39 Chapter 39: A Breakthrough

"They control everything Kai!!" Skye is trying hard to convince Kai that she is doing a good thing after she gets caught. Her hair is messy. She has puffy eyes and deep eye bags as she didn't sleep for a few days. She joined a hacker group a while back. 

She's not very good yet, but when the news of the monster fight is quickly being deleted from the media and Internet, she, who has been following the incident, quickly notices an intervention from some background organization. 

"I know that, but that doesn't give you the right to hack into a government server! What if you get caught?" Kai, although hypocritical as his main body already hacked everything, wants her to at least finish high school first before entering this sort of world.

He notices her sadness after he says that. She had another intention to do this, which is to find her history and her family. 

"(sigh) If you want to learn, I could teach you more advanced stuff than what you may learn at the hacker group. If they have a Web trail in the first place, they are not a very good organization." 

Her face gleams up. Skye notices that there is a but coming. "But you have to wait until you're an adult before you want to hack into servers. You are now my responsibility Skye. I won't ask you not to learn, but I will not ratify you either." he puts his foot down. 

Skye doesn't know that she had tea with a member of the group she wants to find at least once a month. Coulson will come by when he has time, basically to get some drinks. He knows as he reads the agent's mind because he is curious. The guy just came by to steal his liquor, not even monitoring or anything. 

"You could teach me?" Skye is skeptical. How does this man have time to become a trained person, a doctor, an inventor, a chef, and now even a hacker? Is it possible for someone to master all of these things?

"Yes, I could. I could also hack into every member of your hacker group and send their location to the police if you keep contacting them." 

Hearing Kai's threat, Skye knew she had no option but to comply. Kai patted the little rascal's head. "Now go take a bath, you should shower more. You stink and even have a 'Cheeto' in your hair." 

Skye, who didn't take care of her hygiene for a few days, becomes embarrassed. She is too busy trying to uncover the truth! She brushed off his hand and then ran away to her room. While she was walking away, Kai thought in his mind." She reminded me of the guy with the weird hair that talks about aliens". 

Kai has a day off today, as per his agreement with his kid to take days off frequently from the clinic. He decided to bake some cupcakes in many different flavors. Some could be eaten today while the rest could be saved for later. He browses the news while eating cupcakes and drinking coffee in front of the TV. 

Ryan apps got some notice when the incident was over. The news is covering the incident, but it's disguised as a gas line explosion. 

"I got a notification to evacuate, so I ran away, but my friend didn't, now he's very injured while I am unscathed." A random black man interview is played on the TV. There is coverage about the incident for a few minutes when it happens, but Shield quickly gets to work and changes the story. 

The disaster alert app is highly praised as people thought it saved a lot of lives. Shield has to reroute the public attention somewhere. What's more interesting than a billionaire celebrity? Ryan then got some unnecessary publicity. Some media started to ambush him again." How the hell did they know my itinerary?" It's puzzling for him. He'll know later that it's Stark who leaks it. 

*Pssh* He takes out a blood sample from the cryo freezer in his room. He has been analyzing Hulk's blood and the antidote Dr. Stern made for the green man after the incident.

" Something is interesting about Hulk's cells. Also, the antidote should prevent the cell from proliferating and cures the gamma radiation." He's looking at the samples under an electron microscope. 

"The anti-proliferating part is good. But Hulk's self-healing ability is too strong and makes it impossible to inhibit the cells." He guesses Stern must include this to fight the transformation of Banner to Hulk. 

"What do you find?" He asks his friend in the chat group. [TheDoctor]  comes to a similar conclusion as him.

Hydra: Could the anti-proliferation be used on other cells?

TheDoctor: Maybe, we need to test it more. 

KickBaal: Nerd! 

There are multiple equations that he's been calculating for a few days. Stacks of paper are towering on his desk study. Ryan doesn't realize that after the incident, he becomes much more active. Gwen sees this and is very glad for him. 

"What are you working on?" Gwen asked him. He is busy with some calculation and cell observation using a microscope when Gwen walks in. He gave the paper to Gwen for her to read. Meanwhile, he asked her for some opinions. 

"If a cancer cell's proliferation is inhibited, it will become a benign tumor right?"

"Theoretically it will, but to inhibit it in the first place is troubling." Gwen did this research before, it didn't have very much prospect in it. She became very absorbed when reading the paper Ryan gave, then excited, and then shocked, and then both excited and shocked at the same time!!! 

"This??!!" She wanted more confirmation. Her eyes moved away from him and the paper a few times as she couldn't stop reading, but she also wanted an explanation. Ryan smiles and says "It still need a lot more research, but theoretically it can be the inhibitor specially targeted for cancer cell"

"You know what these means don't you? Cancer will become non-fatal after this" Gwen is very excited that her voice becomes very high pitched. "It's still not a cure though," Ryan said calmly. The patient will be dependent on the coming drug for them to survive instead of being completely free from the disease. Like heart medicine or blood pressure medicine. The good thing is they won't feel pain anymore. They need to take it daily to ensure it. 

Gwen smacks his head with the paper in annoyance. "Be more proud! You're going to save a lot of lives". Honestly, her boyfriend is just awesome. He's not doing anything for a while then he suddenly dropped a bomb after working a few days?

She guesses that maybe he has been working on it a while but just got a breakthrough, still. "He's extremely hot when he's like this." she thought in her heart. 

"You are going to work with me on this right?" He's rubbing the place that has been smacked. He expected they would work together again, but. He needs to check the effect of chemotherapy on it and a lot of other variables. 

"No," Gwen said surprisingly. "I have my research on several immune diseases that are on the verge of a breakthrough". She explains herself when she sees Ryan's face which looks like he's been struck by thunder. 

She also has an ulterior motive for this. Ryan has been pushing her to the front all the time they did research together, but she thought that a brilliant man like him shouldn't be so recluse. 

She's going to tell Hiddle what Ryan did so that he can't escape. "The work he did is mainly done, just like the tree serum before this. It just needed testing. Based on ALBUS calculations, the new drug has a 99% chance of success." She isn't going to let him blow off work this time. 

Ryan is in deep thought, "Who should I push to the front to take the heat for me? " Gwen is smirking beside him as she can guess what he's thinking. 

He didn't know at this time he'd already been pitted by Gwen and Hiddle. Even his father came and buried him even deeper. Short of grabbing his collar and dragging him to the company laboratory, the butler will ensure his involvement in the research.

The drug quickly entered clinical studies where it can test the drug on humans. He's sure that in the Marvel world, someone may find the cure for cancer. But right now, there isn't one yet.  

His father is already one of the most influential men in the country when he follows Ryan's planning. This time, he didn't have to get Osborn or Stark's help. The clinical trial goes smoothly even if there are many, many,... many attempts at sabotage and industrial espionage during the clinical trial, but all of them are foiled with ALBUS monitoring the lab. 

Some even try to kidnap him, or worse, kidnap Gwen, but all of them don't live to see another day. Even Rand Pharmaceutical sent some ninja to steal the drug and kill him. But the ninja is gone without a trace in the world. He didn't even need to move.

 A special force under Bryan Mills, who is enhanced by the gene potion is enough to take care of the problem. Bryan, who is once Ryan's bodyguard, now becomes the Head of security of the Knights industry. With him guarding the gate, even an ant needed ID to walk into the company. 

" Will I market the drug first? Or will Stark be kidnapped first?". He is very stressed so he hacked into Stark's email and sent him a picture of him photoshopped with Stark's head coming out of his ass. 

A rivalry has been going on between them since they first met. They don't hack into each other's servers to get sensitive information, but instead petty pranks. This is his revenge when he knows that Starks is the one who leaked his itinerary to the reporter after the Hulk incident. He wants to do more but he's very busy now. 

In a mansion in Malibu. "Sir, someone hacked into your email and sent a picture," JARVIS informed Tony. "What picture?" Stark, who is also busy working on the Jericho missiles, took the time to check out what was sent. He was a little mad when he saw the picture. Then he guffawed loudly.

"Should we trace the source, sir?" 

 "No need, I know who sent it," Stark says after calming down. "This is milder than I thought? JARVIS, what's the Knight kid doing now?" 

"Sir, He is managing clinical research for a new drug". 

"He did it himself? It's unlike him" Stark knows that the brat doesn't like to work with people, their prank has been going back and forth for a while, so people might say that they are pseudo-friends. 

"There's a high chance he is forced into it," JARVIS said. "There is a high chance of that". 

He thought for a while and then decided to withhold the next prank. It's not fun if the opponent's hands are tied. Not only that they prank each other, but every time they do that, it'll reveal a flaw in their system, so they can fix it next time. "Send my condolences to ALBUS and a basket of chocolate to him. Makes sure to buy a card for a 3-year-old for him too"

Of course, Stark already knows about Albus. Their AI's evolution has relied on each other. Stark could upgrade JARVIS a few times when fighting ALBUS. Of course, he also won a few times. Ryan didn't use the hornet version of ALBUS, rather the one he created on his own. Stark's genius makes him quickly digest his knowledge when fighting him. "Although Stark is still a d*ck." 

The efforts on the new drug are jointly ventured across parallel universes, where he and [TheDoctor] work together to create it. They have been using personal chat to discuss the drug effects. His partner lives in a post-apocalyptic world where there aren't a lot of humans left, so clinical work is done solely by Ryan. 

He also makes something using the Hulk's blood. A greenish-yellow potion is completed and he holds the bottle in the palm of his hand. "The power is a little lowered, but at the very least people who use this won't be ugly like abomination, but look like the hulk. I don't know what color though." 

He tries to make his serum from his research on the blood, at the very least, the risk of dying has fallen." It is at 60% now instead of the previous 90%.People with strong will can manage.. I think". He didn't know what to do with the serum after this. 

"I am stopping Stern because I don't want an army of Hulk. So why the hell would I want to create my own?" It isn't even clear to him why he does this. "Let's sell it all in the marketplace. I'll put the prefix 'Defective product' on it as it's very high risk." He does this mainly to satisfy his curiosity. Now that it's been filled, he tosses it aside like a common prostitute. 

Hydra: Hey @GreenWitch, I will give you a quest for the blood samples. Or do you want to buy it? 

Greenwich: Quest of course. But be nice to me, will you? 

Holding the blood samples in his hand, he enters the quest section of the trading site. This is the first quest he's giving. It's a direct quest, so he can easily do it. 

Quest : [HydraIsABitch] wants to research the samples of other intelligent creatures. Provide him with at least 3 different samples. 

Rewards: 300 ml pure Hulk blood. 

The bottle in his hand disappeared when he finished it. The quest will be easy for GreenWitch as her kingdom is fighting with demons. Curious, he tries to enter the public quest section. "What the fuc.." Countless numbers of universes are shown to him. It's very hard to find specific ones. "That's why people in the public section mainly give out general quests. They are too lazy to find the universe they want"

He's scrolling around the panels before Hiddle walks into his room unexpectedly. "Young man, you should be at work right now". 

"Wait Hiddle, I am working. From home, but I am still working."

"I don't want to hear excuses." Hiddle grabs his rebellious young master. He is dragged to the company. "Nooo!" A long scream resounded in the house, and it fades away slowly.

Side story 3.

In a certain universe. The world has been at war. 10 years ago, the demons invaded the planet Gaia, home to various creatures such as the orc, elves, dragons, lizardmen, and so on. They come through the crack among the dimension, devouring everything in their path. Kingdoms fall, the Lizardman becomes extinct, and the last remnant of Gaia has to ally themselves together to survive the attack and fight back against the intruder. 3 years passed, and their situation becomes worse instead. 

"My king, the team is waiting for you."  A female Knight that has a grotesque scar on her face signals the King. On her knees, the blond female Knight that used to be the Goddess of the human kingdom Yule is waiting for the young man in front of her. 

Before this, the king is only a Baron, an incompetent one. But after he falls ill and survives, he changes into a different person entirely. That was 6 months ago. He had no choice but to take over the command of the kingdom when the previous king betrays Gaia's people and sides with the demons after he kills all the nobility with a red banquet. 

Luke Callahan, a transmigrator with the ITS system, is solemn. 'The enemy is preparing for the last assault. If I don't do this, all of Gaia will perish.' He decided something with a heavy heart. But it's the only choice he has left. For the people to survive. 

"Every day, we will welcome new corpses to our field. Those who were once our family and friends, become food for the demons instead. Vultures surround the castle, waiting to pick the flesh and blood of the ones who returned from the battle and still left." He comes down from the throne, and approaches the female Knight." My love, don't kneel to me, not ever. I don't deserve it"

The female Knight becomes angry. "If there's anyone in this world who deserves it, it's you."Tears start to fall. Luke crouches over and wipes the tears from her beautiful eyes. He kisses her one last time, leaving her sobbing inside the hall. She holds her stomach carrying the child of the king." I will wait for you, my love "

"Julia, I hope I can meet you again, and still be myself at the same time," he said while he walks to the barracks. A team of 10, mixed with Orc and Elves are waiting there for him. 

Without a word, his suicide squad and he rides together to the frontline, where the battle is ongoing. "KYAA HAHAHA. SURRENDER NOW, MORTALS! MAYBE WE CAN LET YOU BECOME OUR SLAVES INSTEAD" The demon is taunting the soldiers. The previous King, who sided with the demons, is now reduced to a slave, getting whipped while he is holding a demon nobility palanquin. 

An army of 100,000 demons, with Dragons that are enslaved by them, is preparing to attack the army of 1000 allied forces. 

The soldiers' morale is crushed. Their hands shivered as they were walking to certain death. "There's no point in fighting now. It's all meaningless" 

At this moment, the King and his squad arrive at the battlefield. Luke said something to the soldiers, his voice resounded to the entire army. 

"Ahh, I finally understand Erwins speech now." As he stands before the seemingly desolate situation, he said to the soldiers. 

"Everything that you thought had meaning: every hope, dream, or moment of happiness. None of it matters as you lie bleeding out on the battlefield" 

His squad is shocked. The orc wants to stop him, but it is blocked by the elf with a 'let him finish gesture. 

"None of it changes what the demons do to a body, we all die. But does that mean our lives are meaningless?" He turns to look at the faces of the soldiers. 

"Does that mean that there was no point in our being born? Would you say that of our slain comrades? What about their lives? Were they meaningless?" 

The king and the squad walk to the frontline, facing the demons. Luke shouts. 

"... They were not! Their memory serves as an example to us all! The courageous fallen! The anguished fallen! Their lives have meaning because we the living refuse to forget them! And as we ride to certain death, we trust our successors to do the same for us!"

He takes the lead to fight. 

" BECAUSE my soldiers do not buckle or yield when faced with the cruelty of this world! MY SOLDIERS PUSH FORWARD! MY SOLDIERS SCREAM OUT ! "

He drinks the greenish-yellow potion in his hand. The defective portion that'll turn him into a monster. All his suicide squad also drink the potion in their hands. 

His body turns into a monstrosity. So does his squad." MY SOLDIER'S RAAAAAGE!"

Hulking figures appear on the battlefield with incredible strength. The demons are scared. "ROARR!" A thunderous roar resonated throughout the kingdom. All the vultures fly away in fear. The horn for the counterattack is sounded. Now, it's time for the demons to meet the monster!

3 days later, Luke wakes up in a sea of corpses. His body is full of blood, but it's not his. He takes a look at his body. "I'm back!" He didn't expect this! He had returned to his previous form! He can feel the other raging monster inside of him, that he can unleash anytime he wants. With his realization, tears follow
