24 I'm not your wife!

It was too late to look away. It was too late to hide how mesmerized I had been, just gazing upon Jordan. He had seen everything.

Jordan kept his eyes on me, with a knowing smile on his face, as he walked to sit on the lounger by the pool. I did not dare look at him, as I could still feel his eyes on me.

"Anax, you are here." Ma Nana said to him.

"Yes Maîa. Good morning." Jordan replied.

As ma Nana replied to his greeting, I made the mistake of thinking that Jordan would be looking at Ma Nana, since he was talking to her, and I seized the chance to look up. But I was startled when I met Jordan's intense gaze, fixed on me. The smirk on his face broadened, and I was forced to look away again.

"Maîa, I see that you are taking good care of my June." Jordan drawled.

"Ah, yes anax. I am taking our June on touring through the house. I show her all she need to see and to know too. She having good time just with me." Ma Nana replied, then she continued to speak in pure greek.

"Thank you, Maîa, for taking care of my June." Jordan said to ma Nana, then he said to me. "Are you enjoying the tour, June moù?"

The way he said the last bit, it sounded like it was supposed to be an endearment, but to me, it sounded like mockery. I ignored his question, as if I had not heard him.

"Your husband want to know if you like my touring." Ma Nana urged me, brushing her shoulders against mine gently.

I glared down at the small, stout, old lady. I wanted to yell at her and ask her to stop addressing me as Jordan's wife, or him as my husband. But she looked so pleasant, smiling innocently as she looked up at me. I couldn't believe that she really thought Jordan and I were both properly or even happily married. Couldn't she sense it? She was a woman like me, couldn't she see it in my eyes that I was unhappy? She was even blushing a little!

"Don't be shy, talk to him." She insisted. She was so naive, I didn't want to break her heart. It wasn't her fault after all, none of this concerned her. She was just an employee who knew very little of her bosses real interests and intentions. So I just said instead.

"I did not understand what he said. He should speak in English if he wants me to understand."

Ma Nana looked confused for a moment, looking between Jordan and I.

"But he speaks English." She said. "He speak it all English. June moù? He mean 'my June', that all."

"I did not understand." I insisted, and ma Nana looked even more confused.

Jordan let out a throaty laugh, and I turned to glare at him. It only made him laugh even more.

Just then, we heard a cat squeal nearby, and we all turned to see a gray and white furred cat, struggling to keep afloat in the pool.

"Is that cat blind, or does it just like to get on my nerves at every chance?" Jordan asked, glaring at ma Nana.

"Ah, master Nickolas! Oh my heart, this cat will be my death!" Ma Nana cried as she ran over to get the cat out of water. She spoke a string of words in greek, and I instinctively knew she was cursing, as she carried the wet and struggling cat away.

Left alone together, an awkward silence stretched between Jordan and I. His eyes remained fixed on me, I knew this because I could still feel his eyes boring into me.

"Did you have a lovely night?" Jordan asked finally.

"Not your business." I immediately fired at him, without even processing what he had said. I didn't care to hear what he had to say, I just didn't want to talk to him at all.

Jordan chuckled softly.

"For someone who acted like she really hates this island, you slept in quite late. Did you enjoy the peace and serenity so much that you overslept?" He asked again.

"Once again, it is none of your business!" I repeated.

"I'll take it that you are happy and quite satisfied with the place. You know, your happiness is my priority, June moù." He said, but I remained quiet. Then he continued. "As often said, a happy wife is..." He began to say, but I interrupted him.

"I am not your wife!" I said through clenched teeth, folding my fist and looking up into his eyes finally. "I am not your wife, I have never been your wife and I will never be your wife! You get that in your head and let the rest know! Tell your staff that I am just a stranger here, I will not be addressed as your wife anymore! You can tell them that I am a new maid, a slave, anything! I don't care! Just not your wife. I would rather live the rest of my life as a slave, than spend a day as your wife! Never." I ranted.

Jordan kept looking at me with amusement in his eyes. He didn't seem bothered by all I had to say. Actually, it looked like I was entertaining him. He seemed to be enjoying himself.

When I was done, Jordan let out a loud and cheerful laugh. He looked so happy, I wanted to smack him across his face. After a moment, he stopped laughing and looked at me.

"But you ARE, my wife." He said with a forced smile. "Why? You want a divorce already? I'm not billionaire enough for you? Or is it the lack of control that scares you?" He asked me.

"Just let me go you bastard!" I cried in frustration. Jordan chuckled softly again.

"Oh, but I can't. I love you too much to let you go, June moù. I'm sorry, but you'll have to stay here and accept my love."

I looked at Jordan in frustration and disbelief. He stared back at me with an unrepentant smirk on his face. Just then, ma Nana came back, cradling the now relaxed feline in her arms.

"Please, ma Nana, take me away from here. I am becoming sick." I said to the old lady without taking my eyes off Jordan.

"Oh, kallos, are you tired? We can go back to the house and continue another time. We will go see the beach when you well enough." Ma Nana said, trying to feel me up.

"No, please. Take me to the sea now! I would like to drown." I said.

"What?" The old lady cried in shock and confusion.

I began to leave first, seeing that ma Nana was not moving, and as I walked away, I heard Jordan mutter something to ma Nana in greek.

"Sure anax!" Ma Nana replied, then I heard her footsteps hurrying behind me.
