1 Our world

Life is not always so rosy...whoever said life is a bed full of roses must have had something else in mind. That was definitely not the case for Amanda. First child to Mr and Mrs George Wilde, and of course, eldest among five other children, life couldn't be more difficult. Her siblings were very naughty and troublesome, not forgetting the fact that they were all boys. Her mother gave birth to her then after 7years began giving birth to her siblings. Nevertheless she loved them and cherished them with all she had. Her father was a secretary in one of the big companies at the time while her mother was a teacher in an elementary school. Life was actually beautiful back then, they had almost all they could dream of as children, including Amanda but to her it was not sufficient. Her father's strenuous job always took him away from his family, so Amanda and her siblings knew little or nothing about their father. Amanda felt it the more since she never had a good conversation with her dad, neither was he ever present when she celebrated her birthday or had an event in her school. Her father was a complete stranger to her. She tried her best to make sure that her siblings don't feel this emptiness she felt because of her dad, therefore right from a very Young age she began playing the role of a father to her siblings. On some occasions, her father would come in very late in the night and would not even bother to check on his children. He will just go straight to bed and that's that. Whenever he returned late at night, Amanda will peep through her slightly closed door and see her father speaking quietly to her mother and telling her "it will wait till tomorrow morning, I'm very tired right now". Amanda's little mind most have made her understand that her mum was trying to convince her dad to go see his children before going to bed. After peeping, Amanda will just return to her bed and sob quietly dying slowly on the inside from the lack of affection her own father portrayed. This went on and on till Amanda murdered her father in her mind. To her she had no father.

Mrs Gwen Wilde was Amanda's mum and she knew how her husband's careless attitude affected her children especially Amanda but there was nothing she could do about it. She had tried talking to her husband but Mr George remained adamant and saw nothing wrong with his attitude. All was well so far as he could provide the needs of his family. He practically handed over every other need of the children which had nothing to do with finance over to his wife. With time, even mrs Gwen began feeling distant from her husband. The late nights increased and he sometimes came back home drunk, tattered and was always very loud, probably still under the influence of whatsoever he took. Ten years later, Mr George passed on. He died and never had the opportunity to make amends with his family. To Amanda, she was not surprised because she knew she had declared him 'dead' a long time ago so she had moved on. She actually shed some tears when she saw how sad her mum was at her father's funeral and when it downed on her that she was to assist her mother in order to fend for the family. Hot tears slowly fell from her small eyes, and rolled down to her cheek, with her face still void of expression. Her innocent heart had been hardened towards the 'male' gender.
