Chapter 6

Tracy got into the elevator and pressed the button for the third floor. While in the elevator, she couldn’t help but think to herself

'Why would a young girl be so distracted to almost get herself ran over by a car'.

Tracy didn’t want to even imagine getting someone killed because that would definitely get her in jail.

She came out of her thoughts as the elevator stopped on the third floor and the door opened. She walked out of the elevator and walked through the hallway, heading for the door with the name tag 'Dr. Steven'.

She opened the door and walked in to see the doctor going through some papers, which perhaps had to do with patients, then she spoke up to gain his attention.

“How’s my favorite cousin in the world doing?”

He looked up to see Tracy.

“Tracy? Wow, you startled me! Why didn’t you call to say you were coming over?”

“Well, aren’t you glad to see me too?” she replied, pretending to feel hurt.

“No, I am. It’s just that it’s really been a long since you came to visit… Well, let’s forget about that. How’s my beautiful cousin doing?”

“As you can see I’m fine. What about you? How’s Stella and my nephew, Ben doing?” she replied, getting herself comfortable on the couch in his office.

“They are both doing great. Stella took Ben to go see her parents, they’d be back by next week.”

“Aww, so you’re all alone.” She teased, making him let out a chuckle

“How’s Richard doing? I hope you two are already planning on starting a family.” He said, making Tracy frown.

“Don’t even start with that talk about having a family. You know how I start to freak out when you talk about it. I don’t want to get fat.”

“Tracy, you have to understand. Richard loves kids and has always had that dream of starting a family with you. He’s just being silent about the whole thing cos he loves you and wouldn’t want to frighten you.” He replied, standing up from his seat and walked over to join Tracy on the couch.

“You have to be considerate and not be selfish about it. Don’t you want me to also have a little nephew to spoil and for Ben to have a cousin he would come play with during the weekends or vacation?” he asked, Tracy let out a sigh.

“I do, but I’m not ready yet and I’m not sure I want to start that with Richard anymore, let me be honest with you..” she confessed, tucking her hair behind her ear.

“ I don’t think I’m still in love with Richard… you know, I always wanted to have him, which now I do, but I don’t think I’m sure of my feelings for him anymore. He always tries to deprive me of my freedom, which you know I love a lot. It’s like I’m being caged in my marriage with him and that not what I want or how I want to be treated.”

Steven sighed, looking at Tracy. He was trying to figure out what he’d say to her without it looking like he’s taking Richard’s side.

“Tracy..” he began,

“I understand what you’re trying to say, but you should also look at things from Richard’s side. He’s only trying to protect you and his image cos he wouldn’t want people spreading false rumors about your marriage. Just think things through and try to help your marriage, not think of breaking it, okay?”

Tracy sighed and nodded before replying,

“Okay, I’ll try. I have to be on my way. I wouldn’t want to keep your patients waiting.” She jokes, as she stood up on her feet.

“Before I forget..” Steven started,

“There’s a patient of mine whose sister has a striking resemblance with you. The first time I saw her, I almost thought she was you, but with the way she acted I quickly knew that she definitely wasn’t you.”

“Oh really!” Tracy exclaimed looking quite surprised.

“Yeah. Poor thing. She’s trying to raise enough money for her younger brother’s surgery, so he doesn’t lose his life.”

“I’m really sorry to hear that. I hope everything goes well with her brother.” Tracy replied, feeling sad about it.

“I’ll come visit some other time, okay? So, don’t be surprised when next I walk through that door.” She jokingly teased.

“I’ll keep that in mind.” Steven replied as he gave Tracy a goodbye hug.
