Unexpected boon

The block of ice landed on my hand which sent a nice feeling though out my arm.

"Ok, now use the confundus spell that same way that they used it in the study," I said while clutching the ice firmly with my hand. Hermione nodded and cast the confundus on me, soon the seemingly refreshing feeling went away and in its stead an immense amount of heat, so hot it felt cold for a split second before I dropped it with a low grunt.

I stared at my hand which was now blistering and swelling up. Hermione freaked out when she saw my hand.

"I'm sorry Tom, I didn't know it would be this effective," she said apologetically.

"it's fine, I'll get madame Pomfrey to fix me up," I waved her off with my other hand. We made our way to the infirmary where I got treated, my hand was good as new in a couple of minutes. The power of magic never ceased to amaze me. We soon arrived back at the classroom, where we sat at the desk next to each other.

"That worked very well, now all that's left is to brew the potion and cast Cunfundus on each other. The pain of the confundus spell might be too much for us to bear, and if we need to take a potion while going through that amount of pain, we will pass out before we can successfully drink it. I suggest we add the need to drink the potion to the confundus spell in order to make sure we can move our body's while under the effect of the spell," I added.

Hermione nodded heavily, "I hope it's not too bad," she said worriedly.

"It will most likely be incredibly painful, but you will probably faint pretty soon after the confundus takes effect. Naturally, you can't use occlumency since confundus wouldn't be as effective or even work at all," I added.

Hermione who was reminded of this nodded in acknowledgement.

The rest of the day went by quickly, spell training like usual, dinner in the great hall before going to sleep. Naturally, Harry went to see the Mirror again, he had dragged Ron with him after I came back from showing Hermione the day before. Dumbledore will be hiding the mirror on the 3rd floor soon since he had accomplished his goal of showing Harry the function of the mirror.

The night went by calmly as usual, and a new day arrived. We arrived at the great hall for breakfast before meeting the Weasley twins in the common room where they handed me the ingredients for, the potion. After making sure that everything was in order, and it was all there I nodded at the twins before walking towards the classroom where Hermione was getting everything ready.

I walked in and handed the ingredients to Hermione who speared them in a table we made bigger using transfiguration. One thing that I found interesting was that the law of conservation of mass didn't apply to the magical world. Theoretically, if good enough, a wizard could turn a handkerchief into a castle at any time. It was puzzling and didn't make sense from a scientific point of view, if you look at the magical world from a scientific point of view, you'll find that half of the things here didn't make sense.

Hermione was soon done with the potion, and it was already and separated into two equally filled cups. Steam could be seen coming from the top of the cup as a green gooey like substance could be seen from the cup. They couldn't have made it look better, could they? I complained before putting mine on the table. Hermione followed my example and we soon sat opposite each other.

"Ready, we'll cast the spell that the same time quickly and clearly, make sure you don't forget any of the details," I said seriously. Hermione nodded equally as serious as she pulled out her wand. We aimed the wands at each other and lowered our occlumency protection to nothing before launching them.

Soon the spells landed successfully, and we both said the said phrase before finishing. I felt an intense pain that escalated from a slightly uncomfortable feeling to a searing pain that spread all over my body. I was able to just able to hold in by gritting my teeth, but Hermione wasn't able to and was losing consciousness. But her body moved towards the cup that was across from her and drank it before falling unconscious. I wanted to just do the same, but I held on since this was a rare opportunity to temper my resistance to pain before I took on Drak's trial.

I sat there as the pain increased more and more until I felt like my muscles were melting. The spasmed and twitched uncontrollably, I struggled to hold on before finally breaking and fell to the floor, I took the potion earlier which meant it was fine to faint at any time. I made one last push before the pain became too much for my body and I finally lost consciousness.

After an unknown amount of time, I woke up only to be blinded by the artificial light coming from the roof of the room. "W-Where am I?" I asked.

"Stay still, you scared me half to death Tom, you were out for the whole day. I woke up a couple of hours ago," said the voice that was behind me. She held me down as I attempted to get up, it was oddly comfortable. Was I on a couch? I asked myself as I moved my head to look around.

I was indeed on a couch, probably Hermione's transfiguration at work, but my head didn't seem to be on the couch. I looked up to see Hermione's slightly flushed face, I seemed to be resting my head on her lap.

"You didn't take advantage of me while I was asleep, did you?" I asked teasingly only to get a hard slap to the head. It stung as I attempted to rub it only to feel terrible pain run up my arm. It seems that the confundus was still under effect but lighter. I instantly started to use occlumency and the pain faded like it was all a dream.

"Don't make such joke's Tom, you were unresponsive for a very long time, I got scared something went wrong," she said seriously with a frown. I saw how concerned she was and smiled before nodding.

"Thank you for taking care of me, I appreciated it," I said with a warm smile, Hermione seemed to be content with my answer and raised her hand to read the book she was holding with her spare hand. I continued to lay there gently with my head in her lap while I talked to Drak.

'Drak, what happened to my body, how were the effects?' I asked curiously.

[Well, I can say that it was magnificent, much better than what that girl received. It seems that enduring the pain has some extra benefits, it seems that the brain released some kind of chemical when put under so much pain. Simply put, you are better than before by a good margin, you seem to have visibly grown a good five centimetres which is odd. And I took the time to infuse my magic power into your body while it was going through the process of absorbing the potion. You should be able to use more of my strength smoothly,] he summed up.

I noticed it only after he mentioned it, I did feel the presence of magic in the atmosphere much clearer than before, I can also absorb more magic power which would be helpful in increasing the strength of my spells. As for strength, I felt it course through my body like a torrent of water. It was pleasant. Overall, it was a success beyond the expected result. We even had a month of increased regeneration given by the potion which will boost the effectiveness of our training.
