Chapter 39
Laxus' pov
I can see the way that that guy looks at her and it pisses me off to see someone look at her that way if its not me. She didn't even seem to notice it at all that he was openly flirting with her. I made a quick note to ask her about it another time. Although not right now, seeing the way that she is looking at her apartment. Lucy froze in the doorway and I put a hand on her shoulder trying to scoot by her to see what's happening. She flinches when she feels my touch then her shoulders loosen when she realizes that it's just me.
Like she's reading my mind she steps aside a little bit to let me in. What I see even has a monster like me startled. I shield her from this horrific sight and lead her out of the apartment. She willingly goes and when I turn to look into her eyes they are dull and lifeless and not full of light like how they usually are. It makes me sad to see her like this. After consoling her for a very long time I decided to take action. I give her my car keys and say "go to the car and wait for me and if I'm not back in 10 minutes don't come back here unless you have someone else with you. Do you understand?" She nods, wiping away her tears and looks up at me with glossy eyes.
It was her mother on the floor with blood seeping out in the kitchen. She's also naked and looks like a victim of physical abuse. The kitchen is trashed like she put up a fight but nothing else is touched which gives me this eerie chill feeling down my spine. I cover her body and move her then start mopping the floors and cleaning everything that I touch. I check my phone repeatedly to make sure that I don't go over the time limit that I have.
3rd person's pov
As he was distracted on his phone busy stalking his girlfriend's Instagram and looking at cute animals on the Hawaiian Humane Society website. Especially the dogs and bunnies who are to die for. Someone he didn't see before comes out from the shadows that they are lurking in and inch closer to him being careful not to make noises. The footsteps aren't even noticeable that they are making. You can't even hear them at all which is quite concerning. They have a weapon in their hand and as they are about to whack him with the weapon in their hand someone comes around them. Hitting them in the head with a bat which causes Laxus to turn around and is shocked at the scene he finds behind him.
Laxus' pov
"Lucy?!" I say in total shock and I don't recognize the other person. "Yeah who else you idiot, I have dragon hearing my ass" she retorts back to me as she nails a rib shot at the attacker who doubles over in pain. she doesn't stop right there like I expected her to but keeps on hitting him and drags the dude out of the house by the hair. Then ties him up to a chair and sprays pepper spray right into his eyes. He screams at the top of his lungs and looks at me pleadingly but at this point I don't give a fuck she can do whatever the hell she wants to this scumbag.
I walk over to her and give her a peck on the cheek and wrap my arms around her to nuzzle into her. "Someones feeling affectionate today" she says, letting out a cute little giggle despite the circumstances that we are in right now. I also crack a faint smile when she just happens to look up at me. Which seems to brighten up her smile. Lucy turns around to look at her mother again and gasps "baby I told you not to look at that". "She moved" is all she says and doesn't even elaborate on that at all. "What do you mean she moved?" I say treading lightly, a little on the cautious side. "Yes my mom her hand twitched" I'm no doctor but I have a little experience with this. We once did CPR in my 6th grade class on these dummies.
Thank god that the nurses impeccable timing on their part come swarming in with the police and an ambulance in tow with a gurney. They had a lot of other things but I didn't recognize everything that they had. I pulled Lucy back and she fought me but they needed to help her mother and in order to do that she had to be out of the way. "Hello sir, ma'am we got a call to this place and the police need to take both of your statements' ' says a police officer holding a notepad in his hand.
*A few moments later* (more like hours btw I just love saying this lol)
Our statements were taken from the police and we were free to go see her mother who to both of our reliefs is making a remarkable recovery but is under a bunch of anesthesia and other drugs to keep her asleep and not in pain all the time. That is so that her body can heal while she is asleep. I finally convince Lucy to go home and take a little nap while I watch her mom. We have been taking shifts for the time that she has been resting and going back home to get some sleep and shower and change before heading back.
She has been gone for a lot longer than normal. I know that girls take a long time getting ready but this is an abnormal amount of time and she's just going back to the hospital anyway not like a party or something. I'm starting to pace back and forth.
Why is Lucy late?
Did something happen?
Is Laxus overreacting?
Is her mom going to wake up soon?
