134 Chapter 134: Invasion of the Dementors

In recent days, the weather at Hogwarts had been getting worse and worse, with constant strong winds and rain. On the day of the Quidditch match, the situation became even worse.

The sky was filled with thunderous roars, the sound of the wind battering against the castle walls, and the distant snapping of trees in the Forbidden Forest.

Early in the morning, these sounds disturbed people's sleep, but it was still the day of the Quidditch match, and the match proceeded as usual.

Quidditch truly deserved its reputation as the most popular sport in the wizarding world.

Despite the wind and rain, students and staff still poured out to watch the match, running across the lawn toward the Quidditch pitch, heads down to shield against the wind.

Many of them had lost their umbrellas along the way due to the strong gusts of wind.

Even the Ravenclaw students, known for their intelligence, were powerless against Quidditch.

On the way to the pitch, Hermione tried to raise her umbrella repeatedly, but each attempt ended in failure. Behind her, Cho Chang was shivering, her umbrella already completely blown away.

Suddenly, a hand grabbed Cho Chang's shoulder and pulled her aside.

When she turned to look, she was surprised to see the recently elusive Alaric. Alaric gave her a stiff smile, which surprised her.

"I thought you said you wouldn't come?" she asked happily. "Why are you here?"

"Uh, that's because I suddenly wanted to," Alaric explained dryly. "Just felt like I'd been in the lab for too long and wanted to come out and enjoy the sunshine."

Enjoy the sunshine?

Hermione looked up at the sky inexplicably, but it was still filled with dark clouds. A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, almost blinding her.

"Don't listen to his excuses," suddenly, she heard another girl's voice explaining to her, "he's just afraid you'll get wet, so he came out of his shell, the hypocritical little boy."

Hearing this voice, Hermione's smile immediately faltered.

It was Penelope, walking on Alaric's other side, holding a yellow flag in her hand. A black and white badger on the flag paced back and forth restlessly.

Hearing her words, Hermione suddenly realized that no raindrops were falling on her anymore. All the rainwater was being blocked from above, about a foot away from them.

"How about that? Pretty amazing, right?" Penelope said with a tone of pride that made Hermione uncomfortable, then looked ahead again. "Miss Granger! Come over here."

"Yeah, Alaric is indeed powerful and considerate~" Hermione said in a tone she had never imagined herself using before.

There was a bit of tension between the two girls.

Finally, Hermione also came to Alaric's side, looking up at her own head in surprise and asking, "How did you do it? I haven't seen this magic in any books."

"It's just an application of the Shield Charm," Alaric had already noticed that the atmosphere was not right.

As the three girls grew older, he had become increasingly afraid to call all three of them together when there was nothing wrong.

Now that Hermione asked a question, he immediately took the opportunity to change the subject and explained the principle to Hermione in detail.

Hermione and Penelope looked at each other, and there was a silent silence between them, and the four of them walked forward together.

Finally, the other young wizards around them were surprised to find that in this endless rain curtain, there were actually people who could walk all the way without getting wet, even the strong wind couldn't stop them.

Other girls cast jealous glances at the three girls.

"Why isn't it me by his side?"

This was the most common thought among them.

When they reached the Quidditch stands, almost all the young wizards had become soaked.

Near Alaric's seat, Anthony Goldstein used a Fire-Making Charm, and many young wizards crowded around to dry and warm themselves.

Terry even set his own robe on fire, causing a commotion.

Alaric shook his head and snapped his fingers casually. The three girls were surprised to find white steam rising from their clothes and robes, which then dried up.

In the stadium, Madam Hooch had already ordered the players to mount their brooms, but the wind and rain were so loud that everyone could only understand her instructions through lip movements.

Several players were still clueless about what was happening.

Fortunately, her silver whistle was a magical item, otherwise they wouldn't even know when the match started.

The conditions for the match were indeed too harsh.

The young wizards had to take out their folding telescopes, otherwise they couldn't even see the colors of the players' clothes.

Alaric was somewhat speechless. These wizards were much more fanatical than Muggle fans.

After the match began, Alaric noticed that the players' performance was terrible: they were soaked through, shivering with cold, and could hardly see their teammates, let alone the flying balls.

They darted across the field, passing by blurry red and yellow figures one after another. However, they could easily lose track of the game's progress if they weren't careful.

In the howling wind, they couldn't even hear the commentary. The audience was hidden beneath a sea of cloaks and umbrellas deformed by the wind.

Chasers and Seekers were often nearly hit by stray balls because the heavy rain blurred their vision, making it impossible to see the stray balls coming from the other side.

Even Beaters couldn't help them.

As the match went on, it became increasingly difficult to keep the broomsticks flying straight.

The sky grew darker, as if night had decided to come early.

Players often almost collided with each other, and they could hardly tell whether the figures they saw were their own teammates or opponents.

Everyone was soaked, the raindrops were so dense that it was almost impossible to see clearly.

The most troublesome thing was that in such weather, the Golden Snitch was extremely difficult to spot.

Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory had to rely on the brief flashes of light brought by lightning to determine the Snitch's position.

If they couldn't catch the Golden Snitch, who knew how long the match would last.

Finally, Harry found an opportunity. He saw a small golden speck flashing continuously in the rain-soaked air, and he chased after it with all his might.

But just as he was about to catch the golden ball, to his surprise, through another flash of lightning, he saw over a hundred Dementors pouring towards the Quidditch pitch from above Hogwarts.

The cheers of the audience suddenly disappeared, and a familiar, dreadful chill swept in from all directions.

The young wizards in the stands couldn't help but shiver, their smiles gradually fading.

Immediately, they realized that the creatures floating towards them brought screams of terror to the Quidditch pitch.

And as for Harry himself? He had lost consciousness and was falling from the sky.

Seeing this terrifying scene, Hermione looked worriedly at Alaric. "Alaric, let's help them."

Alaric looked at the three girls around him and asked seriously, "Is this what you all think?"

"Absolutely, we can't let the Dementors continue like this," Cho Chang said anxiously.

"After studying for so long, let's consider it as practice," Penelope agreed.

"Alright," Alaric nodded, reminding them sternly, "Remember to let your patronuses follow me."

So, the four of them raised their wands and shouted together.

"Call upon the guardians!"

Dazzling silver light appeared again, enveloping the four of them and the young wizards around them, giving them a little relief.

In full view of everyone, a shining silver dragon soared out from the Ravenclaw stands, followed by a silver eagle, a swan, and an otter.

These patronuses raced through the air, circling around the stands, making all the Dementors retreat, but they stubbornly refused to leave.

Then, the dragon grew angry.

It opened its mouth, and a pale breath swept through the Dementor crowd, burning dozens of them to ashes with their agonizing screams, causing the rest to scatter like they had seen a ghost.

Before Harry hit the ground, a spell caught him, saving him from harm—it was Dumbledore.

Next, he angrily summoned his patronus, a phoenix—joining the guardians led by the dragon, they drove all the Dementors out of Hogwarts together.

Thus, the chaos in the Quidditch pitch was finally resolved.
