49 The Beach Episode

Human World, Martinique, Sainte-Anne Village, Les Salinas Beach.

A short walk from the hotel's rear exit, A beautiful beach with fine white sand and gently rolling waves could be seen. Further out, the blue ocean sparkled under the sun. On that picturesque scenery, the Alaverus, Gremory, Sitri, and a cute little fox girl were going to have the times of their lives. On the beach volleyball court, there were two pairs of girls competing in an intense match, while two girls watched. "Stop right there, little fox." James said just as she started to run. "Did you put on sunscreen? If not, come here and I'll help you put some on."

Reluctantly, Kunou walked over to James. Sitting next to him, Kunou could not help but continuously look back at the people having fun on the beach.

"If you don't mind your skin turning all red and itchy, go ahead." James said with a grin.

Kunou shook her head frantically. Just imagining getting sunburned made her wait obediently. As James rubbed the sunscreen on to Kunou's exposed skin, making sure to spread it evenly, Rhea lowered her book and smiled.

"James, you're gonna make a good daddy one day." Reya said with a sincere smile.

"Ha ha." James laughed hollowly, not knowing how to respond for a moment. He then responded when he got his thoughts in order. "That's something that only time can tell. I just hope I can be as good a father as mine was to me."

Seeing how serious James was about being a good father in the future, Rhea blushed a little, thinking about her future with kids. She blushed even harder when she saw Yuuto as the father in her fantasy. Certain he knew what Reya was imagining, James was about to speak. However, Kunou beat him to it.

"James-Oniisan, when you marry Sona-Oneesan are you gonna have a baby?" Kunou asked innocently.

Kunou nodded her head, even though she was not sure what being in school had to do with being a daddy. At the same time, James' loud laughter drew the attention of the girls on the volleyball court. Noticing James rubbing sunscreen onto Kunou, Sona and Akeno exchanged glances, while sharing the same thought.

'I wonder if he would help me if I asked.'

It would be even worse if Serafall watched her have James apply the sunscreen, though. Akeno, on the other hand, was not concerned about being embarrassed. "Lady Serafall, would you mind taking my place for a moment?" Akeno asked politely. "I need to get a drink."

'Like hell she does.' Sona thought with a cute pout on her face. 'Damn it. I wish I were more courageous.'

Unaware of Akeno's true objective, Serafall answered cheerfully.

"Sure, me and Ria-Tan will dominate, just wait and see." Serafall said with a fist raised in the air.

Sona opened her eyes wide at Akeno's brilliance.

'With Elder Sister taking her place, she won't tolerate Rias throwing a tantrum while the game is still on going.' Sona thought, praising Akeno's wit the whole time.

With Serafall's agreement, Akeno jogged off the court and made her way toward the line of beach umbrellas. When she arrived, Kunou had just finished. Passing Akeno on her way to play with Koneko and Gasper, Kunou waved and greeted Akeno.

"Come build a sandcastle with me, Akeno-Neesan." Kunou said while running on the soft sand.

"Sure, just give me a little time." Akeno replied with a smile.

Instead of asking James about the sunscreen immediately, she first took a bottle of water from the cooler they brought with them. Opening the bottle and taking a sip, Akeno was continuously sneaking glances at James as he removed his shirt and stretched. Then, taking a look at the volleyball court and noticing the match was back in full swing, Akeno decided now was the perfect time.

"Hey, James." Akeno said. Once James turned in her direction, she continued. "Would you mind..."

"Come on, lay down here." James said while pointing at one of the spread-out beach towels. "Did you think I couldn't tell what you and Sona were thinking when you looked over here while I was helping Kunou with sunscreen?"

"Hehehe." Akeno could only giggle awkwardly at being seen through.

Although she had been seen through, Akeno still felt no embarrassment about James rubbing sunscreen on her. As a matter of fact, she was looking forward to it. While licking her lips, Akeno lay face down on the towel. She then turned her head toward James to see how he would react to the opportunity presented in front of him. To Akeno's disappointment, James was unflustered. This caused her to pout a bit. At that moment, James spoke.

"Do you care about tan lines?" James asked casually.

Thinking this would be the perfect way to fluster James, Akeno began to speak.

"I almost forgot about that." Akeno said as she began to raise her upper body. "I'll just..."

"I'll take care of it." James said, interrupting Akeno while pushing her back down on the towel.

Surprised by James' assertiveness, Akeno lay back down with shock on her face. Then, James reached down and untied the knots holding her top up. James then took the bottle of sunscreen and squeezed it onto his left palm. With a sufficient amount of sunscreen on his hand, James began to rub his hands together, warming the sunscreen in the process.

'This isn't what I was expecting. Why is he so damn calm.' Akeno thought to herself frantically.

'I already told you there would be punishment if you kept testing me.' James thought as he warmed the sunscreen. 'That's strike two. I'll just remind her who the alpha is in this relationship.'

James then placed his hands on Akeno's upper back and slid his hands from her shoulders to the small of her back. After transferring the majority of the sunscreen from his hands to her back, he began rubbing it in. Using firm pressure with the heel of his palm and thumbs, James worked the sunscreen into her skin. He walked and talked with Leona, Venelana, and Rhea. He relaxed under an umbrella with Reya. He played in the water with Mizore, Moka, and Flora. He even participated in a five-on-five game of beach volleyball with Dante, Lady, Yuuto, and Serafall against Rias, Akeno, Sona, Tsubaki, and Cu Chulainn. All in all, they had a great time until the sun started setting.
