Stealing a Tree: Part III

Yuichi listened attentively to Nol's explanation.

The Sacred Tree wanted to talk to him, to make a pact, or in other words, she wanted his help with a certain "thing".

What was this certain thing?

Nol didn't even know.

It was a very suspicious thing to suddenly ask, Nol thought so too.

For the first time the Sacred Tree showed nervousness about something.

Before coming to Alfheim she and Yuichi had come up with a wonderful plan, but she knew that plan wasn't enough to make her so anxious or fearful.

Yuichi... did you do something to my mother...? Nol wanted to ask that question, but she honestly didn't want the answer.

Nol expected the anger of the Sacred Tree when she commented on her pregnancy, but contrary to her expectations, everything turned out the opposite.

Nol had a complicated relationship with the Sacred Tree, their relationship was mainly based on negative points, but there was some kind of affection in all that, Nol cared for the Sacred Tree in spite of everything, although she also hated her and was disappointed in her.

It was a neoclassical style library.

They were at the entrance of the magnificent and imposing library.

They walked between tall pillars of white marble, passed through the middle of great arches that led into a gigantic room equally ostentatious and glittering.

It seemed that the Sacred Tree loved symmetry to an unhealthy degree.

Yuichi found this wonderful.

After climbing stairs and circling long corridors for more than a minute they found a smaller, warmer room, but crammed with many strange artifacts.

In the midst of all the commotion was the blurry figure of a woman, at least in the past she seemed to have been a beautiful woman.

Yuichi noticed what appeared to be a loving smile as the woman's eyes fell on Nol, but quickly changed when she looked at him.

A dry and cold smile greeted him, it wasn't the best welcome that could be expected but it was much better than Yuichi expected.

Though there was also some wariness in her blurred face, had she realized the danger that threatened to devour her or rather cut her down?

"So... you're Takeda Yuichi? Ehmm~", the woman moved her gaze up and down with her typical judging look.

Why does it feel like I'm meeting my mother-in-law?.... Yuichi had that strange feeling.

"Nice to meet you... mother-in-law," Yuichi smiled innocently, ignoring Nol's strange look.

"...," Nol.

"....", the woman.
