Skai practically sprinted for the building entrance, the second Stephen's car disappeared around the corner. 

Her heart hammered against her ribs as she fumbled with the key, shoving it into the lock and pushed the door open, ready to dive into the safety of her apartment.

But the moment she crossed the threshold, a deep voice from behind stopped her dead in her tracks. "Enjoyed yourself?"

Skai's breath caught in her throat. Her mind, still buzzing from the events of the evening, hadn't processed the idea of Damien waiting for her after the call.

How long had he been there? She pondered.

He stood a few feet back, his broad form casting a shadow that stretched long and menacing across the foyer.

Steeling her nerves, she spun around, her gaze locking with his emerald eyes. "Damien." Her voice was barely a whisper, laced with a tremor of surprise.
