Life Goes On

Two years ago, my friends and I managed to somehow escape our school and sort of a home for us for the past few years without anyone searching, hunting, or extracting us. In a span of just a few days, we lost many friends, we lost our innocence, and most importantly, we lost our home. We were the ones alive after both the Hellviana Elite Exams and the sudden attack at the waiting building.

After escaping, we continued walking on the road for the past three to four weeks. Our supply was limited and there was no further source of resources, so we were hungry all the time. We spent our time chatting, singing along to some of our favorite music, and practicing our special abilities. Enhancing and strengthening it for the possibility of the next battle we face. We also taught ourself hand to hand combat to prepare ourselves once we can't summon our abilities and we have to face our opponents barehanded. For the past few weeks, we were relaxed, happy, and enjoying each other's company, without ever wondering if we're gonna live the day after tomorrow. That all changed once we arrived in the town of Welstborne.

The town of Welstborne was a huge town with many people living in it, even though it's an upcoming city, there wasn't that much traffic and crime. It's a little urban than the town a few drives away from Hellviana's old building before. Their houses were a little modern but not futuristic enough for us to remember the new building of Hellviana and have war flashbacks. The townspeople were actually nice and warm welcoming rather than selfish spiteful people who judge you and your clothes every time you walk past them. Welstborne is a town close to the sea, so you could imagine our excitement when we finally saw an actual body of water that isn't just in our bathrooms or in papers. Due to the town's location, their livelihood was off fishing and neither one of us knows how to fish or to swim except for Layla who can control water and Theo who can use his quirk and float above water. They kept telling me that since I can bend reality, I could just somehow learn how to swim or float but I refrain from using my powers because I was afraid I would create some water demon and destroy the town. Thankfully, the town offers numerous other jobs for us to take.

The world has given us a second chance, and we really took the chance and enjoyed it. Theo became a fisherman who managed to caught a bunch of fishes with the help of his quirk, their whole boat couldn't sustain it, and since the townspeople didn't know about his powers, they considered him a fisherman legend. This gained the attention of many girls in the town, he became their sort of a goal to have and wanted him to be their boyfriend. He loved the fame and attention but his heart belonged to Jessie and no other girl can change his mind about that, although he keeps himself company by flirting with other girls.

On the other hand, Jessie and Colt bought an apartment and lived there together as a couple. Both of them took jobs to earn money but Colt had to take the major ones due to his age and strength, working as a carpenter and delivery man, while Jessie is a part-time waitress, she took a hobby to paint during her spare time. It was fun seeing them happy and seeing Colt taking care of my friend made me like him more than before, he actually becomes a responsible adult and partner by staying away from women, party, and drinking alcohol with women around to lessen Jessie's jealousy, paranoia, and outbursts. Their relationship was more healthy than before and as her friend, I liked that.

James, meanwhile, doesn't enjoy his time in a town near water. I didn't even know he fears the open sea and indoor pools. I guess I should've expected that since a fire's weakness is water but it's a little funny seeing him run away once he sees the sea. Aside from that, James has become a completely different person from the first time I met him. He took a job at a local daycare center and volunteered as a helping hand in the town's veterinary hospital. My heart warms whenever I see him playing with the local kids and petting the animals while smiling. With his handsome looks, charming personality, and kind heart, he instantly became another town, heartthrob second to Theo. Unlike Theo, he's cold to the women who chase after him, turning down every girl that asked him out or confesses to him. He even turned down the mayor's gorgeous daughter. I asked him what was wrong and why he kept on turning down his potential lovers, but he just smiles and changes the topic. He's probably just not interested in relationships yet or he finds the women in the town unattractive, not his type, or just plain boring.

Layla's time in the town of Welstborne was quite interesting. She entered politics and with the help of my reality-bending ability, she became the youngest member of the town council. At the age of nineteen and at the span of just a couple of months since her time at the council, she became the very famous "Iron Queen" of Welstborne which was weird because her ability is water not iron. Layla helped both the poor and rich, everybody loved her equality, fairness, sense of justice, and sense of humor. As per usual when you get famous, many men wanted her as their partner in life but she rejected them all in a heartbeat. She's just like James whenever it comes to relationships, both hated their suitors and both avoided the questions about their love life whenever they're brought up.

Octavia, on the other hand, enjoyed her stay and all of her time as a single woman. She has the most relaxed and chill life here in Welstborne. She took a job as a welder in a steel factory, although she's still young, she managed to get the job with my help again by bending reality, enabling her to take the job and the money without repercussions to her age or to her speed in wielding and bending metal. Her love life might be quiet, that doesn't mean she never had any suitors wanting to take her hand, but she calmly and peacefully turned down her suitors because she was still young and she wasn't ready to date anyone yet.

Lastly, you have me. I wasn't as popular with the girls as James or Theo nor was I popular in the town itself, I really enjoyed my time here in this town. I loved the quiet scenery and catching up on the modern world we were unable to enjoy due to our stay in the hellish Hellviana. I took three jobs in order to gain enough money, a full-time barista, part-time photographer for the local news outlet, and lastly a part-time model. It may be difficult to have one full-time job and two part-time ones, but I prefer this kind of tough rather than the ones at the maze where your life and the lives of others are on thin ice.

In my spare time, I go to the library and read books or go to a cafe and enjoy myself while I read yet another book. If I'm not busy with a book on my face, I often spend my time with my friends but since all of them are quite busy every day I always end up hanging out with either James or Layla most of the time but weirdly we were never hanging out together as three.

I'm really happy that for once in our lives, we were living not as individuals who keep on straining themselves with the burden of having special abilities, but we are living as normal people who so happens to have some advantages in life. I'm incredibly grateful that our life goes on with peace and normality. For now.
