Chapter Seventeen

When I opened my eyes my head felt fuzzy with memories and I was confused but I got up and saw everyone chatting while outside was pouring. "Oh, Its raining.." I was expecting someone to call me captain obvious but no one did so I grabbed an energy drink from the fridge and stared outside at the calming scenery. "You all seem so down, what did I miss?" I asked in confusion and everyone stopped and almost spit their drinks out, "do you have amnesia?" Haro looked at me with a generally confused look which made me feel stupid. "Haro!" Willow started to rant a lot of scolding type things, she was definitely qualified to be the mother of the group even if she was just a year or two older than us. "Yesterday was Haro's birthday and then I went to bed." I stated not caring to explain more, "yesterday was the snowstorm and Lux's brothers disappearance, Kyra. Are you feeling alright?" Willow asked as she snatched my energy drink and looked at the ingredients but I took it back and persuaded her away. "I'm just fine, thank you." I sigh before walking over to Lux's room and seeing them looking out the window in boredom with a dull face. "Lux.." I sighed before sitting on their bed, "I'm fine, I am.. not.. a baby. I can handle my brother's disappearance" she scoffed holding back tears. Lux's glossy eyes were visible and easy to tell.

"we can go out and look for him! and-- you wouldn't be a baby, grieving for someone is a normal thing. we all have feeling's and that's just a fact if you're a human. Regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or.. anything, so, you're human.. right?" I smiled hoping for that to cheer them up a bit more. "I know you're trying to cheer me up, thank you.. but no thanks." Lux stood up and ran their finger along a gun before picking it up and walking over to the door, they paused for a moment. leaning against the doorway they looked over.

"are you coming or what, you gonna be a sitting duck?" Lux smirked and I smiled quickly hopping to my feet and grabbing my baseball bat eager to help. As we dashed to the door full of energy, Blizzard came over and nudged my leg whimpering. "Hey Lux, we want a guard dog?" I asked picking up Blizzard and making puppy eyes meanwhile Lux laughed before nodding and getting into the car eagerly, the coldness of the wind pricked my skin and made me feel as if I could get frostbite since we hadn't had that type of weather in so long, blood rushed to my cheeks and hands as I opened the car door and sat down shutting it swiftly. Blizzard sat in the back meanwhile we drove on the slightly cracked pavement till eventually we saw a warehouse and decided to check it out.

"Ash..? ya in here bud?" I asked swinging my bat at a zombie before stepping on it harshly hearing a last screech in response. "Ash!" Lux shouted walking around to hear a slight creak but when they found out it was only a zombie they snatched my bat and whacked it roughly, clearly violently annoyed and frustrated. "Lux, we will find him.. please relax." I tried to comfort him but they started to tear up before storming off to the car, leaving me to quickly be able to check out the rest and then head back when finding nothing.

we drove slowly and calmly looking out for anything and everything. it started to get dark, "Let's head back. we can continue tomorrow." I sighed but Lux shook their head and gave me a deadly look, letting me know I practically had no choice but to continue driving. we came across a older road that seemed more worn down, we then saw a house with an abandoned playground in the back so we decided to look over the fence, only to see a bunch of child zombie's dashing to the fence and knocking it over on top of us. "Ah!" Lux gasped shooting the zombies on top of her and coming near meanwhile I had my baseball bat holding the one over me away at a safe distance. I hit the zombie away before scurrying up to my feet while pushing the fence away with a thump to the floor, we knew that if someone was in that house they would have died and considering there was a few older timed houses that looked as if they would collapse.

we stayed silent before driving for another few hours. it was about midnight which made us very obvious with headlights so we parked and started to slowly walk up to a nearby Target, a zombie was laying on top of the red ball attached to the floor so it was a easy shot. As we walked up to the entrance. surprisingly the entrance still worked, the door's opened and Lux went their separate way. I looked over at the normal starbucks to the left, " Zombie's in the kitchen.." I mumbled the customer exchange and return area was empty so I started to crawl across the small little isle area after getting up I dashed across the isle's towards the fitting room/men's clothing area, I then ventured towards the children area to the electronic area being as quiet as possible. Zombie snarls were growing louder, now who can blame me for wanting to check. as I came across a book isle in the back of electronics since I was quite the reader I quickly browsed the cool book topics and picked a few that peaked my interest. As I murmured intriguing books I could read all day was cut off by a book I dropped, new sounds were now piercing my ear louder with footsteps and even louder snarl's. I looked over the shelves and Lux grabbed my arm pulling harshly to drag me along in the run while holding ash, their little brother. A whole pile of Zombies, some limping, falling, and crawling, some leaping meanwhile others just trying to keep up were right on our tale. Lux didn't loosen their grip 'till we got out the store, flung the door's open and started to run over a few zombie's in attempt to leave with their newly found and rescued little friend.
