1 In the end..

... did it matter?

It beeing many things.

From your average day, to the little good or bad deeds you did, the angry shout at a stranger and basicly anything you have ever done.

While thinking about this, Hermann died.

__

He was your below average human beeing.

Back in the Day, his glory days, He was handsome, well trained and knew alot of people. Now, shortly after reaching 30 years of age, Things are different.

Not in a good way.

As a quite obese, slightly above average intelligent and very lazy man, Hermann never did much more than he needed to.

Working in a not so deadend job with quite a decent income, you might think things are ok.

They are not.

Not caring about the Bad things in the world, sitting in a well used Office chair infront of his outdated computer, Hermann was busy doing his favorite thing; gaming.

Not that He was good at it.

That wouldve taken effort.

It was just a way to kill time, while distracting from anything else.

Besides the cold light emitted by his monitor, there was darkness all around.

While the Wind blew audibly outside, the mice in the walls were scratching away at some unknow substance and Hermann bit into his last hot pocket, burning his mouth beeing the greedy fat ass he was.

Silently cursing and blowing out his breath to cool his now burnt tasted buds, he thought about his life.

It wasnt so Bad, was it?

Steady income, big flat, no noisy neighbours.

Even a company car and no apperent illnesses.

Yet there was a void, filled a little by good thoughts and hopes for the future though never full.

His last girlfriend left him after four years, because He became the lazy fatass he is now.

Of course, blaming it on her was much easier than changing his ways.

Besides, she was a pain in the ass and He never really loved her after all.

Thats what He told himself atleast.

No woman with at least a little bit of dignity left would want anything to do with him im a romantic way.

He knew that, yet kept telling himself it was the society, the double standarts or whatever reason else he found to blame.

With a sight, he heaved his body out of the poor chair, fixing his half hanging down shirt and walked to his balcony.

While He was a lazy fuck, no smoking in the flat was a fixed rule.

Afterall, the walls would get yellow and you would have to paint them when moving out.

Too much of a hassle.

Climbing over empty pizza boxes, He reached the door and walked out, igniting his lighter and took in a mouthfull of smoke with delight.

Such a stupid behavior, smoking.

Expensive, deadly.

Kind of like suicide on rates.

In the end, the addiction won.

Staring at the big panorama of the dark city infront of him, he finished smoking.

A short view on his phone to check the time, a second look because he didnt check the time on his first glance, he sighed again, confirming his suspicion of having killed another night with doing nothing usefull.

"Whatever, tomorrow will be diffrent!"

It never was.

Slowly but steady, he reached his bedroom.

Pasing the bathroom, a short thought about brushing his teeth was met with another wave of "I'll do it tomorrow".

Falling in his bed, he thought about tomorrow.

Sunday. Such a useless day. Yet so nice to be able to do nothing and not feel bad about it.

Sleeping half the day away, he awoke, not really rested, but thirsty.

Searching besides his bed, he found a bottle half full of water, chugging it down in one go.

Checking his phone, it was afternoon already, one new message.

Vivien was one of the three girls he met online, not really giving it any effort, he made them like him by telling wild stories about himself.

She wanted to meet him today.

Giving it a quick thought, He answered that he had his weekly migrain and wasnt available.

Taking a shower, getting dressed and for what, the chance of sex?

Not that he really believed this was a possible outcome of such a meeting.

Getting his masses out of the bed, after stretching througly, he wobbled back to his computer.

Slipping on a pizza box, he hit his head on the wall and the world went black.

A headsplitting pain and a wet feeling on his cheeking, he awoke in the dark room.

"Should have put those boxes away..."

Standing up unsteadily, he picked up the reason for his fall , put them on the chair next to him and went to the bathroom.

Stupid boxes.

Now he had blood all over his shirt and the migrain was starting to form.

After cleaing up the blood and changing his shirt, he sat back down infront of his computer, taking some painkillers and watching unfunny american shows.

Going to the hospital might have been a good idea, but his head wasnt that hurt and he didnt want to wait for an hour just so a doctor could tell him he was all right.

After half an hour, the migrain was fully formed and Hermann knew only sleep would help.

Back to bed it was.

After what seemd like hours, he finally fell asleep again.

Another wakeup proved to be different.

No migrain.

But he couldnt move.

"What?!"

Starting to panic, his first thought went towards sleep paralysis.

He experienced this once before and wasnt too fond of the experience.

But this was different.

There was no weird feeling.

He just couldnt move.

On second thought, he couldnt feel his body either!

Trying his utmost to move, nothing happened.

Was this supposed to be one of those realistic dreams?

While lamenting about his shitty situation, his vision started to narrow.

Little by little, it became smaller, darker.

Until after what felt like hours, it was black.

He couldnt see, he couldnt feel, just darkness.

After the inicial panic, Hermann calmed down and tried to think rationally.

What could this mean?

Death?

Unlikely. But he never died before, so how could He know what that might feel like.

A Bad dream? Likely.

This state of beeing didnt change for what felt like hours, but could have been minutes for all he knew.

A little light emerged in the distance, the first thing he saw after the long darkness.

He couldnt tell what it was, nor look around too much.

Trying to talk als proved fruitless.

So he stared at the little light that sat unmoving in the distance.

Slowly, more lights appeared.

And even more. His vison went from black to pure bright white.

After Another unknown amount of time, He heared a voice.

"Sorry there, im late. I hope you didnt have to wait for too long."

Dawut? This was foreboding.

In a very bad way. Did he actually die?

But he Was fine after he hit his head!

"No, you were not fine. Far from it actually."

So the speaker could hear his thoughts?

Just great...

Where am I, what happened, am I actually dead and who are you?

"Well, you died, obviously. Gotta tell you, i had a good laugh after you actually just went to bed after you fell. I mean, how stupid can you be? Getting injured and not giving two fucks about it. Hilarious really. You had a really Bad concussion and you took it for a migrain.

After the blood filled your brain, you died.

For who i am... Sone call me death, others god, some the grimreaper.. I am all of those and none.

If you want to know what i do, i devour souls!

Ha! Just kidding, i am kind of a ferryman for those passed to wipe your memory and get you back on track for reincarnation.".

I couldnt die from that, come on, i have so much left to achieve!

" I mean, Sure, lie to yourself all you want, i dont care. But we both know you wouldve done shit and died like you did today, maybe a few decades later in your sleep, but thats that.

Anyways, thanks for the laugh, hadnt such a good one i quite some time. "

Sure, laugh about my misery...

And... Youre propably right. I liked they way things were and wouldnt want to change a thing.

" Yep, you were a lazy fat bum and a happy one at that. Well mostly.

I still have others to guid, so i will send you on your way. For entertaining me, ill give you a choice.

Back to earth or somewhere Else?"

There is other life out there?

But do i want another chance in earth? I didnt really like the general mentality.

"Not really in your universe, but in others. "

Are they the same?

"Some are, many are not. I cant promise where you land, since i basicly just pass you on to another ferryman. It might be something new!"

I like those isekai stories. Maybe i am lucky?

Take me to another world! I really hope im lucky!

"Your call buddy! Off you go!"

The light went away in a flash, darkness again.
