Chapter 5: Humans spotted!

"Don't vomit! Gobble all of it, Gengo!"

Bryce encouraged his friend to eat the meat of the troll, he held him from running away and used all of his enthusiasm to support him. Wasn't it general knowledge that neither a human nor a dog couldn't live without nutrients? They couldn't waste the hard worked food, too, and as Bryce hadn't spotted any other existences in the vicinity, he had an inkling it wouldn't be so easy to survive in the forest in the long run.

Gengo didn't chew on the meat, even though his owner had made it edible, and just wanted to gobble all of it, but it stopped in his throat, then sprang free from his mouth. He barked sadly, glanced at his friend as though he were a monster, then gawked at the drenched in saliva meat.

"We don't have a fire to cook it nor any seasoning, that's all I can do." Bryce patted Gengo's back, smiling faintly. "It's already our blessing that I can turn it into edible meat through the hero's bloodline."

That bloodline had awakened partially within Bryce, but it had allowed him to survive even in the harshest environment with its warmth mana. First, Bryce had learned survival skills alongside experience from his father; he had gone through a similar process during his battle with the troll, but this time, he had seen his father flaying the monster's skin, turning it into clothes, tent, and he also saw him using the power of the system to cut the meat and make it edible, drink blood, and more.

The memories turned into skills, and Bryce leveraged them to turn their lives in the unknown better. Secondly and more importantly, Bryce could use Excalibur and its holiness to deal with diseases and wounds, and he had a simple healing skill known as Holy Healing.

On the other hand, the demonic bloodline brought the Sword of Dracula, and he had awesome vampire abilities stemming from his mother's bloodline, known as the Thorny Veins. The cherry was the execution skill, which allowed him to instantly kill enemies when their health points reached 10%, and that was exactly what he had done to the troll.

"Don't give me that look," Bryce said, irked by Gengo's eyes, "the vampire's bloodline makes it easy for me."

As Gengo failed to eat again, he cast a wronged look at his friend, which annoyed Bryce as it was not his fault that he could easily chew on the troll's meat, feeling no repulsion whatsoever and knowing it would have been a mistake if he stopped his teeth from elongating to suck blood off it.

Bryce enjoyed the taste of raw meat and blood, which was like a sweet liquid he had never tasted before, and he quickly became fond of blood.

"Maybe you wanted to become a demon lord's servant, Gengo?" Bryce asked, and as his friend trained his eyes on his face, he opened his mouth widely, showcasing the unique teeth of the vampire race.

Gengo shivered, shook his head, then devoured the meat of the troll, his desire to stay away from evil mana urged him to eat the meat. He chewed on it, much to his displeasure, then gobbled all of it. He trembled and felt an unknown sensation going through him.

Bryce, who had been looking at his friend's stats, nodded and explained, "You have received my holy mana, and now it started finally coursing through you. That's how people of this world regenerate this unique power, by eating and drinking."

Ignoring his owner, Gengo curled up and focused on the foreign sensation, and seeing him like that, Bryce left him be, he stood up and went around the forest, but not far away to lose sight of his friend. He didn't want to argue with his friend and understood his eyes.

Bryce has adapted too fast to the new circumstances, he even used a different way of swordsmanship, slashing through the troll while holding a sword with one hand, and the way his abilities moved was as though he had been using them regularly for years.

He didn't know whether it was his talent, but Bryce didn't feel bad about his situation. The only thorn in his heart were his parents and sister, but as the latter didn't have good contact with him, Bryce missed his parents more. Aware of his situation, he could only ignore those feelings and focus more on the world around him.

Many thoughts coursed through him, then he decided. Bryce returned to his friend's side and sat down.

"Our luxury had been given to us, Gengo. But from now on, in those harsh circumstances, we will level up and become stronger to work for our own place. That's the main goal. I hope you will find your own personal goal, too."

Bryce wanted to know more about his real parents, so that was the secondary goal that he didn't want to currently bother his friend with. He also wasn't naive enough to not think of enemies, just the hero or demon lord's bloodline was enough to put him on a wanted list, and he had two of them.

He needed strength.

Gengo understood it, too, he knew his role was to support his friend as his companion. He also wanted a home, a warm and safe corner for himself, and not to worry about his food and life! Gengo took Bryce's side on his four paws and diligently waited for their next move.

But then, as though testing Gengo's new senses, his ears flapped and warned him about some other presences. Gengo sat down like a hunting dog and gazed in the direction he had felt someone. His eyes glazed with holiness for a few seconds, and he confirmed his suspicions!

"Humans or beasts?"

Gengo barked once.

Bryce nodded. "Listen, Gengo. From now on, I have amnesia, I only know our names and swordsmanship. My body also knows some survival skills, understood?" Without waiting for Gengo's answer, Bryce cut his clothes so that these two wouldn't stand out, he made them look wearily and shabby, his shirt looked pitiful, and his pants became short pants with holes, Bryce also threw away his shoes, stomped on branches and dirt, then smashed his hands and arms on the tree's sturdy bark.

He also kicked it, all to get bruises. He used his plain-looking sword to make some light wounds, stopped the holiness from healing him, and prepared to gather intel through other humans.

"Let's test out the charm of the hero's bloodline."

Gengo glanced at the hero, his body was such a mess, and he narrowed his eyes, skeptically following his owner.
