Her New Neighbors

15 year old Mýa has lived in the woods with her family for her entire life. She lives with her dad in the first house in the woods, her uncle lives in the second house deeper in the woods, her great grandparents used to live in a house by the opening of the woods and owner a trailer they rented out, and her cousins live the farthest in the woods closest to the river. Her mom died giving birth to her so she lives with her dad and their pets/animals. Her life has always been pretty simple, she would play in the woods, fish, hike, tend gardens, take care of her animals, go boating, have bonfires, play softball, go to school, and always hang out with her family. Things changed, however, when her great grandfather passed away and something needed to be done with his property. After a lot of clean up and repair, it was decided that it was time to sell his house, sheds, and trailer. They happened to find the perfect family of three who wanted to buy all of the property and fix it up. That is where this story starts. •~~~•~~~•~~~•~~~•~~~•~~~•~~~•~~~ I had been planning to make this novel for some time but decided to make it now because it fit this contest entry needs. It is a Sweet Love romance that has some funny parts, a modern teen view point, and a independent feminist female lead. I also am working on Sealed With Blood, and I have a book called Coincidentally Fated that is at a bit of a stand still. There are no major misunderstandings or abuse or any type of suggestive parts. This is not my cover, all rights go to the original creator. This is a fast paced book. •~~~•~~~•~~~•~~~•~~~•~~~•~~~•~~~ Sneak Peaks "I think it would take a very long time for the neighbor girl to fall for him." He stared at her intensely before asking "So you really have never had a boyfriend before?" "I haven't let any other guy be close to you. I wouldn't want anyone else to have this with you." "Me Too..."

Tutoring

"Hey, wake up. We are at our stop." Zeke said after the bus let some kids off at the stop before Zeke's house. Mýa opened her eyes slowly and sat up. She stretched her sore neck, yawned, and rubbed her groggy eyes. Zeke laughed at her actions, he thought she looked like a child who had just woken up from her daily nap. She gave him a little glare and a slightly confused look, and he just laughed some more.

At this point the bus stopped at their stop, Zeke got out of the seat first and waited for Mýa to stand up. Once she did, she grabbed her bag and followed Zeke off the bus, not before saying 'Have a Good Evening' to the bus driver. Mýa's dad had already told her that it was fine if she stayed with Zeke for a little while. So after they both got off the bus, Mýa followed Zeke into his house.

For a little while Mýa stood to the side, not sure what to do. Zeke noticed and said, "You can put your things here, on the armchair."

He then set his stuff next to hers, before they sat on the couch he grabbed his Spanish classwork and notes and she grabbed her laptop, a pencil, and her notebook. Mýa sat on one end of the couch, and she pulled her legs up and sat in an Indian pose. Zeke sighed once he saw how far away she sat. They were close, but far away at the same time and their relationship had always been like that. He hoped to fix that.

"Alright," Mýa said after she was settled on the couch, breaking the silence. "Can I see the assignments that you have done, and the stuff that you have learned?" Zeke nodded and handed her his notes and worksheet of words and such he will be tested on during the test. He then watched Mýa look over the notes. As she looked over the notes her hair kept falling in her face, after she brushed it away a few times, she started pulling it up into a bun. He watched as she focused on reading the papers as she tried to put her hair in a bun. She even had a slightly frustrated look on her face because she was struggling with her hair tie as she tried to read the notes. Zeke silently chuckled, she looked so cute. When she finally got her hair in a bun, Zeke swallowed. He had never seen her with her hair up in a bun, and she looked so beautiful. Her neck and collarbone was showing and she had a few tendrils of hair loose, he thought she looked so alluring and innocent. He looked away for a second and cleared his throat, when he looked back at her she was looking at him.

Mýa, meanwhile, was very confused. Mýa had been looking over Zeke's notes and Spanish work, but her hair kept getting in her face. She decided to put her hair in a bun so it would stay out of her face. She was struggling to put her hair up, but she got it eventually and was successful in understanding what Zeke was learning about. Then she heard Zeke clear his throat, she looked up to see what he wanted. When she glanced at him he was looking at her with a smirk. "What?" She asked.

Zeke laughed before answering her, "Your hair looks good like that, you should wear that more often."

Mýa blushed, "Thank you, I didn't realize that I haven't worn my hair like this in front of you before."

Mýa slightly frowned and thought for a moment, 'I wear my hair up quite a bit on my own. It is easier when it is out of the way. But I don't really like the way I look with my hair up. I think I look better with my hair down, so I only wear it up in buns or ponytails around my friends, when I feel like it at home, or when I have softball and need to. This is the first time I am wearing it up in front of Zeke.'

Mýa then added, "I just don't wear my hair in a bun or ponytail often. You will probably only see me wearing my hair up if I have softball."

Zeke had been watching her expressions and saw her little frown, he could tell she had been thinking, "Why is that?" He asked.

"I just don't wear my hair up often, I don't think I look very good with it up. I like myself just fine, but I think I look better when my hair is down. And who doesn't want to feel confident the way they are looking in public?" Mýa replied.

Zeke frowned. "That is true," he said, "Everyone likes looking their best and feeling confident, but you look very pretty all the time. Including when your hair is in a bun or ponytail."

Mýa looked away, she did love the way she looked. Unlike many other girls she didn't care about what society thinks of her. She wasn't beautiful according to the beauty standard, but she felt pretty. She just wanted to control her emotions, it didn't help that Zeke said that to her. She wanted the feelings she had for him to go away, not get stronger because he said she was pretty! Darn teen hormones, she was a silly teenager in love and she had never been this far gone. She always did her best to be sensible about these things, but here she is struggling to keep her emotions in check because a boy said she looked 'pretty'.

"Thanks. I feel pretty too, but I still like my hair down." Mýa said, then paused. She looked at him for a split second before looking back at the notes in her hand and saying, "You don't look too bad yourself."

If she looked back up she would have seen Zeke with a huge grin on his face and a smug expression. He thought her reaction was so cute! He was glad that he hadn't seen any other guys make her act like this, he was also glad that she admitted she liked the way he looked. Even though she didn't say it outright, it was implied in his brain.

"Alright, enough of this. Let's get back to studying." Mýa said, to which Zeke agreed.

"Ok, I looked over your notes and I think that you don't need as much help as you think. There are some obvious points we can touch on, but looking at your notes I think I can definitely help you get a good grade." Mýa said.

"Great," Zeke said, "I am pretty good when it comes to paper, at least with the basics, but I am not very good with more difficult words and phrases. I am also not the best at putting them together to make sentences."

"Ok. I think that is still a good start. Did you get any study guides, or do you have any idea what the main points of the assignment are?" Mýa asked.

"Yes, I got a study guide. It has five main points mentioned on it." Zeke answered.

Mýa took the study guide he gave her and looked over it. The test has about six parts, but one was not as important. Zeke would be graded on four important writing grade parts and one part was graded off of a talking portion. Punctuation and Capitalization; this included figuring out the mood of the sentence or word and then making it a question or statement, it also included using the right accents on the letters. Spelling; Making sure the word was spelled correctly and the correct term or meaning for the word(s) was applied. Adjectives, Nouns, and Verbs; there was a page on those three types of words. He would need to determine which word was in what category or find a word from one of those categories for a certain sentence. Numbers and Letters; part of the test had questions about the alphabet or numbers. He might need to write our certain numbers/letters or solve equations. For the speaking part he needed to make sure he used the correct words, pronounced them right, could have a decent conversation Zeke would get to partially control, and would need to be talking well for at least two minutes.

Overall, the assignment was a brief summary of what they had learned throughout the class. Mýa compared past assignments Zeke had given her to the one he was preparing for. She saw he did well with numbers and letters so they could spend less time on that part. He would need to most help on the speaking and capitalization and punctuation parts. She sighed, they had better get to work.
