37 Harry's 'Detention'!

{Transfiguration Professor's Office, Hogwarts}

{2nd Sep 1991}

{3rd Person POV}

~Tick~~Tick~~Tick~

Harry was nervous as he stared at Professor Minerva who calmly made a cup of tea. He wanted to apologize but the woman in front of him had an oppressive aura so he simply waited for things to calm down. The magical outburst he had was interesting, he couldn't even remember the time he had last gone through something like that.

"Here, drink this. This has a calming drought mixed in it which is a potion that will keep you from wrecking my office." Minerva spoke as she pushed the cup of tea in front of him.

Harry blushed as he accepted the cup and spoke, "I'm sorry about that..." His words fell short as he didn't know how to explain what happened.

Minerva nodded as she helped him, "What you went through was an explosion of accidental magic, admittedly on a larger scale than most but your mana reserves are far larger than any student in scale as well."

~Tak~~Tak~~Tak~

Harry nodded as he looked down at the brown fluid in his cup, he sipped the tea, and other than a slightly bitter taste the forceful sense of calm that returned to him did stop his nervous gittering.

Minerva sighed as Harry finally calmed down and the noise he was making with his legs stopped. She kind of felt a little pity for the poor boy, getting to know the story about his family on the front page of a newspaper would not be a good story.

"I can understand your confusion. To get to know more about what happened to your family this way justifies your anger. I was going to talk to you about it soon but I wanted you to settle in first." Minerva sighed, she looked at Harry's and noticed she had his undivided attention.

"I taught your Mother and Father, they were some of the finest students that I taught in my tenure as a Transfiguration Professor. Your Father, although a handful was a genius in Transfiguration, and although your Mother was a dab hand at it as well, her focus was more on Charms." Minerva spoke and saw that Harry had a small smile on his face, his tense shoulders had eased.

"So if you had any questions I could answer them for you." Minerva offered and Harry almost jumped at the chance to ask questions. His origin had always been the biggest mystery to him, having grown up without one, family was the most important thing to him. And it was this exact fact that caused him to change his question at the last possible moment.

"The newspaper talked a lot about Rigel Black and it mentioned Parselmouth being hereditary?..." Harry started but he left the question remain open-ended. Seeing the reaction of the whole school he didn't want to reveal that he was a Parselmouth as well. But the need to know if he had a close relative in this new unknown world was clawing at him.

"Rigel?" Minerva was surprised at the turn this conversation took but her face did contort a little after she thought about what she had read.

'Those idiots at The Daily Prophet would push him more to the conservative side.' Minerva's focus was on abolishing the Hogwarts education bill and for that, she needed Rigel's votes, especially since he now might hold more votes than before.

"No, don't buy into the ramblings of those idiots at The Daily Prophet. Yes, Parselmouth is a Hereditary trait but he isn't a Dark Lord that the papers claim to be..." She vented before she calmed down and elaborated. "I was the first one to meet Rigel just like Hagrid came to meet you. Rigel was living in a muggle orphanage and he knew nothing about the magical world. A second-year Slytherin student is way more likely to be the next Dark Lord than him."

Minerva huffed as she mumbled a few more choice words that Harry didn't listen to, his thoughts were now focused on the information that she had revealed. Rigel Black was an orphan just like him and they might have shared much more in their parentage since the ability to talk to snakes was incredibly rare in the magical world.

With more questions about their connection than answers, Harry nodded absentmindedly at Prof. McGonagall. The older witch smiled at him and offered, "If you have any more questions then you can come to my office anytime. Right now let's go, the rest of the students would already be here."

Harry nodded as he noticed that he could hear several mumblings coming from outside her office. Prof. McGonagall gave him a small piece of paper that was titled Timetable for the first years as she spoke, "Let's go or we're going to be late."

"Okay, Thank you, Prof. McGonagall." Harry thanked the older witch as he genuinely smiled at her as he put the timetable in his robes. Both of them walked to the door and when Harry opened it, he noticed that almost all of the students from Gryffindor and Slytherin were there.

He bowed his head as he swiftly made his way to the back row where Ron was madly waving his hand.

"You okay dude? Professor Pomphrey distributed our class schedule, I grabbed an extra for you and your bag." Ron spoke as he extended another timetable toward him and pointed to his bag that was lying on the table.

"Thanks," Harry spoke as he took the second timetable and put it into his robe pockets as well. He sat down on the table and looked at Prof. McGonagall who was looking at the time.

His eyes whirled around to the other end of the room as he stared at Rigel who was sitting with a pretty blond witch. He looked away seconds later as Ron started asking about what happened. As he gave him a short version of what happened his thought couldn't help but plan how he would talk to Rigel without being ostracized by his newly found friends.
