Ah De's Story

His real name was Li Zhi De. Everyone called him Ah De because he thought Zhi De sounded too soft. When Tang Senior found him, he was a runaway delinquent at 16, or maybe 17, so Ah De claimed. He bumped into Tang Senior and had the guts to try to steal his wallet but was caught by his lead bodyguard Dao Yi. Seeing how he didn't get killed after a somewhat not that harsh beating , Ah De decided he should join this gang.

Joining the gang was probably one of the best decision Ah De made. It wasn't easy being bossed around and occasionally beaten up by the older members but hey at least, he got a roof over his head, food and clothes for his scrawny body and sometimes, pocket money. He figured if he could do his job properly, perhaps he could survive until a ripe age of 60 and die off. He doesn't know why he thought he will die at age 60.

Then one day, Ah De fell in love. He didn't know it then, god, no. He hated the skinny little thing he had to babysit under Dao Yi's orders. He had to make sure the kid doesn't accidentally kill himself and make sure he doesn't starve. Heck, for Ah De, it was super awkward. He has only hung out with "older brothers" so he only knew how to behave the way his crude older brothers behaved. Now this younger thing showed up and he has to be the older one. Poor Ah De, he isn't used to being kind so he could only flashed his crude older brother way of communication. The younger boy avoided him like a plague.

But that changed. The boy eventually became Tang Yi or, Tang Junior, the adopted son of Tang Senior. Ah De could only imagine what would it be like if he was the one adopted instead, but he learned long time to never rant less what he has now were taken away.

Ah De only began to realize his feelings for Tang Junior was different after Tang Senior died and Tang Junior took over the gang. By then, what he thought was brotherly love only morphed into another deeper meaning of love. Ah De realized he could do anything if that meant getting Tang Junior to smile, preferably only to him.

Ah De did his work diligently, or as diligently as he could. By then he was one of the senior members and even Dao Yi who trained his combat skills thought of him highly. It was no surprise when the time came to pick personal bodyguards for Tang Junior squad, Tang Junior wanted Ah De. For Ah De, it was a proof that someone wanted him. It's a proof that his existence and effort meant something. It's proof that perhaps, just a tiny bit, Ah De could win the affection of Tang Junior.

Ah De is used to competition to survive, living in a constant environment full of danger. While he was concerned of Jack being favored for more assignments, he wasn't worried when Tang Junior started fooling around with both genders because he knew all that Tang Junior did, was to get information for his master plan. It was always that. And, Tang Junior never have more than one night relationships with anyone.

Ah De believed in the master plan because he believed in Tang Junior. He believed by making the master plan come true, Tang Junior will be happy. All Ah De wanted was to make him happy. So he did all he could to make that vision come true. He quietly pacified senior members who wanted to join rival gangs, got rid of anyone who potentially want to harm Tang Junior and sabotaged any mutiny attempts on his life.

Along the way, Ah De got injured over and over again, sometimes taking knife cuts or bullets pushing Tang Junior away. Tang Junior was caring and always spared time to see him. Ah De thought it was love and decided he wanted Tang Junior to know.

For Ah De, the next time he cried so hard since his mother died was after Tang Junior uttered this six words "I treat you as my brother". Even Ah De thought it sounded comical but for Ah De, it broke his heart that night when Tang Yi rejected his first confession. He didn't know how he got back into his room. He remembered not sleeping that night.

When the morning approached though, Ah De decided to quickly snap out of his thoughts, take a shower and dress up because he just got news, someone was planning yet another mutiny within the gang. He needed to plan the security plans with Jack.

That morning, Ah De decided to put a brave front and put on his old crude big brother mask on to deal with the captured traitors. He has decided that a broken heart was nothing compared to to the safety of the one person he wanted to protect most.

Ah well, Ah De thought, perhaps he can try again to make Tang Yi fall for him. Until that, he needs to make sure both he and Tang Yi remain alive.

That, was Ah De's way of loving.
