Chapter 4: Edwin Appears

"Rroooaaahhrr!!"

The large wyvern roared angrily. Amber's attack had burned its face and left a deep gash at the corner of its mouth. Already mentally unstable from the corruption, the creature was now completely under the control of its anger. Than it locked its eyes on the woman in front of it and quickly charged towards her.

From where she stood, Amber looked up at the beast as it raged towards her, destroying the trees around it. When Amber heard the voices of the soldiers behind her, dealing with the smaller wyvern, her expression turned more serious.

'I must finish this quickly.'

With these thoughts running through her head, she gripped her long sword in both hands. When the creature came within a few meters of Amber, it opened its mouth to bite her and suddenly lunged forward. At that moment, Amber narrowly dodged the creature's mouth to the right. Her eyes began to glow with a red light, causing the sword in her hand to ignite.

Next she swung her sword towards the creature's winged left front leg. Just as her flaming sword was about to reach its target, the blade struck a hard object and bounced back. Sensing danger, Amber immediately rolled to her right and escaped.

"You cunning lizard!"

She muttered as she stood up and looked at the creature. Behind the large wyvern, she saw its tail, almost like a scorpion's, stabbing menacingly where she had just been. After a moment the creature pulled its tail out and turned towards Amber.

The large wyvern was preparing to charge at Amber once more as it stared at her with its red eyes. A smile gradually spread across Amber's beautiful face and her eyes began to glow fiercely with battle intent. Seeing that her enemy was able to fight back appeared to delight this battle-crazed woman.

When the creature charged at her again, she held her sword in both hands and pointed it horizontally towards the creature. Her sword began to glow with red flames, but this time the flames were more intense than the previous ones. Amber's body leaned forward slightly, and then she lunged towards the creature with a speed that was barely visible to the eye. The ground cracked from the force of her foot on the ground.

Boom!

When the creature lost sight of Amber in the middle of its charge, it stopped where it was and swung its tail randomly in front of it to protect itself. The large wyvern shattered the trees in front of it and created a cloud of dust.

The large corrupted wyvern was unable to realize where its enemy was, even though it destroyed the surrounding area. Just as the large wyvern was about to strike again, it felt a great pain in its tail and let out a cry of agony. Meanwhile, from the air, a large, scaly tail with a scorpion stinger-like tip dropped noisily to the ground.

As this happened, Amber landed gently on the ground from the air right behind the creature. As the creature screamed in pain, she prepared for her killing blow. With her sword held in both hands and her long flowing red hair, she really looked very heroic. But the big, sadistic smile on her face completely destroyed the whole image of her. Although Amber wanted to continue their fight a little longer, she decided to end it quickly in order to relieve her subordinates of their burden.

"I'm sorry to say that this is going to end you."

After Amber said her sarcastic remark, her blue eyes began to glow red again. She raised her sword and was about to charge at the creature once more when a pair of thunderous roars from the sky broke her concentration. Hastily, Amber raised her head and as she looked up, the smile slowly faded from her face at what she saw. Her brow furrowed and she wore a troubled expression.

"Damn it! Where the hell did they come from!"

Flying through the darkness of the night, barely visible in the moonlight, two new, corrupted wyverns, larger than their brethren fighting below, loomed over the battlefield.

"Everyone! Watch out for the creatures above you!"

Amber shouted, trying to warn her soldiers, but she didn't stop there and immediately started moving towards them. She had just started sprinting when she sensed a danger and stopped. Seeing a barrage of acid shots coming at her, Amber had no choice but to dodge them.

While Amber was distracted, the wounded wyvern recovered itself and started throwing acid from its mouth towards her as if it had lost its mind. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Amber's concern began to grow.

'I can't go back to them until I deal with this, but even if I deal with it right now, I won't have time to save my soldiers, therefore a lot of people will die in the meantime. Damn it! I don't have enough time to save everyone!'

This challenge, which she would have gladly accepted on her own, now made her worry because she was not alone. They had planned to deal with one corrupt wyvern on their way here, so they had prepared and brought people accordingly. Of course, they were surprised to find that there were two of them, but it was nothing they couldn't handle. But against four wyverns, plus the fact that they were ambushed, their current situation didn't look so bright. Amber thought she could single-handedly defeat them all, but most of her subordinates would probably be dead by then.

Despite her overall frightening reputation, Amber wasn't someone who would leave her subordinates behind. That is why, even though they feared her, many soldiers respected her and followed her willingly. Now, faced with such a situation, her hands were tied and she was wondering what to do. While Amber was lost in thought, the wyverns on the hill were descending quickly from the sky towards her soldiers.

So Amber decided to stop dodging the large wyvern's acid attacks and go for the kill. As much as she was worried for her soldiers, there was nothing she could do now. As she angrily gripped her sword in both hands and was about to charge, a white light began to rise from the dark forest on the side of the brightly lit battlefield.

A white light that illuminated the darkness of the night began to shine just a little away from the battlefield. Compared to other places in the forest, the place where they were fighting had relatively few trees. And this glowing light was coming from deep inside the forest, from the dark area with many trees.

"Multiple Light Spear"

After these words were heard on the battlefield, a beam of light suddenly shot up from the area whence the words had sounded and rushed towards two wyverns in the air, charging towards the unprepared soldiers. As it approached the wyverns, the beam of light suddenly split into several small spears of light. Following this, one after another, these spears began to hit the creatures that were still in the air.

Boom, boom, boom!

The sound of the explosion of each spear hitting the creatures echoed around. Meanwhile, the wyverns exposed to these spears of light screamed in agony and began to fall rapidly from the air to the ground.

As soon as they crashed into the ground, a huge cloud of dust covered the area. Before anyone realized what had happened, a silhouette of a man passed swiftly across the battlefield and came close to the creatures. Thanks to the surrounding torches and magical lights, the figure could be clearly seen to be a blond-haired man wearing light metal armor over a white outfit. His face could not be seen as he turned his head towards the fallen wyverns.

Edwin frowned for a moment at the corrupted creatures in front of him, struggling to their feet.

" These must be the results of the evil that Goddess Livian mentioned."

At the end of his words, he disappeared for a moment and then reappeared in the same place. When he reappeared, the creatures that were trying to stand up ceased their movement and stood where they were for a while in silence. If you looked closely, you could see a not very large hole in their chest where their hearts were located.

As the wyverns slowly lost their life force as a result of their hearts being pierced, the light in their red glowing eyes went out and the creatures' eyes went back to their original green. Following that, they collapsed on the ground and did not move again. As a result of these events that happened in a few seconds, the noisy battlefield became silent for a brief moment.
