Lexie watched as Zheme and Sophia disappeared into the kitchen and the denseness that now lived in her heart augmented when she turned back around only to find Mark looking at her. He smiled, white teeth glistening like gems. "Hey."
Lexie forced a smile, waving awkwardly in response.
Mark could sense the tension between them and somehow that only made his heart ache even more.
What was he doing here?
Why did he come?
Somehow, he knew the answer to his question, he knew why he forced his way on a path he somehow didn't belong, but he still couldn't help but question himself, couldn't help but ask why...?
Why force it?
Why care?
Just why...?
That was the question he couldn't answer, that's what was puzzling him.
He came here in hopes of making things clear to Lexie, to apologize, to...to finally confess, but why...why should he?
Lexie seemed happy, there was this glow around her, this light that he had never gave to her and that just imputed another why in his head.
