Into The Maze: The First "Prize"

"OH MY GOD! You... You just did that!!" Octavia exclaimed. My friends rushed over towards me and flooded me with questions that I do not have answers to.

"Zion has a quirk." Theo murmured to himself. He later smiles and hugged me tightly.

"MY BESTFRIEND IS AN EXTRAORDINAIRE!!" He rejoiced as he hugged me. All of my friends came in and congratulated me upon discovering the extraordinary abilities that I have been trying to discover for years.

"Uh guys, you might want to check this out." Olivia called out. We all check jogged towards her and looked at what she's seeing.

"What is it, Jess?" I asked. Jessie pointed at the now burn to crisp monster they just killed earlier and see something blinking inside, what looks like, the monster's eye. We all looked at each other, confused as to why there's something blinking inside its eye.

"Okay, which one us is gonna....check in on that monster and its eye, cause no way in heck, am I touching that thing." James quipped. A couple of seconds of silence passed by neither one of us want to even touch the beast's corpse.

"Come on guys! We need to hurry up! Time is ticking and we need to move now or we'll fail this stupid test." Jessie protested. He looked at Theo who was sitting, minding his own business.

"Theo, technically you're the leader and this is the leader's job. So, are you gonna check what's inside this thing or not?" Jessie said. Theo looked at her, his face was covered with confusion and annoyance.

"First of all, tone down that attitude you little spoiled brat. Second of all who told you that I'm the leader of this team? And if I'M the leader, my task is to lead not to sacrifice myself for you to live." Theo snapped, just like before, the wind around us started to change violently as Theo gets mad.

"Oh really? Is this how you settle things? Threatening me with your little wind?" Jessie fumed. The situation was getting out of hand, I looked at Octavia and signal her to stop the two before the situation gets worse. She nodded and started to speak up.

"Guys come, this is not-" Octavia was cut off from speaking when Theo spoke.

"WHAT? Do you really think I'm doing all of this voluntarily? YOU know just like EVERYBODY else that I can't control things whenever I'm angry." Theo huffed, his face was turning red, this is not good. I wanted to do something, I wanted to stop them but I was frozen in place. My legs were stuck on the ground and weren't cooperating with me at all. It was as if someone froze them in place.

"Oh my god, just grow some balls and do it already!!"

"ENOUGH!!" Octavia screamed. The walls around us cracked and started to collapse, Theo and Jessie were silenced as they looked at Octavia who was upset.

"I'll check it out." Octavia said in disappointment. She sighed and walked forward, towards the corpse of the beast. She took out a long piece of metal scrap from the damaged wall and inserted it inside the beast.

"Gross." She gaged, I could hear the beast's internal organs moving whenever Octavia moves the metal scrap. It didn't help that the monster's dead body smells like rotten eggs and burnt flesh combined.

"I think I got it. I'm—I'm gonna pull it out." Octavia announced. We patiently watch as Octavia pulls out the metal scrap. The metal scrap was entangled and inside it was a gadget that blinked maniacally.

"What on earth is that?" Jessie questioned. Theo grabbed a piece of leave from a nearby tree and used the leaf to wipe the gadget clean. Theo gagged at smell of it and the sticky noise it makes upon wiping it clean.

"Guys there's a note clipped on it." James called out from behind. Theo turned the gadget upwards and took the note that was dangling on the gadget.

"What does it says?" I asked.

"You have defeated the Hellvanian Devil Apes, enjoy your prize." Theo read the note.

" Do you no what it does?" Jessie asked Theo who was looking at the square gadget. Theo, then, examined the gadget, turning it side to side to see any clues to find or instructions for the gadget.

"No... but there's a button at its back. Should I press it?" Theo turned the gadget around and let us see the button he was talking about.

"It's the only way right? I mean do you see any other buttons in this electronic?" Octavia questioned Theo.

"Nope, just this one." Theo confirmed.

"Go for it then, we need to get a move on anyways." I said, Theo sighed and for moment hesitated to push the button.

"What if this is like a self destruct button this stupid school implanted in this device? I mean can we really trust them?" He asked. He wasn't wrong, all of us Hellvanians thought that Hellviana For The Elite and Extraordinaires is a safe place for us gifted Elites but when we saw what was in that basement door, all of our trust and respect to this school was thrown out of the window. Why would they kill kids? Why would they do that to our fellow Hellvanian Elites?

"I don't think that the school would stoop that low, Theo. I know we're not deciding to trust the school but I think we need to trust them this time." Jessie said.

"Okay, but just this once. I'm still not trusting this school afterwards." Theo rolled his eyes as he slowly pushed the button on the gadget.

In a matter of seconds, the gadget violently shakes. Theo threw it on the ground, scared that it might endanger him and us.

"I knew I should've not pressed that button!" He exclaimed. We slowly backed away from the vibrating gadget and seconds later, a golden light erupted out of it and into the skies above. Dark clouds was immediately formed, we all watch the skies above.

"Hey look, more lights." James pointed at the direction of the lights, I counted at least ten of them, all of them erupting from different sides of the maze. Are these the other Hellvanians that successfully killed a monster?

"Guys look at that." Octavia announced, we all looked at the direction she is pointing.

"Holy sh-" There, at the west side of the skies, was a huge monitor. The monitor showed us the final the remaining Hellvanians. I was devastated to see that out of 121 Hellvanian Elites and Extraordinaires, the remaining Hellvanians on the test, possibly alive are only 19.

"These motherfu—" Theo wasn't able to finish talking when a voice overlap him.

"Congratulations Hellvanians, you have successfully completed the first part of the maze test. The second test will begin shortly, but first you must have to find the location of the second test. Goodluck my dear Hellvanians. We Will Be Watching." Our principal explained through what must be hidden speakers around this maze. We all looked at each other, realising that the Hellvanian Elite Exams has so many more tricks up in its sleeve and we're just at the tip of the iceberg.

"Let's go. Remind me to avenge the fallen." Theo said as he walked. He was clenching his fist and it bled, but somehow the wind is not mirroring his anger.

We followed him shortly after and silently walk as Octavia dictates us the correct path.
