CHAPTER 14

I forgot to take my key this morning so, I couldn't enter the house. I placed my bag down and sat on the stairs, placing my legs two steps below where I was sitting. I wrapped my hands around my mounted legs and placed my head on top of my knees. After being comfortable, my mind immediately drifted

I jumped as I felt a hand on my shoulders. I looked up and saw my brother staring down at me with worry plastered on his face

"Edward?" I asked

What was he doing here? Wasn't he supposed to be in school?

"What are you doing here? What of school?" I voice out my thoughts

"I should be asking you the same thing. What are you doing here?" he asked and I looked down

"Hey" he lifted my head back up to face him

"Are you okay? Is everything alright?" he asked

*No, I'm not*

"Shannon, what's wrong?" he asked again He was now panicked looking at the tears that were threatening to drop

I couldn't answer, I didn't want to answer. So, I quickly got up, wrapped my hands around him tightly and cried, while soaking in the comfort of my brother

"Hey, it's okay, it's okay" he repeated while stroking my head but, the tears were very disobedient; they didn't listen to me when I told them to stop

Seeing that I was still going to keep on crying, he slightly bent down and curve his other hand around my knees picking me up from the ground. I didn't bother to look up but, I knew he was taking me to my room when he began climbing the stairs. He placed me on my bed and sat beside me, stroking my hair and saying soothing words

After a while, I stopped crying but, we still stayed in that position

"Wanna talk about it?" he asked

I shook my head, not wanting to speak

"Is it about that boy? The mayor's son?"

He was talking about Aiden

I thought, if I wasn't going to tell him, he deserved to at least know. I nodded my head

"That boy is seriously going to need to have a talk with me very soon. Mayor's son or not" Edward said and I couldn't help it, so, I chuckled

After a moment of nothing happening and a deep breathe, I pulled back

"Thanks" I thanked him

"No p., sister. I may not have told you but, I always got your back so, an..... Whoa!" he stopped suddenly as if a gun was being planted in front of him

"What?" I asked scared

"You look hideous. I mean, you always look hideous but, this time, you looked like you could win the most hideous creature in all the planet together. How could you.."

I pushed him off the bed, glaring at him, but, he just laughed, making me to continuously hit him with my pillow

"Hey" he protested, blocking the pillow attack with his hand but, they still made their way to his face

"Get out, get out, get out" I continued saying while still hitting his face

After trying and failing to block the attack of the pillows, he used another approach and successfully took my weapon from my hand. He signed and relaxed as if he just managed to barely survive from a war

"Is that how you thank someone who just gave you his shoulders?" he asked

I scoffed

"Yeah right. If you want to be thanked, act properly till the end" I told him

"Wow" he got up from the floor. He crossed his arms, shaking his head, and I rolled my eyes again

"Come next time and see what happens then" he said

"No need for that. There won't be a next time" I ordered yet begged myself to obey those words

Suddenly serious, he came to sit beside my bed. He tucked my hair behind my ear and hugged me

"Uhm, Edward?" I called a little awkward

"Even if there's a next time, I'll always be here, so, don't worry" he said

Few years fell down from my eyes, and we stayed like that for a while

After a while,, we pulled apart

I groaned

"There's so not going to be a next time. These tears are so not my thing" I said wiping the annoying tears away

"They're nobody's thing, Shannon"

"Actually, there are for some people. Like people who like to be depressed l, and ...."

The remaining words went into the air and he pushed my forehead backward, and I fell back in my bed

"Hey!" I called sitting up and smacked his arm

"Just go to sleep. It's obvious that your brain is on shut down" he said

Unfortunately for me, he was out of the door before the pillow could reach him

*I seriously don't like boys*, I told myself but, as I laid my head down to sleep, a smile formed on my face

"Where's Noah?" I asked Justin when I entered our hangout

"Went out for some food. You know the relationship between him and his foods" he replied

I nodded and sat down

"Hey, we are good, right?" Justin asked after a while

I smiled

"Of course, we are. We are bros" I said and stretched out my hand for a bro shake

"Of course" he said, a smile also on his face, and shook my hand

Just as I relaxed back into the chair, Noah came inside but, he came empty. He had a confused look on his face from the door till when he sat down

"What's up?" I asked him

"Where's your food? I thought you went out to get it. Did you already eat it?" Justin asked

"I don't know" Noah replied

"What are you saying?"

He looked confused for a while before his face brightened up

He snapped his finger

"That's right. I was about to go get some snacks before I saw Shannon"

"Shannon?"

"Yeah, she was walking towards the entrance. I called her but, she just ignored me and continued walking. I think she was also crying" he said

As if automatically, both him and Justin turned to look at me. I looked and them, then signed while resting my head on the chair

"I don't know anything" I groaned

I really didn't. When she said the last statement, I was so confused on what was happening. I wanted to find out who the man was so, I pushed her. I guess I expected her to be angry but, what I definitely didn't expect was the tears that were glistering her eyes when she said it and left immediately, pushing me

Fortunately, none of them said anything else. I rubbed my forehead

"Who's that?" I asked harshly to whosoever it was knocking at my door. I tried ignoring it but, it's annoying and what I didn't right now was peace

My sister came in

"Aiden Parker, I know for sure that wasn't how mom taught you to talk to your older sister" she said

Groaning, I rolled my eyes and laid back on my bed

After some seconds, I was wondering why it was silent. I looked up only to find her smiling at me

"What's with the creepy face?" I asked her

"I guess the dog has finally given the man rabies" she said

I glared at her

"Why are you here again? Don't you have a family waiting for you?" I asked her

"You guys are also my family, aren't you?" she said walking towards my bed, ignoring the 'go away' look I gave her

"Unfortunately" I said quietly but, in a way she could here me

She rolled her eyes

"Don't worry, I'll be gone in a few days so, till then, tolerate me because I'll be up on you" she stated with enthusiasm

I didn't say anything. It was just like that, although she was already married with a kid, she sometimes behaves like she has a mentality less than the one of her five years old

"So.." she nudged me on my stomach

"So what?" I asked as I moved away from her elbow

"The dog and the rabies. How's it?"

"How's what?"

"O come on, I want juice" she said

"Then go downstairs. We should have some in the fridge"

"Aiden!" she complained and smacked my stomach

I smirked and she huffed

"I'm tired, go away" I told her, placing my arm over my eyes

I felt her get up but before she left, she chucked a pillow at me, which I ignored, and left

Refusing to think of anything, I slept off
