41 Chapter 41: “Lord Arcturus Black”

May 1985

In the second week of May, Harry Potter faced a significant moment in his life. After six months of rigorous training, both physically and magically, Harry had grown impressively strong.

He was now capable of handling opponents twice his age in both magical duels and hand-to-hand combat with ease. His time spent at the dojo and his steadfast commitment to his magical studies had shaped him into a young wizard of notable skill and power.

During this period of growth and learning, Sirius Black brought an interesting offer to Harry's attention. "Harry, my grandfather, Lord Arcturus Black, would like to meet you. How do you feel about that?"

Harry wasn't surprised by the suggestion. He had previously given Sirius the okay to tell Lord Black about him. Harry understood that the clever patriarch of the Black family would figure out his existence soon enough, especially since Sirius, who lived with Lord Black, was visibly happier and no longer consumed by his search for Harry.

Harry's decision to let Sirius share the news of his survival with Lord Black was driven by a strategic thought process. He recognized that their shared skepticism of Dumbledore's actions would ensure his secret remained safe.

More so, Harry was curious about learning more about the wizarding world and the Ministry of Magic from someone as knowledgeable as Lord Black. He also harbored a hope that Lord Black, being Sirius's grandfather and also Harry's great-granduncle through his great-grandmother Dorea Potter nee Black, would genuinely care for his well-being.

Harry had experienced betrayal from his own parents, but he held onto the hope that Lord Black, who was respected by Harry's own grandfather, would prove to be a trustworthy and wise figure in his life.

"He wants to meet you, Harry. But he's clear that it's at your convenience," Sirius added.

The prospect of meeting the patriarch of the Black family was daunting but seeing the chance to meet the feared wizard, Harry decided to go ahead with the meeting.

On the appointed day, Sirius used side-along Apparition to bring Harry to the impressive Black family castle. Hidden away on a secluded island and surrounded by thick forest, the castle stood as a grand testament to the Black family's legacy, far more imposing than the Potter manor Harry remembered.

Upon arrival, they were welcomed by Vardey, a house-elf who served the Black family. Dressed more like a butler than a typical house-elf, Vardey's refined manner added to the grandeur of the Black family estate. Vardey's presence and mannerisms further elevated Harry's impression of Arcturus Black.

"Master Black is waiting for you. Please follow me," Vardey instructed, guiding them through the castle's luxurious interiors.

As Harry and Sirius followed Vardey deeper into the castle, Harry was struck by its splendor. The hallways were filled with artifacts and portraits, telling the story of the Black family's prominence and magic. Unlike the animated portraits at Hogwarts, these were still, yet Harry knew the Black family should also have their share of magical portraits elsewhere in the castle.

When they reached Lord Black's study, Harry felt a mix of disappointment and curiosity. He had hoped to explore more of the castle, intrigued by its secrets and history. But the meeting with Lord Black quickly drew his focus.

Lord Arcturus Black, an elderly man with an aura of wisdom and strength, welcomed Harry warmly. "Welcome, Mr. Potter, to the Black Castle. I am pleased to finally meet you."

Harry, slightly awed by the presence of his great-granduncle, replied, "Thank you for having me, Lord Black. It's an honor to meet you."

As they sat in the study, Lord Black's keen eyes surveyed Harry, noting the young wizard's evident magical strength and physical prowess.

"You've developed a commendable physique, Harry," Lord Black observed a note of respect in his voice. "And I see you've influenced Sirius in this regard as well. It's heartening. In my younger days, we held physical prowess in high esteem, alongside magical capability. It's unfortunate that many in the wizarding world today overlook the importance of physical strength, especially in the context of battles."

Harry humbly replied, "I felt it was necessary to overcome the challenges I faced. Being active and training regularly has become an integral part of my life. The benefits were too significant to ignore."

Lord Black nodded approvingly. "Good! Your determination and resilience remind me of your great-grandparents, Charlus and Dorea. You share Charlus's pursuit of strength and Dorea's bravery. They would have been immensely proud to see the kind of person you're becoming."

Harry's face brightened when he heard about his great-grandmother. "My grandpa always told me such incredible stories about them. They were so fantastical I sometimes thought they were just making them up. I really wish I'd had the chance to meet them."

Lord Black, reminiscing, allowed a soft smile to grace his features. "Your grandparents truly were remarkable people. Your grandfather had a fearsome reputation; few dared to cross him. And your grandmother, she was exceptionally skilled in Potions, a talent neither I nor Charlus possessed. She bravely fought for her love for Charlus, despite our family's dark reputation and the Potters' noble standing. Their story is one for the ages. I'll share more with you next time."

The topics of their discussion varied, with Lord Black imparting his vast knowledge of the wizarding world and expressing his viewpoints, especially concerning Dumbledore's actions and decisions.

As their meeting drew to a close, Lord Black extended a heartfelt offer of support. "You're part of the Black family, Harry. Our home is open to you whenever you need refuge or assistance."

Feeling a deep sense of safety and belonging that he hadn't experienced in a long time, Harry promised to visit again. The conversation with Lord Black had been enlightening and comforting, offering him insights into his heritage and a respite from his worries. With Lord Black's support, he felt less troubled by the thought of facing Dumbledore's schemes.

"I'll definitely come back, Grandpa Black," Harry promised with newfound affection as they said their goodbyes. Their bond had deepened significantly during this meeting.

Upon leaving, Sirius, who had respectfully allowed Harry to lead the conversation, expressed his pride. "You made quite the impression, Harry. I'm proud of you."

A smile graced Harry's lips, reflecting his growing sense of kinship. "Thank you, Sirius. It feels good to connect with my roots."

As they departed from the Black Castle, Harry realized the significance of this newfound connection. The visit to the Black Castle had not only revealed more about his family history but also provided a sanctuary where he felt supported. It was a pivotal moment in Harry's journey, one that brought peace to his often-turbulent life.
