When she put her mind to it, Soo-Ah could be diligent and an overachiever in her studies, something her grandfather's tutoring skills embedded deep: a willingness to learn.

Sister Iseul had nothing to complain about Soo-Ah's performance while teaching her proper conduct with the noble patrons, the gracious dance moves, or a couple of songs from her repertoire. By chance, she found Soo-Ah was gifted musically. 

Since Iseul was a skilled Guqin player she insisted her new companion learn to play as well. It would take years to learn to play properly, learning music theory and the notes with all their details. So Iseul simply taught her to play by heart and planned to teach her the entire musical theory with time.
