Chapter 67: Helping Centaurs

Following the trail, Alaric hadn't gone far when he heard the roar of a dragon, the clattering of horse hooves, as well as voices speaking in some strange language.

It seemed like the new battleground for Centaur and the young dragon.

He quickened his pace, and soon the real battlefield unfolded before his eyes.

It was a clearing in the woods—no, it wasn't originally a clearing, but the intense fight and the scorching breath of the dragon had destroyed the trees, creating a battlefield.

At the center of the battlefield was a semi-large dragon, about four to five meters long.

Its body was covered in glossy black and sturdy scales, with sharp spine ridges on its back already formed. Its long wings, when gently flapped, created a gust of wind.

This was Norbert, but now it was several times larger than a week ago, no longer resembling the deformed appearance of a young dragon.

Surrounding it were a group of strange creatures, about ten of them.

Their upper bodies were human, with red hair and beards, but their lower bodies were shining reddish-brown horse bodies, with long red tails trailing behind.

They were bare-skinned, wearing only some ornaments woven from grass and wood, holding spears or bows, relentlessly attacking the dragon.

They seemed to have the upper hand, but their attacks couldn't penetrate the dragon's sturdy scales.

Unlike Norbert, who was unharmed despite being surrounded, it had caused some casualties among the Centaurs.

Utilizing its flying advantage, Norbert repeatedly took off and dived, each dive posing a significant threat to the Centaurs.

Whether it was its dragon breath or sharp teeth, the Centaurs couldn't withstand them.

Its continuously flapping wings effectively disrupted the Centaurs' arrows, making it impossible for them to damage the relatively fragile wing membranes.

Coupled with its scales, the Centaurs were essentially helpless.

Alaric noticed among the Centaurs, there was a tall and strong figure, the leader, wielding a short bow and giving continuous commands—he was probably the leader of the Centaurs.

The dragon also understood this and cunningly launched several attacks on the leader, all of which he skillfully dodged.

Unfortunately, during one of the dodges, the leader lost his footing and fell.

Centaurs, like horses, couldn't quickly get up once they fell, and the dragon seized the opportunity to launch another attack.

Seeing the tragedy about to unfold, at this moment, Alaric decisively intervened.

He used the Disillusionment Charm, pointing his wand at the dragon, and cast a Conjunctivitis Curse.

Although dragon scales possessed powerful magical resistance, their eyes were their weakness, and the Conjunctivitis Curse was the most effective spell against dragons.

A white light shot out from the tip of the Spellweaver, his wand, instantly hitting the dragon's eye.

The diving dragon emitted a piercing roar, and its flight trajectory became erratic—it had lost its sight and couldn't find direction—ultimately crashing into a tree not far from the centaur leader, shattering branches that even hit him.

All the centaurs were stunned by this unexpected turn of events, and they immediately noticed the revealed figure of Alaric.

A centaur rushed to the leader's side, helping him up. The centaur leader looked at Alaric and nodded in a friendly manner.

"Thank you for your help, boy."

Alaric also greeted the centaur leader and then turned towards the direction of the dragon.

Norbert, struggling, finally managed to get up. However, judging by its contorted posture, it was clear that the impact had been severe.

At this moment, Alaric's Conjunctivitis Curse still hadn't worn off.

The dragon, deprived of its vision, remained motionless, relying on its sense of smell to track its opponents. It then spewed a burst of dragon breath in their direction.

"Get out of the way!"

The centaur leader shouted, swiftly dodging. This time, he spoke in English rather than the centaur language, seemingly reminding Alaric.

However, Alaric calmly stood in place, pointing the Spellweaver towards the direction of the flames.

"Aguamenti."

He loudly pronounced the Water-Making Charm, but this time, he exerted full force.

Instead of a gentle stream, a massive torrent erupted from the wand's tip, colliding with the dragon breath.

The two clashed, creating a hissing sound, and a white-hot water vapor instantly enveloped the battlefield, separating the dragon and its adversaries.

"You are a powerful wizard, young man." The centaur leader appeared beside Alaric, looking at him with a complex expression, praising him.

"Thank you for your help"

"You're welcome, but save the praise until after the battle is over," Alaric responded calmly, then gently tapped his wand.

"Whirlwind Sweep."

Immediately, a gust of wind blew from his direction, quickly dispersing the white water vapor, clearing the battlefield once again.

The dragon in front of them had begun to attempt to flap its wings. It seemed that its eyes had returned to normal.

Dragons indeed had natural and powerful magical resistance.

Alaric envied this but did not waste time. Instead of casting another spell on the dragon, he aimed at the bushes next to it.

The branches of the bushes immediately transformed into chains, firmly entangling the dragon that was preparing to take off.

The dragon struggled desperately, and the hastily transformed chains were almost breaking. Surface cracks appeared.

"Now is the time. Attack its wings!" Alaric shouted to the centaur leader.

The experienced tribe leader immediately understood, speaking in the centaur language. The centaurs promptly shot arrows at the dragon's wings.

Most arrows did not pierce the dragon's wing membranes, but a few powerful arrows, including the one shot by the centaur leader, successfully penetrated.

Yet, before the centaurs could launch another volley, Norbert broke free from all the chains and immediately vigorously flapped its wings, soaring into the sky.

"What now? It's about to take off again." The centaur leader looked at Alaric

"What should we do? It's about to take off again." The centaur leader looked at Alaric with concern, speaking in English this time, as if reminding him.

He added, looking a little guilty: "Our bows and arrows are too weak, so we can't help much."

"No, you've helped a lot," Alaric shook his head, revealing a cunning smile.

He accurately used Transfiguration on the arrows stuck in the wing membranes, turning them into heavy chain balls that flew through the air.

Norbert lost balance instantly, crashing forcefully to the ground, raising a cloud of dust.

"Oh, that was quite a hard fall," Alaric raised an eyebrow, waving his wand to disperse the dust, then walked forward.

This time, the dragon couldn't get up. It seemed that the fall had likely broken its legs.

It strained to lift its head, attempting to bite Alaric, but a white light flashed from Alaric's side, hitting the dragon's head.

Its massive head seemed to be struck by a heavy hammer, falling heavily to the ground.

The centaurs took a closer look and saw a white cat sitting on the head of the dragon, licking its paws gracefully.

"Chief, I sense powerful magic; this is a magical creature." A young centaur with platinum hair and blue eyes approached, speaking to the centaur leader.

The centaur leader nodded, his opinion of Alaric rising a bit more.

"Thank you, Himari," Alaric smiled at the white cat, then casually picked up a tree branch from the ground.

With a point of the Spellweaver the branch immediately transformed into a sharp sword.

He swung the sword over his head and aimed it at the dragon's neck, slashing with force.

Dragon blood splattered everywhere as the dragon's neck was severed into two pieces.

The dragon trembled horribly for a while before it died completely.

Alaric had achieved the title of "Dragon Slayer." And thus, it was accomplished.
