10 Classes- Potions

After a week, my impression on Hogwarts professors is filled with many ups and downs.

They only teach us the things that most of the witch and wizards already know and have thought in their families. They mainly focus on muggles, who don't know anything about the wizarding community.

History of Magic: The professor of this subject, Cuthbert Binns, taught at Hogwarts for many years before his death, and even after his death he continued to teach at Hogwarts as a ghost,

History of Magic is a core class and subject taught at Hogwarts and taught from the first year to the fifth year

"My subject is History of Magic. I deal with facts, not myths, and legends." Professor Binns said in first class. He also doesn't bother with the students unless they disturb the class, so it allows me to read many numbers of books which I snuck inside my magical pocket.

Astronomy is taught by Professor Aurora Sinistra, and classes take place in the Astronomy Tower, the tallest tower in Hogwarts.

It is the only field of study at Hogwarts, that has a direct equivalent in the Muggle world Astronomy. Lessons involve observations of the night skies with telescopes.

First-year Charms lesson, taught by Professor Filius Flitwick who is also head of the house Ravenclaw. Charms is a core class, Even though mastering the science of charm-work is essential to performing the greater part of the magic.

Charms are the type of spells concerned with giving-object-new and unexpected properties, and hence this class mainly consists of learning those sorts of spells.

Defence Against the Dark Arts taught by Quirinus Quirrell. He doesn't look scary, rather timid, even though he is possessed by Voldemort.

Defence Against the Dark Arts, commonly shortened to D.A.D.A., is the class that teaches students defensive techniques to defend against the Dark Arts and to be protected from dark creatures

Quirinus Quirrell taught us mainly theoretical knowledge, his practical aspect was severely hampered by his timid and stuttering nature, leading him unable to teach properly, which caused many students to consider his classes to be a joke, and failed to take him seriously.

Potions lessons are taught by Severus Snape, who also is head of Slytherin house.

Potions lessons took place down in one of the dungeons. It was colder here than up in the main castle and it's been quite creepy with the pickled animals floating in glass jars all around the walls.

Potions are described as the art of creating mixtures with magical effects. It requires the correct mixing and stirring of ingredients at the right times and temperatures.

The first-year Slytherin and Gryffindors have potions class together.

I also saw Snape bullying Harry on the first day, it was exactly like I imagined.

Snape, started the class by taking the attendance, and, he paused at Harry's name. "Ah, Yes," he said softly, "Harry Potter. Our new -- celebrity.".

"You are here to learn the subtle science and exact art of potion-making," he began. He spoke like a whisper, "As there is little foolish wand-waving here, many of you will hardly believe this is magic. I don't expect you will understand the beauty of the softly simmering cauldron with Its shimmering fumes, the delicate power of liquids that creep through human veins, bewitching the mind, ensnaring the senses... I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even stopper death -- if you aren't as big a bunch of dunderheads as I usually have to teach." Snape had the gift of keeping a class silent without effort.

More silence followed this little speech.

"Potter!" Said Snape suddenly. "What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?"

Harry glanced at Ron, who looked as stumped as he was; Hermione's hand had shot into the air.

"I don't know, sir," said Harry.

Snape's lips curled into a sneer. "Tut, tut -- fame clearly isn't everything."

"Let's try again. Potter, where would you look if I told you to find me a bezoar?"

"I don't know, sir," said Harry. Hermione stretched her hand as high into the air as it would go without her leaving her seat.

"What is the difference, Potter, between monkshood and wolfsbane?"

At this, Hermione stood up, her hand stretching toward the dungeon ceiling.

"I don't know," said Harry quietly. "I think Hermione does, though, why don't you try her?"

A few people laughed; Snape, however, was not pleased.

"Sit down," he snapped at Hermione. "And a point will be taken from Gryffindor House for your cheek, Potter."

"Sir" I raised my hand "can I answer your question?" I politely asked.

Maybe it's because I'm from Slytherin, so Snape just asked me to answer the question that he asked for the potter.

"For the first question, asphodel and wormwood make a sleeping potion so powerful it is known as The Draught of Living Death".

"For the second question, A bezoar is a stone taken from the stomach of a goat and it will save you from most poisons. "

"As for the last one, monkshood and wolfsbane, they are the same plant, which also goes by the name of aconite," I mentioned the answer.

Snape looked at my face as if he was finding something and roared "Well? Why aren't you all copying that down?"

"Ten points for Slytherins answering the questions correctly" Snape supports Slytherin, so he throws the point for every achievement.

Even though I wanted to stay in the shadows, but I had taken a calculated risk in answering snape's questions. Since I learned Snape will give special lessons for outstanding students, I wanted to impress Snape and to get into special lessons from him.

Most books at my home are related to herbology, so I can say I have advanced proficiency in handling through the herbs. Though I am confident in handling the herbs, I am not confident in making the potions, I need a teacher to teach me in mixing and stirring ingredients at the right times and temperatures.

It will take a long time if I learn by myself experimenting, so I rather apprentice myself under snape.

Snape is one of the best potion masters in the Wizarding World, even Voldemort trusts him to brew the potions. So if I need to improve my potioning skill I have to learn from him directly.

In the movie and novels, it mentioned that Snape will look through Harry's memories.

What would happen if he did the same to me. With my paranoia, I can not allow it for the chances.

I will take some precaution and I know his exact weakness, his infatuation over lily potter, and his school bullies James potter and Sirius black.

If he ever tries to enter my mind, all he will ever see is James and Sirius are banging his crush lily, and lily moaning for more, which will make him cough up blood. And with the traps placed in my mind will be active, it will either trap him when caught off guard. So I can influence him staying loyal to me, if I cannot influence him, I can at least make him a vegetable.

It's all big if I hope Snape doesn't read my mind, he is a really important character on both sides, and I don't want to kill him.

"Sigh" Thinking about all the possibilities made me mentally exhausted.

Snape just wrote instructions on the board and simply asked us to form a pair and follow the steps mentioned on the board.

Since I am a deliberate loner, I was the only one without a partner on the Slytherin side,

When I looked over at Hermione, she stood alone among Gryffindors, " want a partner?" I asked her.

"Hermione Granger" she introduced herself.

"Jason Bones" we proceeded to follow instructions mentioned on the board.

"I read entire first-year books, there wasn't any mention of aconite, how do you know all that" Hermione questioned me.

" Haha you won't find it in academic books, I only find it in my family's collections" I explained the rarity of the book collection to her.

"It's not fair. How could you keep such books to yourself selfishly?" Hermione argued.

She started to get on my nerves, with her bossy attitude.

"World is never fair to anyone ms.granger. You need to learn to live in it as it is." I just started to preach to her about how the wizarding world works. I spew out some bull shit at her.

" How about I lend you some books from my family's private collections?" I baited her into a proposition.

Suddenly Snape shouted "Idiot boy!", and he used his wand to clear the split potions.

"I suppose you added the porcupine quills before taking the cauldron off the fire?"

Neville had somehow managed to melt his partner Seamus's cauldron, and their potion was seeping across the stone floor, burning holes in people's shoes. Within seconds, the whole class was standing on their stools

"Take him up to the hospital wing," Snape spat at Seamus. Then he rounded on Harry and Ron, who had worked next to Neville.

"You -- Potter -- why didn't you tell him not to add the quills? Though he'd make you look good if he got it wrong, did you? That's another point you've lost for Gryffindor."Snape shouted at Harry.

"Ms. granger, we can talk about books more if you want. I will be available in the library" I offered her and went to hand over my potion since the class was over.
