48 Fate of the world

Fate of the world

The scout mission had turned into an escalated war against strange blood thirsty creatures with red eyes and fangs as well as human figures in tattered clothing. The North Koreans who were in the west of the village had encountered a dozen of these creatures and although they had only fought for a 60 seconds at best, 10 of the Korean soldiers had fallen while only 5 of the creatures were killed. It was safe to say that although the soldiers had the advantage of numbers, they were experiencing a lot of losses in this battle.

The commander of the North Korean soldiers who was a bulky man with a black short hair like all the other soldiers bore an ugly expression on his face as he looked onto the battlefield. His name Hyunsoo Park.

He was a very smart man and he knew that with his current force it would only be a matter of time before they were overwhelmed. He noticed some of the creatures get injured before it grabbed a body from the ground. Hyunsoo Park observed it as it took a bite off the corpse's flesh and almost immediately its wounds began to heal at a speed visible to the eye.

Hyunsoo Park bore an even uglier expression on his face when he saw this and immediately took out a radio from his pocket.

"Base this is Commander Park speaking I order you to bomb the mining village immediately," he said and the operator on the other line was at a loss of words.

"S-sir are you sure?"

"Yes comrade I'm sure do it immediately because the fate of North Korea…no the human race might depend on it," Hyunsoo Park said on and ended the transmission.

"Tanks! Blow this shit town!" Hyunsoo sent a message to the two tanks that were stationed on the outskirt of the village but there was no response.

'Something feels wrong' he instantly thought.

At the outskirts of the village a soldier was crawling on the ground, trying to escape from his impending doom. This wasn't any soldier though this was one of the remaining tank operators and the tanks he was supposed to be operating together with three others was completely destroyed.

And what of the three operators? They were dead of course.

"Please…let…me…live…" the operator pleaded as he felt a strong grip on his head. His already dying heart sped up as the blood loss on the lower half of his body continued to gush out blood, his legs had long been detached from his body.

"Kekekekeke," the man who had grabbed him laughed in delight. "I love it when you humans beg"

The man had red glowing eyes and fangs but unlike the other blood crazed creatures left in the village, this man was perfectly sane…no this man was sane but also psychotic. With a strong squeeze, the man turned the operator's head into meat paste.

The man stood up straight before looking at the destruction he had caused. Dismembered bodies lied around him. Arms, legs, heads whatever part of the body that could be ripped off was virtually on the blood soaked ground. The tanks were flipped over and were also on fire.

The man then turned towards the village and although he was quite the distance away his excellent vampire eyesight enabled him to see clearly that Commander Hyunsoo Park and his troops were holding out well against the vampire ghouls but it was obvious that they were running out of options and would soon meet their demise.

Looking further, the man could see what looked like a small team of American soldiers also holding out against the ghouls.

"It seems conquering the humans will be more troublesome than anticipated," the man mused.

Armand, Billy, Rodgers, Simon , Mike and Steve had managed to re-group just before six vampire ghouls came into view. All six of them dared not to hesitate as they fired off their rounds with deadly accuracy.

In a matter of seconds the ghouls were turned into sieves leaking out blood, but due to their high tenacity the team had unloaded an entire clip each.

"These things are resilient," Armand commented as he fed a fresh magazine in his gun.

"Yeah I think we'll have to be careful from now on," Billy also commented.

Rodgers and Simon were looking around frantically, as they were the ones to personally experience the strength of the ghouls, they were naturally more afraid and cautious of than the rest of the team.

"We need to move!" Steve suddenly shouted as he multiple pairs of red eyes glowing through the fog a distance away from them.

"Damnit run!" Rodgers threw a grenade in that direction as the rest of the team was unknowingly running towards the center of the village.

The grenade went off but its effect wasn't as effective as the first as more than two dozen vampire ghouls were now hot on their heels. Mike who was at the back of the group slowed down and looked back.

His expression turned hopeless as he realized what kind of predicament they had all fallen into. There were two dozen ghouls chasing them but it seemed more were joining the horde such that it seemed as though a huge wave was coming their way to swallow them whole.

Mike felt his will to move falter. There was no way they could survive something like this, even if a full invasion force had been sent instead of a scout team, he doubted they would have faired any better than them.

"Mike! What the f*ck are you doing?" Rodgers shouted. They were 5 meters away from where Mike was standing.

Rodgers' voice shook him out of his daze. Mike wanted to turn around and resume running but with the seconds he had wasted he knew he'd still be caught either way.

"You guys get on out of here!" Mike raised his M4 carbine. "I'll buy you guys some time"

"Mike!" Rodgers helplessly shouted at his friend. They were members of the same team and although they did not talk much, they had a certain bond. It was the same for the rest of the others in the team so seeing Mike sacrificing himself like that made them feel as if their hearts were being squeezed.

They wanted to turn back to fight alongside him and were even prepared to die together.

"Don't even think about coming any closer! I need you guys to survive, to live and tell the outside world that we might no longer be as safe as we initially thought! These things can't only be in Korea. They could also be on US soil hiding like they have done here and I can't bear the thought of our people dying at the hands of these things," Mike said.

He fired at the horde, hitting some ghouls directly in the head others in the chest, arms, legs and many other parts. Mike managed to kill some off but compared to the numbers remaining it was an insignificant number of kills.

Mike could see that as the horde was 3 meters away from his position and closing in fast. With no other choice he pulled the pin of both grenades that he still on him and left them latched onto his belt.

With a battle cry he charged at the horde. Guns blazing and grenades ticking. Two seconds later and he caught up to the horde or more precisely, the horde caught up to him. One ghoul pierced his gut with its claws while another bite into his leg.

"Argh!" Mike groaned as he felt intense pain. Being a soldier he had been shot on multiple occasions but none of that could compare to what he was feeling right now. The claw that impaled his gut came out ripping out his internal organs in the process. Five other ghouls jumped on him as his body fell to the ground lifeless.

The two grenades finally went off.

Boom!

With a massive explosion dirt, dust and vampire ghouls limbs mixed in with blood were shot up into the air. The two grenades had managed to eradicate one third of the horde meaning out of the 2 dozen, only 8 were killed while the others simply came of with varying degrees of light as well as heavy injuries.

"Damn these motherf*ckers!" all the anger and frustations in him finally exploded. Rodgers took his gun and fired at the remaining ghouls. "Die!"

The severely injured ones met their end when they were riddled with bullets and some had grave injuries. Rodgers had lost a friend and a teammate because of these creatures and he wasn't going to let them go alive.

Rodgers moved forward as he fired. Rage fueling him. So far a total of 7 ghouls met their end.

Rodgers was still pressing as he moved towards the horde. Killing and injuring some. Energy was pouring out into his body, powering his muscles and heightening his senses.

Click! Click!

His gun ran out of bullets and he didn't have spare ammo.

A ghouls with seared skin pounced at him from the left. Rodgers moved back, evading the attack and when it landed he did not hesitate to plant his boot into its head instantly crushing its skull in.

Another ghoul charged towards him from the front slashing its claws at him. But he wacked it away with his gun sending it flying.

Armand and the rest of the team were beyond shocked. They had never seen Rodgers fight like that.

"Was he always this strong?" Billy asked

"No. I don't know what happened but he's definitely stronger than he was before," Armand replied

Yes Rodgers was never this strong. His strength had doubled since coming to this place, his reflexes, senses and lastly the death of his teammate were what triggered the incomplete evolution of his body. Rodgers discarded the large gun as he took out his KABAR knife and his sidearm. He moved forward slashing with his blade as he swiftly cut the throat of a ghoul before stabbing another in the solar plexus and firing a bullet in its brain.

Rodgers' movement had become more fluid as he became accustomed to his body changes. Despite all this though he received damage from the claws of the ghouls causing wounds to appear on multiple parts of his body. The wounds were hindering his overall combat power.

"Either way we have to help him," Steve said while going off to assist Rodgers. Not long after, the rest of the team moved forward and it did not take them long to clear the area of the ghouls.

Rodgers was now panting. Sweat covered his entire body and his military uniform had claw marks all over and blood stains, both from him as well as the vampire ghouls. It was safe to say that he was completely exhausted and if another ghouls were to appear then there would be nothing he could do.

The rest of the team were also exhausted to the point that they were sitting on the ground. All their guns were empty, they had no spare ammo and they only had one grenade left. Their chances of survival were really not looking up to them.

While they sat Armand got a transmission from his radio.

"Attention all men the bomber is 60 seconds away. Make sure you vacate the area immediately all risk death," it said

Everyone heard it loud and clear

Somewhere in another plane of existence, in a dark room a crystal ball was the only source of light. The crystal ball projected images of an American soldier taking on the vampire ghouls with limited equipment.

"My oh my. It seemed warriors from earth are finally beginning to evolve once more," a female voice said. "Hopefully this will increase their chances of fighting against the Dark counsel's conquest. Well it won't be long before the world evolves along with its inhabitants and when that happens they'll be in for a surprise. Hehehe"

Rodgers stood on shaky legs and walked towards the spot where Mike gave his life. He went down on one knee and picked up a silver chain with a name tag. Mike's name was engraved on it. The only reason they had attained this victory and survive the battle was because of his sacrifice.

If Mike hadn't done what he did, then they all would have died by now.

"Lets get out of here," Rodgers said after offering a silent prayer for his deceased friend.

Armand and the rest of the team nodded before they too stood and walked away at a snail's pace.

Meanwhile on another battlefield where the Koreans had engaged the enemy. The last of the ghouls had been eliminated. Unlike the Americans who only had one man step onto the path of evolution, the survivors from the Korean side had multiple who had evolved and out of those survivors one had developed the ability to harden anything he touched and so he hardened his gun and he had used it as a sledgehammer to crush the heads of multiple vampire ghouls even though the ability was still in its early stages.

Even Commander Hyunsoo Park had gone through evolution and he had explosive power in his fists.

"Carry the wounded! Leave any other thing that will slow you down because we have less than sixty seconds before the bombers arrive and blow this town to hell!" Hyunsoo Park shouted. Immediately the men went to work despite being tired. They carried their injured and some collected the name tags of the dead to honor their sacrifice. This would be considered the point at which the humans who had been divided to united once again.

The man with red eyes stood frozen as he had witnessed the human's victory against his arm of ghouls. The man had white hair, pale white skin and the appearance of a twenty-something year old. His name was Razel and he was one of the twelve executives of the Dark Counsel. He had lived for 200 years and he had watched the humans during that time inorder to have a clear gauge of how strong the humans were compared to their ancestors.

During that time the humans didn't seem that strong. In fact it would not be an exaggeration to say that they were significantly weaker but today he had been proven wrong as the ghouls he had created by turning the humans that used to live in this village had been defeated by a scout team of all things. This made him wonder just how strong would a strong invasion force be?

With that in mind the ring on his finger glowed and a spartial crack appeared in front of him. He walked through it and the crack was repaired in a matter of seconds.

The Koreans and the remaining members of seal team 2 had made it out just before the bombers arrived and completely turned the village into a version of hell on earth.

*************

The video ended with the village turning into a blazing mushroom cloud.

"It appears as though we have a new possible threat," President Albert said to the members who were seated on the table silent and shocked beyond words. What they had seen was not to be taken lightly and now they all understood why the President had called this meeting.

He was worried for the nation and possibly the entire human race.

"All the other nations have been informed of this and we have all agreed to keep this from reaching the public until we have more to lead up from this," the president continued.

"Yes I believe that is the best we can do for now," general Austin agreed and everyone nodded

"I also want you to prepare and train your men double time. Make sure they know what we could possibly go up against. The ACD will be monitoring any strange movements within the country in the mean time," president Albert continued to give orders.

"What of Rodgers sir?" another general asked

"The world's best scientists are looking at his body as well as those from the Korean side who had shown similar if not more profound changes. We'll be getting results soon," president Albert replied

"Can I ask a question sir?" an NSA director asked and Albert nodded in approval. "What is the ACD?"

"Though it was supposed to be classified I'll tell you. It is the Advanced Counter-terrorist Division that was not known even to me until a few months ago. They are the reason why terrorist attacks on our country have greatly dropped," president Albert replied. "Anyway this meeting is adjourned and remember. Nothing leaves this room."

With that the important meeting between the powerhouses on the US had ended and now they had to prepare for the worst. Similar meetings had taken place in other parts of the world.

London, Moscow, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Paris you name it and the subject of the matter was all the same. The looming threat to the world and they had all made a common decision, to put away their hatred and caution against each other and instead work towards the goal of eliminating the enemy to mankind the moment it appeared again.
