Chapter 10

Annie drove into her compound and met the gates opened. She didn't need a priest to tell her that Williams was back. It was good because they had a lot of talk to do.

Holding Wendy's hand, Annie walked into the house and meet Williams sitting on the couch watching TV.

Williams turned to face Annie but almost immediately went back to the TV. Wendy left her mother's side and ran to meet her father and hugged him. She looked at him with her little eyes and asked,

"Daddy, why didn't you pick me up from school today? you made mommy and aunt Prisca worried".

"Daddy was busy at work".

Williams said which made Wendy look more unhappy.

"Does this mean you love your work more than Wendy?" Wendy asked and pouted her lips as if she was about to cry.

Williams looked briefly at her and replied in a rather reluctant tone, "No".

"That's good". Wendy said and hugged her father again.

"Wendy, go to your room". Annie said and Wendy grumbled as she went upstairs.

Annie looked at Williams who didn't even spare her a little glance. She walked into the kitchen and came out with a jug of orange juice and two empty glass cups.

Carefully, she filled the two empty glass cups with juice from the jug. She dropped a glass beside Williams and took the other one. She sipped from it and watched to see if Williams would too.

"I didn't ask for juice". Williams said still staring at the TV.

"I know. It's a good thing to always serve your husband in any way you can just the same way the man should be able to fulfill all his responsibilities". Annie said and sipped from her juice again.

Williams chuckled and said,

"So you're saying that I've failed in my responsibilities as a husband..."

"No, that's not what I'm saying. You were supposed to pick Wendy up from school. I mean you left work early today so why couldn't you". Annie said.

"I already told you. If you want to take care of Wendy then it's fine but why bother me with it". Williams retorted now looking at Annie.

"Maybe it's because she is your daughter and you have full rights in her welfare just the same way i do". Annie said almost angry. She really didn't know what was exactly wrong with him but she hoped it would stop.

Williams sighed and said,

"This discussion is over". and with that he left leaving Annie confused and in a perplexed state.
