CHAPTER 12

"Aiden! Where have you been? You didn't come in last night?" my mom rushed to me and asked with concern
"I don't always sleep here, and you know it. Please, don't overreact" I begged her
I just wanted to go to bed
"I know, but you were nowhere to be found. I called both Noah and Justin's mom but they told me you weren't over"
With a sign, I rubbed my face
"Did something happen? You seem tired and very worn out"
Something did happen. Something drastic
I could tell she was concerned but, I was not in the mood to talk
"I'm tired, mom" I told her
"Oh, of course. Sorry for wasting your time" she apologized
"Now go on and rest. I'll make sure you aren't disturbed"
This is why I love her. She's the only person I treat like a human, because she is more than one
"Thank you" I told her and kissed her cheek before going to my room
Thankfully, she kept her promise, I slept till satisfaction. But before I slept, I had this thought in mind
There's no way I'm doing what I did these last few hours again. To think of even taking care of her till I feel asleep
I scoffed at myself

I was so grateful for the part time job my mom had. Thankfully, because of that, she wasn't at home when Aiden dropped me. The soon to be dropout was also not at home, although a part of me wished he was. I could use his comfort then, and when I am feeling better, send him back out immediately
I had gotten back to my bed when I remembered something
Dang, I still couldn't acquire my English textbook
I pushed that thought aside and slept off
I guess my effort was in vain except to traumatize me, along with giving me unwanted attention I was sure I was going to get now

I groaned as I woke you from my slumber. As a routine, my eyes went to the clock

I yawn, stretching my hands, then it froze. I looked down at myself, then to the clock before I scrambled out of my bed
I couldn't believe myself; it was nearly evening and I hadn't taken a bath
I wore a pair of leggings with a hoodie then went downstairs
"Oh, hey mom. How was it?" I asked her, going to get a bowl of cereals
"It was good and surprisingly not stressful" she replied
I prepared a bowl of cornflakes then sat down beside my mom, letting the cornflakes to soak. My mom looked at it and just shook her head. She has told me several times that that isn't the normal way but, I prefer it just like that
"What are you doing?" I asked her, not really interested, I just didn't want the silence
"I got an email. The results have been posted"
I was now suddenly interested
"For the interview?" I asked peering into her phone
"What does it say?"
She put her phone down and looked at me
"I know I'm excited but, I don't know why you seem to be more than me" she said
I slowly sat back down
"What do you mean?" I asked
Ignoring me, she took a deep breathe and looked at her phone. When her eyes stopped moving, she just stayed still, not moving
"What? What is it? You didn't get the job?" I asked, feeling down
I guess my intentions failed before I even got to construct it
She turned to me, then her still face turned into a smile
"I'm the P.A.. His Personal Assistance" she said
My face adopted a big grin
"Really. Let me see" I said and took the phone from her
I read the perfectly sculptured written words and I looked at her
We were both smiling at ourselves, then I hugged her
Apart from the fact that my scheme is still going to be constructed and activated, I was really happy for my mom. It's like she's having her life gathered together again, after many years
"I'm so happy for you mom" I told her
She stroked my hair
"Thank you, sweetie. I'm also really happy for myself"
I pulled back
"So, you're starting this Monday" I said
"I guess so" she said, now nervous
I stood up
"Let's go" I told her
She looked up at me
"To where?" she asked
"Shopping, of course. There's no single cloth you have with you that has a sense of work. Not to talk of the P.A. of an event planning company' I told her
"But still, shopping"
"Where else are you going to get clothes then? The ground?"
She didn't like shopping. That was something we had in common, but, we have to. Both for her work, and for my scheme
"Okay then, let's go"
She went to get her bag from her room but stopped when she reached the stairs
"I almost forgot' she turned back to me
"A delivery came for you"
"For me?"
"Huh, but, there was no address" she asked
"What was it?"
She titled her head with a knowing look
"Should I have opened it to see what came to you?"
I smiled
"Where is it?"
"On the couch" she said and went upstairs
I walked over it and picked the package. I felt it before I opened it, it was rectangular and thick. I smiled when I opened it, it was my English textbook. I guess he must have carried it along with me, or, he went back for it. However, I was grateful.
"What's it?" my mom asked descending the stairs
"My English textbook"
"You say?" she arched her eyebrows
I put the book down and smiled at her
"Let's go" I told her and she agreed
That was how we spent the rest of the day buying whatever she will need for her work, along with some things I coerced her into buying for me

Monday
First day of the week. A school week
I groaned
Who in the world made school?
I really didn't want to go to school. For various reason. Because of what happened on Friday night, and I just wanted to sleep, and also for other reasons
But I have to, I told myself and got up from my bed, indignantly
My mom was also ready when I got downstairs
"Breakfast?" she asked
"Nah, I'm good"
"Wait" she stopped me at the door
"Let's go together. I'll drop you" she said
I jingled my car keys
"I also have a car, remember?"
She smiled sheepishly
I dropped the keys on the sofa
"But, just for today, I'll give you the honor" I told her
Since it's her first day, I just felt like doing what she wants
She smiled
"Let's go"

"Bye" I greeted her then got out from the car
"Did something happen to your car?" Kim came up beside me as I entered the school
"No, why?"
"Your mom dropped you off"
"It's like a good lick present"
"What do you mean?"
I looked at her an smiled
Automatically, my eyes went to the area where I hit Aiden, there's was no blood there anymore
Thank goodness, and, Thank you, Aiden
"BFG!!" someone shrieked down the hall and Kim pulled me against out lockers before we get stampeded
My stomach tightened on impulse
What's going to happen? I asked myself
I looked at them entering, well, I looked at them but, my gaze was on Aiden
Please, Aiden. I know you hate me, but, please, don't say anything. I'm begging you, I pleaded to him as if he could read my thoughts
Ignoring the people around them, they continued moving, but, Aiden stopped when he got in front of me. Since he stopped, the rest had to stop
He turned to look at me and you could feel the deafening silence. It was pin drop silence, but, my heart was sky diving
Everyone was waiting, waiting to see or hear what was going to unfold while I pleaded to him with my eyes, hoping he would answer
Thankfully, he did. He removed his eyes from me and continued moving
I breathe a sweet sign of relieve while the rest disseminated with murmurs, definitely disappointed
"What was that?" Kim asked in my ears
"Thankfully, it was nothing" I mumbled
