The Meeting

Chapter Nineteen - The Meeting

The maids in charge of his wardrobe were still deciding if he should attend the meeting wearing a royal apparel or formal suits.

While Asher slipped out of the room, even past Nene, who stood guard at the door, wearing only suede robes on cute pajamas.

The boring meeting was at night anyway. Why not be ready to sleep immediately afterwards?

He strolled in, marching past the guards, and officials who were seating below his father, and unto the throne.

There were murmurings as he strolled by. He sat at his father's right hand with crossed legs, gazing down at the officials in their expensive attires.

"Waste of clothing." He yawned, propping his head with his arm on the armrest.

His father, the Lycan King, glanced at him then smiled. An official stood up to speak, making the Lycan King's smile fall.

"Prince Asher, it's an honor to see you actually attend this preparatory meeting willing." The official greeted sarcastically.

The others chuckled in low tones, agreeing. Everyone, even the Lycan King, expected Asher to be dragged by his guardian into the meeting.

It was how he could attend last year's, when it became compulsory as he turned eighteen.

"It is your honor." Asher agreed. "I hope you stay alive to see me attend next year too." He grinned.

The chuckles died down. Was that a threat? Was the Prince assuming the official wouldn't live long? The other officials began clearing their throats, looking away from Asher. The prince was known for taking jokes too far.

The official who spoke quickly sat down his butt.

"Now, let the meeting commence!" the King's advisor bellowed and the guard trooped out of the hall, closing the door behind them.

The King adjusted himself on his seat before smiling at his officials. He had a striking resemblance to Asher in that they both had long black hair and green eyes.

However, the Lycan King had a tanned skin, with scars gotten from war, while Asher's skin was pale and smooth.

The King also had a bulkier build than his son.

"The Lycan Packs Meeting will hold in a month's time. And the highlight, this year, will be celebrating ten years of peace!" The King bellowed, causing the officials to cheer.

Asher wore a bored expression. Why were they celebrating ten years of peace when the cause of the war, werewolves, still roamed the earth?

Such peace was temporary, almost fleeting.

This was the reason he detested such meetings, nothing interesting, just pointless celebrations when they was nothing to celebrate.

"Ah!" The Lycan King raised his hand. "Another highlight will be introducing a new Pack and Alpha under us. Black Claws pack will be joining us!"

Yet another Pack? Asher sighed. So boring.

An official sprang to his feet, the oldest of the group. "Isn't that boy young to be an Alpha? I have no issue with him but he's inexperienced."

The Lycan King frowned, "He raided and killed two Alphas and an Alpha King, raided three packs, a whole Kingdom, in one night! And you really call him inexperienced?!"

The official grumpily sat down.

Asher's eyes widened as his ears perked up. There was someone that vicious? He smirked. That'd be an Alpha he'll be willing to make friends with.

"Is that so? How old is this Alpha we're taking about?" he leaned towards his father.

"I think in his twenties. His father was Alpha Eli, the one who was killed by werewolves." His father whispered.

Prince Asher nodded. He heard of the story. That was fifteen years ago and the son was just seven. Didn't that mean the new Alpha was just twenty-two?

Apart from him, a royalty who could assume Lycan Alpha King at twenty or higher, most Alphas had to get to thirty before they could be selected.

One could even get to forty before a chance to become Alpha arises. "He will be coming to the meeting, right?"

His father nodded. "You seem interested in him. Maybe this time, you'd willing attend the Lycan Packs Meeting."

Another official rose up. "Your highness, in as much as six packs have accepted this new Alpha, I agree that he's still too young to be an Alpha or even join us here."

Too young? That was a Lycan that defeated an Alpha King and other Alphas. What could they do?

The Lycan King frowned. "He's already a Lycan Alpha and I think he has surpassed his age with that achievement."

"The achievement isn't the point." The official argued. "Is he matured enough to rule a pack…"

"He's old enough to plan the defeat of an Alpha King and other Alphas. What have you done at your old age?" It was Asher who spoke.

The officials grunted and some stared down at him. Being rude to an official openly had consequences but they knew he didn't care for the consequences.

The young prince stood up. "I say we let him come to the meeting and make his first impression. You have never even seen him before."

"We don't have to see him to know what he can do." The official replied.

"Yes, you don't need to because you already know what he can do. He can defeat a werewolf kingdom and take their throne. What's wrong with him?" Asher now raised his voice.

"That's not the only requirement for a Lycan to be an Alpha. There is still a lot he's to learn." the official wasn't quitting either.

The other officials were now getting tensed.

"Then let him learn, while attending the meeting. He already have the charisma and strength of a Lycan Alpha, he can grow the other attributes later." Asher insisted.

His father nodded at him as he sat down. That was the first time his son was active in a meeting. The first time he attended, he was quiet all through.

The officials began mumbling and the one standing seethed angrily then shouted. "That Lycan Alpha is in his twenties. Do you know how foolish they are!"

Everyone gasped and there was resounding silence.

The official had screamed at the prince. And worse, had referred to Lycans in their twenties as foolish. The prince was even younger.

Asher had a psychotic grin on his face as he turned his head to the man. "Ouch. Young people aren't that foolish."

That was what annoyed him most? And not the shout? The other officials bowed their head in apology. The offender did the same, visibly sweating now.

He felt like shitting his pants when the young Prince began to stroll down to him, step by step. "You have a lot of guts to say that to my face. And loudly."

"No, no." the official raised his head. "I don't have the guts. I'm sorry…" his eyes budged widely.

The officials shrieked, shifting back and wiping off the liquid that splashed on them.

Frightened ones fell to the ground as they scampered away from Asher who held an organ in his bloody hands.

The offending official fell to the ground, coughing out blood while his throat had a hole and his gullet taken.

"Now, no gut for him to speak so fiercely. And no throat for him to speak at all." He smiled, throwing the gullet to the ground. "Take him out. If he's strong, he'd survive."

A guard briskly walked to the official and carried him out. Everyone knew he wouldn't survive it and they stared in horror, awaiting the King's judgement.

"Now, is there anyone else who think the new Alpha shouldn't attend the meeting?" the Lycan King asked.

The officials looked at him surprised, they noticed the proud grin on his face and felt bitter. If he felt proud of his son's actions, then they'd be no consequence.

They had to either accept it or be next.

"We accept the new Lycan Alpha!" one of them stood up to say. "With pleasure, your highness."

(Author's note: I like Asher. Do you?)
