'Ignore their comments and run like Hisoka is chasing after you with a creepy grin on his face.' Lex gave himself his normal pep talk.

He was used to encountering such people in his past life. Lex mastered the dao of ignoring people just to avoid talking to most of society.

His life was already miserable and such people added a poisonous cherry on top of the mud cake known as life.

"Hey, that's the guy!" one of the women shouted.

All of them ganged together and ran towards Lex. The latter, knowing that he had been discovered, took out his phone.

Lex dialed 911, not knowing whether it was the correct number, and showed it to the dashing ladies.

"If you take one more step, I will report you for physical abuse." Lex threatened. That was his plan B for such situations and most of the time, it worked.

The only time it didn't work was when a high-level activist boss decided to show up.

"Tch, using such cowardly and fake methods to stop us from getting justice." One woman spat on the road.

"Did you ever think that I might have gotten myself into a fake charge? I am not rich so I didn't bribe the police either. Think about it with some rationality." Lex countered.

He couldn't stand still and hear the next barrage of comments that he would have been showered with. It was better to risk answering back than hearing their comments until his ears bled.

"That…" the woman paused. Her reaction made the others pause as well. Looks like Lex had directly shot at the leader. "He might be saying the truth."

'Looks like I have encountered a more tame and rational bunch.' Lex thought with an inward sigh of relief.

"Look, I am trying to go to the library and get some reading material. Getting a job is the only thing I can do to prevent myself from suicide. You surely wouldn't want to be blamed for indirect murder?" Lex questioned.

"No…"

"Definitely not…"

"I am six months pregnant. What am I even doing here?"

The women talked amongst themselves before apologizing to Lex. They turned back and decided to dive deeper into his case.

Honestly, such activists butted in others life for no apparent reason. Since Lex was labeled as a gang member, most people didn't want him near their houses.

Being poor also forced him to get in a somewhat poor region of the city.

"One problem solved." Lex sighed. He finally realized why Elfie praised his trickery in her own weird way.

'Elfie, do these stats really matter though?'

[ Not really. You will easily grow stronger once you manage to unlock your abilities and these won't matter then.]

'Then why did you put me through that?'

[ One, I wanted to do some low-level roasting, and two, it will help you increase your word count once you decide to publish your life story to earn some money. ]

'That's… genius.'

[ I know. Let's go to the public library now. ]

Twenty minutes later, Lex was standing in front of the public library.

'Well, there's no choice except going in. I don't trust the internet to provide me with a hundred percent correct information.' Lex sighed.

He walked right past the doors and entered the library. He awkwardly made his way to the history section and started searching for the perfect book to read.

Seeing so many books gathered together in one place overwhelmed Lex. He couldn't be considered as one of the smartest people his age but Lex was proud to say that he made it into the top ten spot in his year.

He slowly began reading the names of the books and did a double take.

One book was titled as 'Gaia, A World History'(holograph version available for a price). Another was titled 'Beginner's Guide to learning Gaia's anatomy(Gaia as the world. I am not referring to the goddess).

The brackets were what made Lex doubt the credibility of these books.

[ Just touch the bookshelf and leave the rest to me. I will filter most of the information and tell you the necessary parts only. ] Elfie suggested.

Lex did as told and put his hand on the bookshelf. He waited for a few minutes before all of a sudden, information started entering his mind.

Around two hundred years ago, Gaia was a planet with different races living on it calmly.

None of the races, except elves, had any magic powers or abilities. But one day, the ground shook violently and a wave of energy swept over the entire planet.

This energy was released due to the unsealing of a sealed section of the Earth's core. It was known as Elemental Energy, EE for short.

EE made all species evolve and soon enough, all of them gained abilities and powers. It was the energy responsible for unlocking the abilities of a person.

Some abilities, however, were too low-level to be affected by EE and that was how ability-less beings came into existence.

[ Mhm, that's all for now. A whole lot of these books are just full of promotional material and ads. It's like you are viewing a pirate site. ]

'Should I leave now?' Lex questioned.

[ Wait for a few more minutes. I will scan some more books and we can leave. ]

'As you say.'

Though the air conditioning was tempting him to stay, Lex knew that sooner or later, someone would recognize him and make a whole scene.

That's why it was smart for him to leave.

Once Elfie had finished her analysis, they left the library and started walking back toward Lex's home.

'Tell me what else you learned.'

[ Think of EE as mana. Mana is required by all creatures to use magic but in this case, EE is the thing that enables an ability. People are naturally born with EE and once they have reached five years of age, the EE inside their body tries to unseal their ability.

The more EE is required for an ability to unlock, the stronger the ability. In most scenarios, some EE is left after the ability is unlocked. That small amount of EE regenerates to its original amount and remains dormant in a body.]

'Which means that EE isn't required to use abilities.'

[ Indeed. Every living being has EE but sometimes, the EE required to unlock an ability is higher than the total EE present in a body. Hence, such people are left powerless because their bodies either have a low amount of EE or don't have any EE at all. ]

'So that is why my ability is locked.'

It was almost nighttime when Lex reached his house.

Lex entered his house and immediately crashed down on the bed. Though he was hungry, he was feeling way too lazy to cook something.

The only option left was instant noodles but to cook that, he would need to boil water.

'Ugh, I have debt and I have to find a way to unlock my ability at the same time.'

Lex considered his options and concluded that becoming a p*rnstar was the worst job for him.

"Fuu…" sighing, he opened his phone.

He researched some things on the industry and found out that ninety-five percent of the people working there didn't have any abilities.

Shaking his head, Lex decided to read some web novels to make himself feel better. However, he suddenly stopped scrolling when a new notification was on the top of his phone screen.

When he saw the notification, Lex felt like jumping in joy.

"Are you broke and have a huge debt? Are you one of those people who don't have any abilities, working skills, and qualifications? Worry not, LinkedOut is here to help you get a job!" Lex read with enthusiasm. "Heck yeah. This was what I wanted."

Though the notification dealt some emotional damage to Lex, he had to admit that all of the above stated things were true.

It was his best bet at finding a job to pay of his debt. He put the p*rnstar option as his last resort, a smart thing on his part.

Lex temporarily forgot about his growling stomach and started searching for a job.
