Chp 85.1 : Lolita

He was always hiding something. Not that she should know what did he hide, but everything about him was so mysterious.

This was why Vivian was so obsessed with him. A man, no, a boy who was 10 years of her junior has been on her mind since 2 years ago.

She admitted she has a crush on him. Was it immoral to be lusting after an underage boy? Yes or maybe no. The thing is, she was still confused about her feelings for him.

Whether it was love or maybe her curiosity to unravel the things hidden behind that perfect sculptured face.

And he did it again, Al somehow has unraveled the truth about the moon landing who has been a controversial topic for more than ten years and her father was one of the men behind it. Not directly conspired it but still helped conned billions of souls.

That news shocked her, and a bit mad at her father. He should not hide those things from his family but she did forgive him because that was the first time she saw her father begged them to keep this conversation a secret. Her father never begged, or at least not in front of her.

Then when they were scavenging her father's study room to find something interesting, Al found something that fascinated him.

That was the movie her father shot when she was just 2 years old toddler and she admitted she was a bit disgusted at her father when she knew her father shot this film.

She never watched it because of how unethical it was for a middle-aged man to chase after an underaged girl.

But the irony was, it happened to her. How one of her father's directed films that she hated the most has become a boomerang to her.

She also got worried about why Al was fascinated by that film. She didn't believe it when he said that the film was so hard to find in the US. There must be another reason, and one of the possibilities was Al only liked younger girls like Lolita.

So she asked those question to him but he immediately changed the topic. But she didn't give up, she kept pestering him but her effort was futile.

But she was able to force him to watch the movie with her, she needed to know why this movie seemed to fascinate him or how likely the story could relate to her.

And she was wrong, the movie was a tragedy and she was disturbed by its ending. She suddenly remembered that most of her father's films didn't have a fairy tale ending.

Vi also saw a similarity between her and Humbert, the protagonist of this film. He was possessive and attracted by Lolita's quirk.

Vi didn't have possessiveness like Humbert but Al's trait attracted her. She didn't yet lust after him but she was afraid she did. The one thing the same about them was, they like their partners.

The film finally ended and they sat in awkward silence. Neither of them dared to move their finger.

Behind this strangeness, Al finally able to break the ice, "Wow, that was something right?"

"Y-yes, Uhm, Humbert is kinda crazy delusional. He thought she loves Lolita but apparently, he only lusting after her." She stuttered.

"Yeah, I guess love needs to be genuine, either to both parties," Al whispered.

Vi wanted to say something but stopped. Genuine. That was something missing from her.

She was only interested in him because he was so mysterious, making her look like a teenage girl who developed a crush on a bad boy with a complicated background like those in girly novels she read when she was a teenager.

She smiled a little, she finally found out what her problem was.

She offered him to watch another film and he answered with a shrug. He told her to hit him with her best shot and she did.

She pulled out <The Shining> and there he goes again. Those eyes, when she saw him looking at the cover of VHS tape like he was looking at yearbook photos before a 20 years reunion celebration.

She asked him why he got that look and he said, "This is the first film I watch in the theatre with Mary."

His answer brought her to a question. The day she spent as a tenant in the orphanage, she talked with Mary, talked a lot.

One thing she wanted to become familiar with everyone else, the other was she wanted to find out about Al from Mary.

Mary told her that the first film he watched with Mary and the others was Star Wars and <The Shining> was released in 1980.

And that look. It was like he was an old man reminiscing his memories.

He did it again. So mysterious. Her obsession to unravel his mystery sprung back.

But what if she found out about all of his mystery. Would she still attract to him? Would her feelings for him become genuine?

So at night, she sneaked out to his room and snuggled beside him on his bed. She wanted to know if she was attracted to him without his mysteriousness.

To see him in his most invulnerable state. The most innocent phase of people in their life.

He looked so handsome when he sleeps. She caressed his face and made him squirm.

Oh, Al, She knew he still woke up but he pretended to sleep. She wasn't stupid just a bit spoiled.

She asked herself again if there will be a genuine feeling between them. Who knows?

For now and then, she was just a curious woman who wanted to know more about her younger friend.

Would she become Humbert who was lusting after Lolita? She hoped not and promised herself she won't be turning into something like him.

Fin.
