42 Chapter 42: Levitation Charm and Contradictions

"Oh, who did this?" Professor Flitwick asked loudly, but it was clear he wasn't angry.

"It was me, Professor," in the crowd, Alaric raised his hand. "I thought it was just a joke. Obviously, this is a genius spell, much more complex than the Levitation Charm."

He cast a Vanishing Spell, making the buffalo, which was about to charge at the podium, disappear instantly in the classroom. Then, he cast a Reappearing Spell, and the tables and chairs, which had been messed up by the buffalo's charge, instantly returned to their original state.

"Excellent spell," Professor Flitwick nodded appreciatively. "Although it sounds like a joke, the Buffalo Curse itself is indeed a remarkable spell. But we won't discuss that now."

He clapped his hands, announcing the start of the practice.

The scene became chaotic for a while. Harry Potter and Seamus Finnigan, in their attempts, performed the flick and swish repeatedly, but the feather that should have been lifted remained motionless on the floor.

In frustration, Seamus poked the feather with his wand, causing it to catch fire. Harry had to use his hat to extinguish the flames.

On another table, Ron's luck didn't seem to improve.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" he shouted loudly, waving his arms like windmills.

"You said it wrong," Hermione said bluntly beside him.

Guided by Alaric, she succeeded after only two attempts. When she saw Ron clumsily trying, she couldn't help but offer her guidance as a self-proclaimed expert.

"It's Win-gar-di-um Le-vi-o-sa. You have to say the 'gar' part long and clear."

"Since you're so clever, why don't you try it?" Ron roared.

Rolling up her sleeves, Hermione waved her wand, saying, "Wingardium Leviosa!"

The feather rose from the table, hovering about four feet above Hermione's head.

However, Ron's reaction to Hermione's guidance was quite sarcastic:

"Oh, dear 'Know-It-All' Miss, why don't you stay with your equally brilliant boyfriend?"

Hermione's face turned black on the spot.

After class, Alaric walked into the library with his books, but Hermione didn't follow.

He thought Hermione had her own business and left—she had done this more than once—so Alaric didn't investigate further.

...

On the eve of Halloween, the Great Hall of Hogwarts was redecorated.

When Alaric entered the dining hall in the evening, he was greeted by a colorful array of Halloween decorations.

A thousand bats fluttered on the walls and ceiling, while another thousand formed a low, dark cloud hovering and dancing above the dining tables, causing the candles in the pumpkins to flicker.

Delicious dishes suddenly appeared on golden plates, just like the feast on the opening day of school.

Alaric didn't eagerly enjoy the food like other young wizards. He walked around the long tables, asking everyone if they had seen Hermione with hungry Himari following behind him.

However, everyone said they hadn't seen her. Only Lisa Turpin, a Ravenclaw girl, mentioned that she had seen Hermione near the entrance to the restroom corridor.

Hearing this, Alaric immediately thought of the plot in the original book—Hermione encountered the troll in that corridor.

Even though Hermione, under his guidance, was much stronger than in the original story, she still wasn't a match for a troll—at least with her current magical power and spell proficiency, she had no way to deal with a troll's magical resistance.

Alaric immediately ran out of the dining hall. However, halfway there, he suddenly saw Professor Quirrell rushing into the hall. His large scarf was crooked on his head, and his face was full of terrified expressions.

Everyone stared at him, and he walked to Professor Dumbledore's chair, leaning on the table with a gasp, saying, "Troll—in the underground chamber—thought you should know."

After saying that, he collapsed to the floor, unconscious.

The hall immediately became chaotic. Professor Dumbledore had to use his wand to produce several loud explosions of fireworks on top of his head before everyone quieted down.

"Prefects," he said in a low voice, "lead your students to their dormitories immediately!"

On Ravenclaw's side, Penelope calmly gathered the small eagles and had them line up, leading them towards the tower. Only Alaric, who silently left, didn't follow, and nobody noticed.

When it was confirmed that there was no one around, Alaric took out the pocket-sized Orianna from his pocket and placed it on the ground.

"Now take me to the third-floor bathroom," he urgently said to Orianna. "The situation is critical, hurry up, please!"

"Understood, father" Orianna said cheerfully and cast a spell—of course, it was a spell from the Varolan magic. Her puppet instantly emitted a purple magical wave, shooting towards Orianna herself.

After being hit by the magical wave, the shrinking spell effect on Orianna was instantly lifted, and she returned to her normal size.

She then lifted Alaric, who was taller than her, into her arms and moved at high speed in a levitating state.
