Chapter 28- Bar Brawl

The auction didn't have anything exciting and there were only slightly rare items but not anything extremely special. The manager informed Maxwell that there was a special item at the end and that it would most certainly impress him. 2 of Maxwell's crafted spatial rings were auctioned off at a high price.

Finally, the special item appeared. The announcer built up the excitement of the audience and revealed it. It was a brilliant white egg that slowly turned light green towards the bottom. It was covered in giant snake-like scales, and it was much larger than a person's head.

"This egg is, in fact the egg of a snake with the blood of a dragon. The purity of its bloodline is unknown, and it can be discovered once it hatches. It has a dual affinity for wind and wood which gives it a versatile role to play."

The price jumped immediately to 1000 Earth Grade Spirit Stones which was higher than the budget for most of the regular bidders in the common area.

Maxwell let the bids continue and the price soon reached 9000 Earth Grade Spirit Stones. He then joined in the bidding and raised the price to 10000, sparking outrage from Hamilton who would have started hurling curses and threats at Maxwell if he hadn't been restrained by his companions.

Nobody increased the bid any further as Maxwell had offered an extremely steep price for a beast of non-guaranteed bloodline strength. He was fine with offering such a high price as he felt that the egg contained an actual dragon, similar to the one in his dantian. Maxwell didn't need to pay anything as he was paying through the treasure pavilion, and he was instead given Spirit Stones for the sales of his spatial rings.

He quietly left to eat a peaceful lunch, but at the front door he was stopped by Hamilton who noticed him.

"It's you! Stop there, don't think for once that I forgot about you from that day."

"What? You're going to gang up on me again? Don't tell me that you're such a coward. That too in front of all these people. You are really shameless."

"You're the one who ran away like a coward."

"Why would I stay and fight 3 Core Formation cultivators? I'm not stupid."

The manager started walking towards the commotion and Hamilton noticed this and left, not wishing to be banned from the treasure pavilion.

"Next time I won't let you go." He declared before marching away pompously.

Maxwell headed the other way to find a place to fill his empty stomach. He went to a bar where he could gain information from the network he had set up with Leonidas. He covered his face and entered the bar before sitting on the bar stool in front of the main counter with the bartender. He asked for a drink, which was the code word that allowed him to prove his identity. The bartender went to the back in the guise of bringing out the ingredients needed for the drink. He sat there waiting and he was approached by three pushy men. They were already slightly intoxicated when they approached him. Their breath stank of alcohol.

"You look like a kid, what are you doing here? They don't serve milk." His friends laughed loudly at that statement as if it was the funniest statement that they had heard in a very long time.

"Get us some drinks, we can entertain you."

After no response from Maxwell, they left disgruntled. The door was smacked open and made a large noise after hitting the wall. Inside walked a group of 10 gangsters with mean weapons and scars. Everyone in the bar were ruffians like them so they tried to reduce their presence to not get targeted. Thankfully for them, they were ignored, and the group went straight to Maxwell.

The one in front put his giant hand on Maxwell's shoulders and grabbed it tightly.

"Oi kid, you angered someone you shouldn't have."

The one grabbing Maxwell's shoulders started applying more pressure. Maxwell grabbed him by his wide arms and threw him above his shoulders onto the wooden counter. The counter shattered, spraying chips of wood everywhere with the weight of the man. The man lay groaning and incapacitated with his arm dislocated. His strength shocked everyone as he looked like he had built no muscles. Another gang member angrily barreled at him and he was knocked out cold with a kick to his shin that knocked him off balance and then with a quick jab to his jaw.

The leader with a bear pelt coat ordered them to all charge at him. Maxwell smashed the strong glasses that lay in front of him into the eyes of one and then hit the other with the barstool, sending him flying. He hit a loose floorboard straight onto the face of one. He was grabbed by a man with a bear like grip who tried to throw Maxwell over him. Maxwell kicked the other one who ran at him using this opportunity, dislocating his jaw. He kicked the person grabbing him with his heel straight into his crotch, leaving him howling in pain. He dropped Maxwell and received a roundhouse kick on his ribs, causing a rib to pierce his lungs.

They had all been using qi and their terrible techniques but they couldn't last against Maxwell. The one he hit with the barstool used his legs to kick Maxwell, only to get blocked. Another 2 charged at him with sharp metal knuckles. Maxwell tried using his spatial ring to get his spear, only to be knocked to the ground by someone from the side that he had previously hit with a floorboard. Maxwell hit a table and his head started bleeding.

'Shit, he caught me off guard.'

He was then grabbed in a chokehold while the 2 men with metal knuckles advanced to attack him. He used his space qi to move a barrel of beer above him and it feel onto the head of the man choking him. He got up coughing and brought out his spear. Warm blood dripped down the side of his head.

He knocked out the person behind him with the butt of his spear. He used the momentum of the fist to redirect the punch thrown at him into the path of the other punch. The fist of the second hit the arm of the first and left a deep wound. The man had a good will and they continued to attack Maxwell from 2 different sides. The leader, seeing his men get hurt stepped in, wielding a large golden blunt mace. He swung it rather quickly for its size at Maxwell's skull. Maxwell jumped out of the way and it struck the wooden floors, leaving a hole.

Maxwell quickly took out the 2 fist fighters with a hard blow to their head after transferring himself behind them. Their leader grew more enraged and continued to swing the mace at Maxwell. He quickly drove Maxwell to a corner and swung at him. Maxwell had no choice but to block.

'I can't use space qi anymore just in case assassins show up.'

Maxwell slid back by a meter after the blow hit his spear. The leader started grinning as if he had it planned and started attacking faster. He kicked Maxwell's spear with tremendous force and then swung his mace. It was heading straight for Maxwell's head. Maxwell couldn't block it with his spear in time so he left his spear and grabbed it with his hands. The impact nearly broke every bone in his hand and arm. His shoulder nearly dislocated itself and it hurt immensely.

Maxwell held the mace and pulled it away from the wielder. It got free quite easily as he wasn't expecting Maxwell to react so fast. It fell and Maxwell grabbed his spear that lay on the side. He cut off one of the gang leader's arms and then interrogated him.

"Who sent you?"

"Someone very powerful and influential."

"Tell me or I'll cut your other arm. If you're lucky you might be able to get your arm back."

After considering his choices, he realized he valued his life more than keeping his honor.

"It was the son of the Roaring Dragon Sect leader. He paid us a large sum to get rid of you."

'As expected.'

"What happened here?" The bartender shouted in alarm.

"There were some unruly people. You can take the repair costs from them."

All the people in the bar had watched the fight in amazement; some had even made small bets among themselves as it played out.

The bartender handed Maxwell a small note sneakily and Maxwell left behind the damaged bar. He opened the note in an empty area and it contained the meeting location for the information. He was supposed to receive the information in the evening on the roof of a secluded building. Maxwell called Arion to explore the city with him and they wandered through the streets.
