13 Chapter 13: A Knock

To the untrained eye, it would look as if Quentin had simply moved to join the conversation. But all at once, Nyrissa saw it for what it was. Quentin was moving to protect Ryan in case Amanda said something cruel. It was a well-practiced, well-used, and extremely subtle maneuver that bothered Nyrissa on a deep level.

It showed that as the face of the company, relationship, and family, Ryan was the most likely one to get the brunt of any negative backlash should it happen. And Quentin to spare him what he could.

Nyrissa was moved and slightly jealous. She had always hoped for a partner that would support and protect her like that. She wondered if that would be a part of the arrangement once the wedding was over.
