20 [1989 Pt.12]

A|N:  Alchemy, Warding and Curse-Breaking will be explored deeply in my fic just like all other forms of magic that I can think of.

I had a bit of a writer's block since writing the mechanics behind a piece of magic like Ward making is the best part about Harry Potter for me but there are so many ways to go about when writing magic that it becomes draining.

I still hope you like the chapter and can drop powerstones so that I can get a bit higher on the power rankings at least better than the badly translated Chinese novels.

Casting protective charms on places was very similar to casting enchantments on an object- one just had to put his wand in the direction of the place they wanted to enchant and then start casting charms of their choice.

The problem with such protective enchantments was that anybody could come with their wands and try to poke into the loopholes of the wards without having to overpower them making their existence moot.

Nathan had drawn inspiration from the idea of the wardstones from the fiction of his previous life along with the anti-tampering charms placed on brooms and other charmed objects and anti-detection charms placed on cursed objects to try to create something like the traditional branch of warding from popular media.

Nathan pointed his wand at the diamond that he planned to use as a wardstone before saying in a clear voice, "Nexum."

A thin thread of crimson light erupted from the tip of his wand and wrapped itself around the diamond. Nathan smiled as he pointed in the direction he had planted the aspen seeds and said, "Nexum."

Another thread erupted from his wand and hit the artificial boundary Nathan had made and covered it in crimson light.

Nathan finally pointed to the cliff's edge and cast one final Nexum on it making the cliff's edge light up in a crimson light creating a perfect boundary between Nathan and the rest of Hogwarts in all directions.

"Coniunge," The crimson light coming from the diamond, the boundary and the three threads suddenly turned violet before dimming and fading away. Nathan grinned as he felt the connection that the combination of Nexum and Coniunge charm created between the boundaries of the sanctuary he was creating.

"Let us see whether my alchemical and ritualistic venture really paid off or not," saying this Nathan picked up the diamond from the ground and as soon as Nathan picked up the newly minted wardstone, he could sense all the magic that his new sanctuary held. Nathan had expected that the feeling would be overwhelming, but to his surprise, the headache had prepared himself for never came.

Nathan could feel the three connections between the wardstone, the cliff's edge, the land where he planned the seeds and Nathan's own wand.

The wardstone felt like the centre from which the three connections had been extended. Nathan also felt the two alchemical bestowals and the blood ritual he had performed take effect. Nathan could see symbols that had not been there before he finished the final phase of his plan, slowly glowing a light silver colour.

The symbol was the symbol of the Wind element which Nathan had used to bestow the aspect of communication on the diamond. Nathan tilted his hand back and forth and he could see the other elemental symbol of Earth element on the metal. The diamond had undergone another bestowal that added the aspect of protection to it and when it finally joined together with the boundary and connection spells, the pieces finally fell in place and the bestowals and protective enchantments worked seamlessly together to create a perfect observation system within Nathan's Sanctuary as long as he held the diamond.

There were still some problems with his new wardstone. If it was destroyed physically, the wards would collapse, but seeing as anybody would have to first tear down the enchantments of the sanctuary to get to the wardstone, it did not really matter.

But it also had many advantages, like how Nathan could now cast new enchantments on the diamond and they would be transmitted to everything it was connected to immediately.

Deciding to test his theory, Nathan pointed his wand at the diamond and said, "Recuso Deductius."

Recuso Deductius, was an anti-deduction spell created by a probably long-dead Hogwarts student planning to use it as an anti-tampering spell.

The boy was very competent at Arithmancy and used tricks that Nathan had to admit he hadn't thought of while noting down the Syncograph's calculations.

The spell was the best charm Nathan had that could be used to prevent someone from understanding or sensing what the enchantments placed on the Sanctuary were or how they worked.

Nathan smiled in happiness and excitement as he felt the charm settle around himself before he focused again to say, "Fallux Malum."

The elusive evil charm was a charm that was used by dark wizards to hide the traces of dark magic that lingered in the area after it had been cast.

"This should be enough for now," As he said this, Nathan checked the Marauder's Map and sighed in relief when he saw nobody on it in his general vicinity. It seemed like nobody had detected his casting of protective enchantments on the cliff.

The trees would grow to his preferred height by the time he returned next year and Nathan could use runes to enhance the performance of his wards even more.

Overall, his trip to the Sanctuary was very fruitful as not only had Nathan created a small personal space free from the presence of his dormmates, but he had also begun a new branch of enchantment magic that he knew had massive potential when it came to property security.

After all, Nathan was now capable of creating a ward that could detect all magic that existed within its boundary while being very resilient against the use of normal detection and tampering by curse-breakers. He believed that a wizard would have to overpower the ward directly when some cast actual protective enchantments upon the wardstone.

A|N: Did you know that there was no mention of warding in canon Harry Potter?

The blood ritual was there to key the diamond to Nathan's blood, of any of you are wondering what the blood ritual was for.
