1 A whisper in my ear

Knock! Knock!

"We're running late!" Jack yelled from the other side of the door.

I was busy pulling on a fishnet stocking that completed the little black tennis skirt when I missed and slid, ending up on the cold marble floor.

My low groan must have attracted him inside.

"No don-" I cried when the door started opening. Our eyes collided and immediately, the male made a complete turnaround.

"I am so sorry! I thought you..." He cleared his throat, which made me giggle, almost forgetting that he had seen my naked thighs and the thong I had worn under the skirt.

Jackson Raynatt, was my mom's boyfriend of ten months before she one day decided to dump me in his care and never looked back. That was five years back, I was only twelve at the time.

Jack had the option of letting me join foster care, but he decided to keep me...went through all the legal bulshit and now I'm fully his.

Over the years, our relationship was quite pleasing and easy. But then I hit puberty and I grew this shameful attraction towards him which I managed to keep as my darkest secret.

For a thirty-seven-year-old male, Jack looked great, his silky long brownish hair that I loved brushing when he was in a bad mood...the trimmed beard that drove most women crazy. Almost all my female friends had a crush on him. I mean, who wouldn't, Jack was the most perfect man my eyes had ever seen, both in reality and on the internet.

"Are you alright?" He asked his back at me.

"Yeah."

"Okay."

He reached behind him, feeling the doorknob before pulling it to close the door. Phew! That was a close one.

***. ***.

"Anything else?" Jack asked pushing the trolley behind me.

I gazed back, hardly seeing him over the mountain of baby items piled up in the trolley. Oh lawd! I was really overworking the poor man.

But it's this fault for spoiling me so much. Anything I wanted, I got it. Anywhere I wanted to go, he'd take me. Jack was never bothered by the constant stares or the recent incident in which someone mistook us for a couple.

"Nah! I think that's everything she might need."

"Okay, meet me at the counter."

"Sure thing."

With that, the male turned the trolley around and disappeared on the next aisle.

For a few seconds, I stood in front of the freezer, contemplating which ice cream I should buy for Kira. Even though she just had a baby, there isn't a rule that says she can't have ice cream, right?

In the end, I grabbed a vanilla chocolate flavor. She'll love this as always.

Minutes later, I was standing in front of Jack in the queue. My right hand was on the trolley while the other was busy scrolling through my phone, checking if Kira had texted back. Out of the blues, another hand covered mine as a warm wall came smothering me from behind.

"Don't keep the attendant waiting." A hot whisper landed in my left ear, which sent an intense shudder down my spine. His closeness almost made me drop my phone.

"Ye-yes," I stuttered and pushed forward the trolley to the male behind the counter. His questioning eyes were enough to communicate his thoughts, causing me to feel embarrassed.

I was sure he saw the blushing posture and shaking hands. All that while, Jack continued standing behind me as always. Anytime there was a queue anywhere, he never let anyone stand behind me except himself, talk about an overprotective guardian.

****When I started writing this book last year, it was all for fun, so pardon the slight grammatical errors you may encounter. I'm yet to edit it. But the story is awesome, or so my thousands of readers on Wattpad and inkitt have said. Have fun, don't be too serious with life*****
