1 Chapter 1 - Introduction
Hi guys!!!! Want to say a very big thank you for giving me and this story a chance. I sure hope that you won't be disappointed.
Preface: Unedited. Mr &Mrs Baker had a beautiful family with three lovely girls, Felicia, May and Audrey. The only challenge in this family that other family members saw was not having a male child. Mrs Baker wanted to please her in-laws but what could she do about the sex of the baby especially when she got pregnant again. The Baker's family had tragedies occurring shortly after the baby boy turned two, this family who believed in God greatly might go astray due to the tragedies.

Audrey was rushing down the stairs while the family which included her parents, her two elder sisters and of course her grumpy old grand mother were seated at the dining table by six to have breakfast. Although the tradition of the family demanded that a family have a male child but Audrey's family didn't have one, Audrey's grandma wanted to reject Audrey after her birth but couldn't because she said Audrey was too cute to be rejected. However, Audrey's grandma was still mad because of the unfulfillment of the tradition. Audrey and her family lived in Nigeria, Africa where people still had high views about traditions maybe not all but most people did. Audrey's father, Mr Michael Baker was a Pharmacist while Mrs Mary Baker was a banker and still ran a boutique where people flocked in every now and then to buy clothes(both male, female and unisex), perfumes,spray,deodorants, shoes, bags etc. Audrey's elder sisters Felicia and May were 22 and 20 respectively. Felicia had graduated from a university in Lagos state with a bachelor's degree in business administration and had a first class and was already working on her Master's degree, while May was still in the university studying Theatre and Media Arts.
"Can you please walk down the stairs, Audrey?" Mrs Baker half yelled.
"I'm sorry mom, I just couldn't help myself" Audrey apologized and walked briskly down to the living room and pulled a seat and sat down.
Mrs Baker poured out tea into everyone's mug and then went into the kitchen and brought with her 5 serving plates including hers and gave everyone a serving plate then dropped hers on the table where she sat beside her mug while everyone reached out to the loaf of bread on the dining table and took 3 slice each and chewing. It was silent until Audrey stood up and said she was off to school ( she was in her last year in high school ) and then ran out of the living room with her backpack to meet the driver who was going to drop her at school. In the Baker's home, the silence continued for about five minutes before Mrs Baker broke it again after she was done eating the slices of bread.
" Everyone, I have great news" Mrs Baker said and immediately put on a fake smile which Mr Baker saw through.
" What's it sweetheart?" Mr Baker was more enthusiastic to know what made his wife unhappy though everyone else though it was a great news actually because of that smile which was fake.
" You got a promotion at work" Felicia guessed first and dropped the other half of her last slice on her plate
"No"
"You sold more at the boutique in the last couple of days" May guessed and smiled hoping she was right.
"No" Mrs Baker said and May's smile fell through at once.
"Umm.... You finally opened another boutique. Mom, how could you do that without us?" May said with a pout.
"No, baby. I would never do that to you all" Mrs Baker shook her head, thinking how uncreative May was.
" Well, you might as well tell us" Mr Baker asked.
"There's going to be another addition to the family" Mrs Baker declared with the smile all gone.
" As expected of you, it had better not be a girl this time or else you would leave" Audrey's grandma threatened.
"Mom!!" Mr Baker called out loudly, still sitting down on his chair.
"What son? Just reminding her of the real problem this home is yet to solve and the expectations I have of her" Grandma resorted angrily and folded both arms.
" Mom, I will say this again. If you pursue this matter again, you might as well leave my house because my wife goes no where. Mom, for Pete's sake, you are educated and you know who determines the paternity of a child, why must you place all the blame on my wife? Do not ruin my day and this good news please" Mr Baker stood up from his seat and went to his wife's seat which was opposite his while Mrs Baker lowered her face all through the altercation between her husband and his mother while Felicia and May who were also seated, stood up and said they were leaving with their handbags on their shoulders and congratulated their parents with a peck on their cheeks.
"Fine, I will just hold my peace and go to my room. Congratulations anyways, I don't want to be an eyesore in the family" Audrey's grandma said and walked cautiously up the stairs.
" Am sorry, darling" Mr Baker apologized on his mother's behalf
" It's fine darling. I hope it's a son so that I can stop being the reason why you quarrel with Mother" Mrs Baker said and smiled slowly.
" I don't care about its gender, it's our child regardless and never let mother get to you" Mr Baer pleaded, hoping his wife listens to him
"Sure, I will try." Mrs Baker promised while Mr Baker pecked her forehead
" Now that we're done with the altercation, can we focus on celebrating this news?" He continued.
"Yes darling, can we go to that eatery I told you about before?"Mrs Baker asked with a pout
"Sure, anything for you and my baby. You are still cute, you haven't aged any bit" Mr Baker smiled
" Umm... At forty, you're pulling my legs Michael" Mrs Baker stood up and placed her arms on Mr Baker's neck and smiled also.
"At all.... Maybe not as cute as you were when we were courting but you sure are still cute. Can we leave now? Have to be at the hospital by 12pm" Mr Baker said and Mrs Baker put her arms down.
Mrs Baker frowned a bit" Thought you had to be at the hospital by 9am" She asked seriously
"Sam is covering for me" Mr Baker told his wife and her frown ceased.
"That means we can go but I have to be at the company by 11am" Mrs Baker told him
"Sure... That means I show up early. You still have a way of making things right" Mr Baker said as he held her right hand. " I know" Mrs Baker said and giggled while they walked out of their home together and got into their car, Mr Baker drove to the eatery.
