For Someone Who Just Got Divorced

ARCTIC LIGHT HOTEL, FINLAND

A black Royce jeep came to a halt in front of the hotel. Coming out of the jeep was a man in black suit with a briefcase in his right hand and a woman dressed in a black suit trouser and a chiffon shirt with a grey overcoat and grey shoes to match, not leaving out a cashmere pashmina scarf which was hung stylishly around her neck. She was a true definition of two words put together; ‘Fashion Goddess’.

Her short-permed hair and her cold honey brown eyes gave out a scary aura. She took out her dark shades from her bag and wore it before entering into the hotel. As soon as she stepped into the hotel, she was welcomed by a group of shareholders.

“Welcome Ms. Kirsi, we’ve been expecting you for a quite a while.” A middle-aged man named Mr Henry shook hands with her, putting on a fake smile.

“I never imagined I would be welcomed by a few old people today… I feel so insulted.” She neither frowned nor smiled at them when she spoke but they could all swear that they felt her glare at them through those dark shades she had on.

“Besides, you people don’t look so happy to see me.” She took off the shades revealing her cold eyes to them. Those menacing eyes of hers were enough to send them down to hades.

“Don’t you think so Mr Fedrick?” she turned to the man who came with her, her thick eyebrows inching farther from its original position.

“Yes ma’am. They all look like they would devour us if they had the chance.” Fedrick, her personal assistant couldn’t say otherwise. He would rather lie through his teeth than get belittled by her. He had been her personal assistant for a long time and knew when she was serious, joking and pissed off.

“Right?” She chuckled but Fedrick knew she was pissed off.

“What do you mean by that Ms. Kirsi, why wouldn’t we be happy to see you?” Another middle-aged man walking with the aid of an expensive gold stick spoke up although he had a frown on his face like the rest of them.

“Well your wrinkled old faces say otherwise. I sincerely don’t understand why my grandfather keeps old, smelling rags around. You guys should really take some leave and shower properly before coming back to work.” She glared at every one of them before walking away.

“How dare she say such awful words to us, we are old enough to be her parents.”

“Who does she think she is?”

“For someone who just got divorced, she’s way too arrogant and rude. Shouldn’t she be humble?”

“She has such a bad attitude… maybe that’s why her husband got rid of her.” They all whispered amongst themselves like they had nothing else to do.

“I apologise on the vice president’s behalf but I don’t think the president would be happy if he heard you gossip about his granddaughter. I suggest you just take your pay checks and keep your mouths shut after all, it’s not like you people do anything meaningful around here so receiving insults wouldn’t be so bad, would it? I hope you all have a lovely day.” Fedrick bowed to the group who were murmuring in anger before going after his boss.

“I really hate that lady and her assistant.” Mr Henry whispered to the others in rage.

“What took you so long?” she leaned on the wall beside the elevator, waiting patiently for him.

“It’s nothing ma’am, you know I have a thing for having the final say in matters.” They both walked into the elevator.

“And how did it go?” she looked at him, expecting a soothing reply from him. Out of all the personal assistants she had ever since she became the vice president, she had a liking for him probably because he was good at doing her dirty work and was smart enough to know when she needed his help without her asking.

“Splendid as always… you should have seen me scold them Ms.” He spoke like a child whose deed he knew would please his mother. He took out a wrap of chocolate and two lollipops which he kept in his briefcase and handed it over to her.

“Thank you very much, I was actually craving for something sweet.” She collected it from him with a satisfied smile on her face, took off the wrap from a lollipop and then placed it in her mouth. The savoury taste of the treat in her mouth suddenly calmed her nerves.

“Nice.” She gave him a thumb up, keeping the rest of the treats in her pocket.

Once the doors to the elevator opened, a well-designed office came into view. The dull looking office didn’t fail to match the scary aura around her. It screamed both luxury and darkness, even the mahogany desk and black swivel chair complimented the aura around her. She placed her bag on the desk in the office as she suddenly had the urge to walk around the room.

“where do you think my grandfather went to?” she moved around the office, inspecting every nook and cranny of it from the office desk to the shelves looking for the slightest dirt. She was addicted to cleanliness and couldn’t stand being dirty or in a dirty place.

“I’m afraid, I have no idea.” He became uncomfortable… he had always been uncomfortable whenever she did her daily check-up. The worst part of it all was that she would rather keep everyone on their toes by inspecting each and every department of the hotel, wearing her luxurious leather gloves and rimmed, medicated glasses.

“over there.” She pointed at the ceiling with a pleased smile on her face.

“what?” he couldn’t understand what she was saying until he turned to the direction she pointed at which was filled with cobwebs.

“If there’s one thing I hate the most, it’s dirt and the most unpleasant dirt I can’t stand is cobwebs… have I been gone for so long?” she sat on the sofa placed at a spot in the office, her hands dialling a number on the telephone positioned on the side table of the sofa.

“I’ll get someone to clean this up.” He was about to leave the office when she stopped him with the signal of her hand. All he could do was watch in silence at how brutal she’ll react.

“Tell Ms. Benny from the sanitary department that she’s fired and shouldn’t bother coming to work anymore.” she spoke with poise as soon as the call got connected to her secretary. Immediately she ended the call, she positioned her back on the sofa, her head leaning on the wall with her eyes closed as a form of relaxation.

“Find out what my grandfather is up to from Mr Leo as you know, I don’t like surprises.” She rubbed her temple lightly with her hands.

“Yes ma’am.” He bowed slightly to her before leaving her office with his phone to his ear.
