107 Kaiser's visit (2)

Isla's grip loosened and the plate that was in her hold slipped back into the big bowl of foamy water in the enameled steel sink.

It seemed as if time had frozen because of the unnerving silence from her. Kaiser also continued to stare at her back in front of the sink, and then parted his lips to resume talking.

''I am not sure if it was the duke, but when I was on my way to deliver her imperial majesty's message to the south, I sensed someone trailing after me. The duke was also in the imperial palace some minutes before her imperial majesty called for me.''
