"I didn't keep things away from you." When Emma glared at him, Danielquickly explained, “I was just waiting for the right time.”

“And when was that? After the conference was over?”

Daniel was about to say something when his phone rang. “Can you see who it is?”

She grabbed the phone from the headboard. She scoffed when she saw the caller ID. “Well, she called at the right time.”

When he saw who it was, he cursed his luck. Without saying anything, he didn’t reach out for the phone and continued driving in silence.

Emma glanced at the watch and frowned. It was almost midnight. Why was Katherine calling him so late?

Did they often share late-night conversations? Did Daniel not answer her call because she was present?

She sighed and closed her eyes. The more she thought about it, the more upset she felt.
