11 The Mansion

After moving in Julius decided to explore the mansion though its basic layout was already known to him through the wards' connection to him.

Despite its dark and slightly spooky appearance outwards it was elegant and comfortable inside the mansion with the dominant colours for some reason being white and red despite it being black and red outwards.

Also as Julius immediately noticed as he entered the mansion; it was all clean and well maintained. Despite the presence of the house elf Julius had already partly expected something run-down like in the Black's house after Sirius returned from Azkaban.

But even the fireplaces placed in the mansion at regular intervals were already lit and made it feel warm as well as giving it even more of a comfortable feeling.

After walking through most of the above-ground part of the mansion Julius came to a big two-winged door made completely from some sort of black metal.

'This should be the place where all of the knowledge about death magic should be stored, after all this is the only place I can't feel even now, or at least the only one I've found until now.

I would be pretty confused now if George didn't tell me about it when I asked him if there was a library in this place and he told me the only place similar would probably be the place where the knowledge about my family's unique magic is located.

Though he couldn't tell me anything more than that the doors are made of black metal, apparently only members of the family are able to enter this place, makes sense if you think what lies here. Well anyways I need to remember coming back here again later so for now I guess I will continue my search for this elf in the basement.'

Even though Julius also wanted to familiarise himself with his new home, even though he already knew the layout that was just exactly that and not actually being familiar with how everything actually was furnished etc, just like when you know the blueprints for a place but haven't visited it yet, his main objective was still finding the house elf hidden somewhere in this mansion as he could for some reason not feel his location, only his connection to the wards of the mansion but he seemed to cloak his actual location.

'Maybe this is actually something like with Kreacher and the elf just doesn't like me? I should probably let him go then, lest something like with this particular example will happen else. I don't want to have to make sure there are no loopholes to exploit in every single one of my commands and still fear a betrayal at all times,'

After having completely checked the above-ground part of the mansion Julius finally went down the spiral staircase to the basement of the mansion, containing mainly the dungeons and a torture chamber.

'Not really surprising considering the fact that the Abraxus family was still a pureblood family and one of the powerful ones at that, not like those Weaslys, however they became this poor.

What concerns me much more though is what a house elf might be doing down there. Well let's just see, he can't hurt me after all as I am still his master.'

It seemed he had indeed not overlooked the elf before as Julius found him in a cell shortly after, though he still couldn't understand why the house elf would go here.

If the house elf wanted to hide he could have just apparated away after all whenever Julius got close to him.

'Wait! How could I have been this stupid? I could have just called his name the whole time, he probably locked himself in here so the special wards of the cell prevents him from apparating, therefore disabling this possibility completely, probably in the hope I wouldn't check inside the dungeons, and it would also explain why I couldn't locate him despite him being in the mansion! The more I think about it the more stupid I feel for not considering this before, it all makes sense now.'

While Julius was still occupied his inner monologue the house elf noticed that he had been found and stood up revealing clean but worn out looking clothing which looked to be of great quality.

„G-go away whoever you are! Theo will never serve a thief like you! Just you wait the real heir of the Abraxus family will come when he becomes an old enough to claim the mansion and then he will take it back and you will.get your deserved punishment!"

After being momentarily stunned by the agitation of the little creature before him Julius finally realised why the elf had locked himself up here: It thought because he was so early despite a normal child not having a magic core at this age he must be an imposter, having somehow tricked the grimoire and wards into believing him an Abraxus.

'That makes this at least a bit easier.'

Julius was extremely relieved by this, after all it meant that he would gain a loyal follower if he just convinced the little elf that he was the actual heir.

"I think there is a misunderstanding here Theo, I am the Abraxus family's heir. I am already here because I managed to awaken my magic core much earlier and George is also here, he should be able to confirm my claims too. You just have to step out of this cell and check it with George, he should be just above us right now. And if you still don't trust me maybe this will help a bit: My name is Julius Aurelius Abraxus. Not many should know of this name right? The Abraxus was never revealing very much about them to the public, especially not the names of family members to young to go to public events and deal with this pit of snakes the pureblood families of Magical Britain are."

After Julius finished speaking the house elf hesitatingly left the cell, holding the greatest distance possible between him and Julius and immediately apparating away after the last part of his body went over the doorstep of the cell, leaving Julius alone in the dark and cold basement with only the echo of the crack the apparition produced.
