"Hey, why do you think others' runes don't work like spells like ours?" Warden asked, as June ended her training in elementary runes. "I think it's because they don't have a fatemark or a fate domain to draw power from."

It probably wasn't drawing raw power, but some special kind of connection that made it possible to have such results. 

"It could be," June said, though she wasn't sure. "Or it could be because of our lineage. Those are the only things we have in common or unique. Honestly, I have never seen anyone using runes like you did. But my experience of the world is not vast enough to conclude anything."
